How come your kids are taller than you are? Theres got to be some kind of physiological answer! Better water? Food too far away? Air cleaner higher up? BHT? Whatever it is it's working! You have him ordering his own scoot yet since now he has gotten a taste of bike riding?

Glad you figured out what was the problem. I too just bought new boots and had a hard time coming to a stop the other day on my VR. They are pretty aggressive on the bottom which makes for harder {Gotta lift not drag foot off footpegs} manipulation. Amazing how something so simple can ruin your day. On the other note about what we all ride I have to say anything with extremely high {Monkey bars} handlebars just doesn't make sense to me. But each to his own.

The wiring diagram shows a relay for the fuel pump. Blue/something wire runs to it. Picture is not to clear to read all of color code for wires. Never had a fuel pump problem myself so can't answer how long pump will run on "out" side. Someone should chime in with the answer eventually. -
:rotfl: Philistine!:rotfl: Easy on the Democrat jokes. Might wake up the Mods. What with our economy in the crapper the repubs jokes can all so fly.

I worked on a 920 Yamahas pilot jet once. I tell you the hole in them were almost non-existent! Had to use a piece of wire so small to clean it out that I thought that it wasn't drilled out at first. There are technical bulletins on cleaning the tank and carbs on the Yamaha site. Must have been a on going problem with this model. Mccarl is right about the butterfly seals. They say to not subject them to carb cleaner for fear of damage. Plus 25yrs old bike.

hard cold starting '84
mraf replied to 6m459's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Whatever works for you on the battery as long as your tender cycles on and off and doesn't boil out the battery. As far as plugs go I use regular NGKs. New plugs are the best thing for my 83 when it gets sluggish on starting. -
Amazing he had time to remove his helmet, googles and one shoe!:rotfl:

I wish! Throttle response is so much more crisp. This behemoth feels nimble now. BUUT that summer moonshine crack sure sounds good though! In fact the brother-in laws {outlaws} and I were just talking about setting up a still today. LOL. We figure it couldn't hurt. Anything we don't consume we could always nip up the vehicles to stretch out the MPG.

Mine was slow to move cold or hot, it would eventually come to the correct RPM but just took its time. Your tach should fluctuate as rapidly as the engine RPM not get there when it can. Like I said before there could be other reasons {I.E. T.C.I. or number 2 coil.} I had ruled these out before I started to remove it for cleaning. If you wish to go on in doing this, you might as well clean and lube your speedometer also being that the bearings need periodic maintenance too. There were instructions on this I think in the technical section of this site. You have to remove the chrome Venture valance, headlight valance, headlight, windshield, unscrew the speedometer cable, unbolt the 2, 10mm bolts holding the instrument cluster to the bike. You can see these by looking up into the headlight hole. Lift the cluster up enough to remove the 4 philliphead screws holding the instrument cluster cover on and remove it. Now remove all the phillphead screws that hold the instrument cluster halves together. They are around the outside of it on the back. After removal open the cluster. You are now seeing the tach, crystal readout, voltmeter, gas gauge and speedometer. Remove the 3 small philliphead screws that hold the wires that run the tach and the 2 small nuts and washers that run the voltmeter the two{Tach & Voltmeter} are made to come out as one unit. You can now pull the tach, voltmeter independent of the cluster. Everything you do from there on is up to you.
