Ultimate Seat.. ( I Finally Did It !!)
Mike G in SC replied to bwk's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Sorry to hear the Ultimate did not work for you. Have only heard of a few not liking the passenger seat, not many not liking the front. They do say it moves you up on the tank but I am 5'9" and the bike fits me fine. As this is the only seat I have known on my RSTD, I have no comparison. I did put a Mustang set on my old Roadstar,,, for 100 miles, took it back to the dealer. (Had a Mustang on a used Strat I bought. Nice looking but also hard.) I bought a used Russell Daylong for my RSV but I did not know the first owner was 6'3" till later, and they are custom made per rider specs. I could not get my feet on the ground cause it has "wings" for your hips. Russell would not modify it for me and I sold it to a 6'5" friend. He loves it. But, that is pretty big money. See what their fitment guarantee is. Great quality. I don't know if they make them for RSTD(?). Most like the Airhawk. I had one on my Roadstar, but as my legs are shorter, when I put my foot down, felt like I was shifting off the bike. Sold it too so someone who loves it 8 years later. Now, I have a Harley Davidson waffle pad I use on the RSV to alternate on long rides. It gives your butt more air. First time I used it I rode 950 miles straight in 18 hours. Don't know if it's an answer. Good luck. Oh, there is a seat mod outfit in Florida some here have touted, forgot their name. Might chase that. I also used one in NC called Mean City Cycles. That is all they do. -
It's a Dyson. That means it will suck or blow. But, as tempting as it looks,,, here is the piece de resistance. It's a hand washer in a restaurant in Ft.Collins CO (Serious Texas BBQ). Stick your HANDS in and it swirls warm water & soap spray around then,,, till it stops,,,,, and you want it again and again,,,, Almost left a tip for this little tart.

Ultimate Seat.. ( I Finally Did It !!)
Mike G in SC replied to bwk's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
The previous owner put an Ultimate set on my 2006 RSTD. So, been riding on it since 2007. Got 102K miles on it. THE BEST! -
Thanks, "I'LL BE BACK".

Cut/paste: Most credit scores – including the FICO score and the latest version of the VantageScore – operate within the range of 301 to 850. Within that range, there are different categories, from bad to excellent. •Excellent Credit: 781 – 850 •Good Credit: 661-780 •Fair Credit: 601-660 •Poor Credit: 501-600 •Bad Credit: below 500 And the top scales: There are many different credit scores available to lenders, and they each develop their own credit score range. Why is that important? Because if you get your credit score, you need to know the credit score range you are looking at so you understand where your number fits in. The Credit Score Range Using Various Scoring Models: •FICO Score range: 300-850 •VantageScore 3.0 range: 300–850 •VantageScore scale (versions 1.0 and 2.0): 501–990 •PLUS Score: 330-830 •TransRisk Score: 100-900 •Equifax Credit Score: 280–850

If you get down below Asheville, do not take Hwy 215 North off the Parkway. (Just above the Devil's Courthouse) We took it from Waynesville area to the Parkway and found it is under construction and about 14 miles of crush gravel and twists. A real butt bitter. But was fine south of the Parkway.

Frog Toggs, anyone go t'em? anything better?
Mike G in SC replied to Great White's topic in Watering Hole
I've had a couple of sets. They pack light & compact. Breath good on hot days. BUT,,, only last a season or two at most. Tend to tear easy and don't age well. I then spent the hundred and got First Gear. You get what you pay for. -
You should wave.

Besides crown of the road to left,,,, was a good article a couple of years ago that pointed out that on American roads you are traveling more miles by leaning left that right (not political). Think about radius of turns and,, it makes sense. And opposite is true in Great Britton.
-
If you can, take Hwy 160 from Poplar Bluff over. Rode it a few years ago and it is a ton of fun. Hundred miles of great turns and whoop-ti-doos. Not quite like mountains but zoom zoom. There was a Days Inn in Doniphan that was okay.

That is the best price I have ever seen. Seems like I bought years ago for $116, seen at $218. I think Buddy Rich made replacements, but are a little thicker and you would have to replace the tiny bolts with longer ones. (I got them a few years ago and are still in my parts.) They are great for winter and light rain. And in summer, so-so, but can channel some heat away. Question, what did they bill for shipping/handling and/or tax? Was $127.04 delivered? Oh,,, Just re-read it, $25 for ship.... Still beats Stadium Yamaha in Dallas, who is usually good.

