  7. Only thing ever intimidating about my 89 was 1st time I rode her was how big the fairing seemed to be! Now just seems second nature. What a great bike-- I'd take her anywhere
  8. As for me and mine, sorry that it gives you the headache, but it seems like a good trade off to keep every driver out there that could posssibly drive me and the bike into the ground like a tent stake just a little more alert for everyones sake!

  14. Is there already a full list of what us newbees might consider problems?, when they are probably common issues for these bikes? (1st gens) It sure would keep me from aging so fast! Almost everything I've found on my 89 VR is a common issue! Thanks if someone could post it:bang head: My head is getting sore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. So cold here that I think my garage door is swearing at me in the morning! I've had this issue with the coolant leak on my 89 VR and it leaked again:bang head:, this time I found 2 leak points first 1 was at the drain and the other is at the base of the plastic elbow going into water pump. Hopefully both easily fixed( in warmer weather)! We'll see soon enough!!!!!! Everyone stay warm and be very careful outside:snow:
  18. Hi, I'd been stationed in Beaumont since hurricane Ike, would have been glad to, but I just got sent home at christmas. I still have contacts there, maybe one could go look at it and report back? What kind of bike you looking at?
  19. Yea these guys are right, get in touch with muffinman/jeff. I only wish I lived closer to the man with the Midas touch.
  20. I changed mine with the carbs still on the bike. It can be done, the back one is easy- the front one is a little trickey! Be sure to check the wire on the right side of the motor, up under the side, kinda hard to see unless your looking for it. It may unhook taking them of. It controls your fan motor/ sensor.
  21. What was the name of the local auto parts store you got them at?????
  22. Did anybody else used to pop tar bubbles on a hot summer day:scorched: right out in the middle of a country road? We lived in the country!!!!!!!!In the winter all the neighbor buddies would build a snowman on the road and it would be there all day!! Thats how much traffic we didn't have around our neck of the woods.Remember playing cards in the spokes to sound cool. Tons of great times:farmer:
  23. This past spring I rode my 89 VR to ST. Louis and back, while out ther had an issue with coolant leaking overnight. Attributed to different metal types cooling at different rates. Temps here have been pretty cold, but warmed up some today. So when I was in the garage today there it was again that puddle of coolant!!!! , without even having the engine hot!!!??? I rode that thing all summer with no problems. Help!!!!!!!
