saddle bags same RSV & RS Custome Cruiser?
dharnie replied to dharnie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
ebay bags came off a 2006 or 2007 Tour Deluxe & my wrecked RSV is a 2007. my 2001 is fine - never down just abused by previous owner by never riding it, letting it sit outside under cover and moisture on the chome left its nasty calling card. -
Will be installing switch this weekend to be able to turn off the lights. Too much drain on battery with key on & engine not running and my battery is only 2 weeks new!

saddle bags same RSV & RS Custome Cruiser?
dharnie replied to dharnie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes Tour Deluxe - don't know where I got the custom cruiser?? so many different names but similar. Today I did find out that the bags are the same also - dealer was no help but printed out schematics from bikebandit.com and came to same conclusion which verified what I already suspected because of what I could glean from yamaha web site pics & elsewhere. BTW - I just won ebay auction for 2 RS Tour Deluxe bags for my RSV - got a great deal! Guys, Thanks for assist! -
I have an 07 RSV with 1 busted & 1 rashed/cracked saddle bags. I have opportunity to get new/used bags that are off a Royal Star Custom Cruiser. I checked the "bandit" site and the stock #s are off a didget or so from ea other - but they look identical and have the same 9.3 cu in capacity. I think that they are the same bags. Anyone know if these are identical/same (except for lettering of model name on the hinge plate)?

blues lover - they are no special brand - all 4 lights are 55watts each. heck even if 2 were monted it still gives plenty of visability both ways!

fib 78 - just to let you know Barney Fife gave me a hi-by. he was on his HD patrol bike with a mask over his mouth/chin since it was in 30+ degrees in AM and as he passed me he knodded his head & thumb up and Of course I was cool and acknowledged him back. He had to see the lights!

trunk rack cracking lid?
dharnie replied to dharnie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
On my Sabre its simply decoration. I see some pics of a black mat on the surface of the lid the same size as rack and legs going through this mat. On other pics I see no mat or no supports going from front to rear leg. if support is on inside of lid I fail to see how that supports a small load on the rack. anyway the most I would consider using it for is a leather bag with some light clothing or as such. otherwise I think the rack adds class but would rather do without if it ruins the lid. but as is mentioned here the yamaha item is ok but beware of after-market. thanks for replies! -
Those are both great ideas thanks for the extra effort to post your pics! much appreciated! robertbob - how did you fasten to bib? wuzfuz - how did you fasten to shield?

Now that I have my RSV for almost 3 weeks and about 150 miles on her, I know nothing about the equipment to be able to use the intercom system. The after-market unit that we used on my Sabre worked OK under 25mph. But really is totally useless unless my wife & I rode a tandem bicycle!

Anyone have any problems with cracking of the plastic of the lid after instaklling the chrome metal rack? Reason I ask is the after-market trunk box I bought for my Sabre developed cracks where each hole was drilled into the lid and this Yamaha box appears to be same material - (whether it is or not not sure). I would rather have a box with no cracks and no rack than a box with cracks and a rack!

have the lowest ones pointing low like fog lights. the upper ones come close in the middle just under headlight. use the garage wall for adjustments. gives me extra lighting BUT idea was to BE seen which is excellent results ran wires hidden along brake lines and found a switched wire under tank. no need to remove fairing comes on with headlights - did not use supplied optional switch. * also I used one of the inline fuses supplied with each set of lights and tied all 4 lights to it

Honda dlr wants $220 for set OEM Dunlops installed on/off VT1100 Sabre - and can wait & drive it home. Yamaha dlr is running a "special" $5/wheel bal + $100 labor (because they drop the bags, + cost of whatever tires one wants!! Plan on spending 1/2 day with him - if he can get to it right away! I have been riding on & off over 40 years and thank God have had only 1 flat on the rear tube-type tire in a 650 BSA traveling about 65 mph. I was very surprised how controllable the situation was! I did not panic and simply coasted the bike to a stop onto the paved shoulder. I was even able to drive it slowly from an off ramp onto a side road. Found a small shop owner who patched it for $15! (Of course that was back in the 70s!)