SO! What are the AGES of the DRIVERS of VR.Org?
Mike G in SC replied to Zfrebird4's topic in Watering Hole
I opened this thread a minute ago, looking at page one. So I was stunned to see my own entry that said I was 59 1/2! Cause I am now 65! Hey, this thread has been around a while. -
2007 Yamaha Royal Star Midnight Venture
Mike G in SC replied to Beach Bum's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
On the front brake lever (and clutch), see if the hand levers pivot points need some WD40 care. Sometimes mine will get a little stiff, especially if I have ridden in the rain. Just keep a rag on it when you do. I have a 29" inseam and had the front of my RSV lowered. The rear was lowered but after doing the front, I went put the stock links back on the rear. I did have the seat modified (cut down) first, and within months the seat lost all comfort. If height adjustment is needed, suggest lowering the front 1"- 1.25". Going the full 1.5" may bottom out on the fender in pot holes. -
Saw about 50 Ventures this weekend in Louisville, Ky. Was at a STAR Touring South East BBQ with about 200-250 members. Even one that was all purple.

The "VW" car tire may be: Nexen SB802 Tire 165/80R15 I ordered one from Walmart a few months ago for $56 but changed my mind and stayed MC tire. A friend has one on his 2011 RSV, loves it.

I used to ride Avons, on various bikes. I did notice that once worn down, the last bit wears quick. Seems like the last bit of rubber before the nylon had a lighter gray than the tread rubber, as noted above. I normally got about 15K miles on a rear Avon. I did have one Venom front replaced by the dealer for a micro hole at the bead. I get over 20K on MCII rear. Just got 26K on my E3 front, had plenty of tread but was going on a 2500 mile road trip.

Dunlop E-3 Front Tire Rotation/Tread Question???
Mike G in SC replied to Zzyzx's topic in Watering Hole
Tire is mounted correct,,, if that is the left side. My RSV with a 3 week old tire,,, but already has over 3K miles from a SC to Maine lobster run. I got 26K miles on the last one, and it had a lot of tread left. Sorry bout the sidewise pic, could not get it to go away..... -
Crash Bar Wind Deflector
Mike G in SC replied to jjven68's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I have them on my RSTD and my Venture. Stadium Yamaha is cheaper. $177.41 But my local dealer will match their price on Yamaha parts if I bring a printout or show it on my smart phone. See; http://www.stadiumyamaha.com/oemcatalogs/p/yamaha_motorcycle_cruiser_2009_royal_star_venture/star_accessories-windshields/4ff76ce7f870020f741519db/tinted-lower-wind-vents -
If it turns out to be true..........would ya???
Mike G in SC replied to BigLenny's topic in Watering Hole
I usually let the first owner take the hit and I buy a year and a half old bike. Did that on my last few bikes. So, if they come out with a V4, that is probably what I'd do. But, I think they are going to go V-twin. I had a Strat, not for me. Liked my Road Star but would not go back. I rode a Indian Roadmaster last week. Liked the bike but not the V-twin. Hated the gears. I'm spoiled for the RSTD and RSV gears. So, was looking at other bikes on a road trip this week, I would go with a Goldwing or Goldwing trike (I'm getting older). I'm not going back to a V-twin. -
New tires installed and lowering links gone.
Mike G in SC replied to YamahaLarry's topic in Watering Hole
Larry, I put my stock links back on my RSV also. But I left the caliper relocation bracket,,,, cause you can quickly inspect or service the rear brake pads in seconds. So, unless you plan to sell the lowering kit, it's kind of handy. -
mounting a driver cup holder
Mike G in SC replied to mike042's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The Chubby Cup Jr. has a superior mount on the handle bar and is great quality. Pricey at $60 from the manufacturer but show price was about $45. http://www.chubbycups.com/Chubby-Cup-Jr-Rigid-Drink-Holder.html -
I'm doing a 2500 mile round trip with Jerry Mefford next week (SC to NY to ME to PA to SC). So, just checked my current tire mileage on my RSV. Front is a stock size Dunlop E3, now with 26072 miles. And still enough tread for the trip. Might not be great on the Dragon but fine for interstates. Rear is a Michelin Commander II with about 14,750 miles. (My last MC II got 22k miles and was still in spec for PA).

Wow, what a man. If I make it to 91,,, I'll be proud to just keep my face out of my Jello.