Since bar bag cannot be used, any 2nd gen owner ever use the dashboard for small items like eye glasses, cell phones, smokes, gar door opener, toll change, etc? If so pics & description would be appreciated.

need more wind deflection for RSV?
dharnie replied to dharnie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
put 100 mi on my RSV since I got it 2 weeks ago. temp was 38 this am. wanted to try my RSV for 1st time commuting. I put on my leather chaps, leather jacket, insulated gloves & helmet (of course) and dr0ve 30 min on freeway at 70 mph. Loved every minute of it! It was very cold but I was NOT cold. I was not froze with numb fingers as I would have been on my VT Honda with only a shield. It's a keeper and the V twin - as much as I love the 2004 Sabre - will go on the auction block this spring. My red 2001 RSV will take its place in my garage! I Would still like to block/stop/divert that unwanted tunnel of wind streaming between the upper/lower cowlings though! -
I saw those too - really like em - wonder where to get em?

Paid $92 shipped to my front door at JC Whitney.

Front lighting on a budget. I like other drivers to see me at night and day! They are not the RSV classic look and add nothing to value of bike. I spent only $35 on these from WalMart. Mounted on front side reflector brackets (removed reflectors) and fork shield brackets.

need more wind deflection for RSV?
dharnie replied to dharnie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I ran across these in my search. The extra air is coming from between the forks the best that I can tell. -
I only put about 20 miles on my 01 RSV since I got it 2 weeks ago. All write-ups talked about the "bubble of air" protection but never mentioned the stream of air which hits my knees that comes between the upper & lower cowlings. It does have the clear deflectors on the bottom of upper cowling and the wings on the forks. Anyone find after-market deflectors or something that stops or diverts this airflow

Not a cruiser peg rider. Took my bar pegs off my v twin & sold on ebay. about the risers & bar - I returned the HD bar I got from custom cruisers which was similar to the Honda/HD but did not fit RSV between faiting & tank. Also 'risers' only push bars towards rider on RSV unless you turn the bar up which then moves hands out of the wind tunnel of fairing which is one of main reasons to "upgrade" because of wind protection. Might still cut off heel part of shifter. I like to hang my toes on the back part of floor board. I just love the boards over pegs because I can position my feet around which allows me to change my body position somewhat. Sometimes I even put my feet on passenger pegs. I was weaned on European & Jap bikes back in 60's and still like that style of riding. When got first cruiser style ride - Kawasaki Vulcan - 3 years ago, it showed me the this style of ride was OK. My next cruiser - the Honda Sabre with Mustang seat & boards - added to the comfort. Now it is the RSV which I will get used to very quickly this weekend. I plan on putting some miles on her to test her for my 3 day ride next weekend to see my son in panhandle - about 5 hour ride. He is anxious to check her out too.
-
Cougar you mean "cruiser" pegs onto the crash bars and not to replace floor boards? Also I do not like the heal shifter - cut it off or after-market replacement?
-
Yeah Cougar the tank is very clean as are petcock and carb float bowl screens and the inline gas filter clean too. Glad I don't have your tank situation! Rode her again tonight. She handles awesome! Getting better at runnin her through the gears. Think I will drive her over to the local Yamaha dealer Sat and see what they say they will do for me about the clutch basket recall. My reach feels a little cramped compared to my Honda 1100 twin. I get on the twin and the reach feels perfect. Get on my RSV (and the seat feels so much more comfortable, even though the Honda has a nice compfy Mustang seat) but I feel like I have to move the seat back like in my car. Also feel a little strain in my lower back. I see a lot of driver back rests on RSVs - maybe there is a reason? I am average 6' 190#. Looking at the handle bar I don't see room to move it forward obviously because of the inner fairing is only 1/2" away. Is there a solution to get a longer reach? Or maybe its like a new pair of shoes for me - I will get used to the fit? You guys (& gals?) have been awesome here in helping this newbie out! Thanks!

Been riding my v twin down here in FL all week and most of Dec! Read an old review on an RSV when the author's RSV ran out of fuel soon after the low fuel idiot light came on (remember why they are called "idiot" lights?). Since I have no RSV riding experience I made a mental note that when I get mine I will not rely on the fuel guage but instead do as I have been doing for 40 years and that is set the trip odometer to zero every time I fill the tank whether RSV, Gold Wing or BMW with fuel indicators or not!
