Car engine oil for the RSV ?
Ferrantelli replied to FL-Venture-Rider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I 2nd that! I have used it in all my bikes for the last 33 years and more than 18 different motorcycles and in all Japanese Marks. Only one time I used 20w-50, I thought it would help for the summer months in an air cooled motor. That is when I experienced shifting problems, I replaced it back to Castrol GTX 10w-40 and have had no problem since. Last bike I sold was a Vulcan with 49,000 miles. My Venture as of now has 18,000 miles. -
If my wife only rode her own bike. I would be so happy that I would get her what ever bike she likes and feel comfortable on it & I deem safe. My true friends would be just as happy for her. Anyone else who cares?............

This for those of you that have removed the passenger arm rest rubber pads, to access the rear speakers or what have you. What have you used to put them back? The double sided tape I have as well as the local parts stores are too thick! I was considering black adhesive silicone. Any suggestions!!!

Here in New York a MC license is needed on any motorcycles (2 wheels or 3 & BTW anything with 3 wheels is registered as a MC) over 49cc. I can see why there would be a problem with an electric bike. Besides I am not so sure that an electric vehicle of any king is the answer. 1. How long of a range? 2. Will the battery over time loose their capacity to receive a charge, just like all other rechargeable batteries? 3. Is it more cost efficient to pay for my electric bill or for my gasoline? 4. Is it there less pollution with burning gasoline or with burning coal to produce electricity? The only advantage I see now is the hybrid regenerative braking to recover some of the energy and use it with an added electric motor to increase overall gas mileage!

This is me and Joe first with the BMW and then with the Harley. We look good don't we!!!
-
Rick, please do not take it personally. I am just venting on how some biker & dealers have made me feel in the past, as if is not a Harley it is not worth riding. My best friend has a Harley (last year it was a BMW). I can't think of anyone else I rather ride with. But I know Joe for about 25 years, he just does not care, he would get on a moped as long as we ride. And for what it is worth I only post here and to another web site "XT225". I think highly of everyone here otherwise I would not. Stick around and hopefully will go riding together. XOXO ps. I'll carry the tools! I just could not resist:rotf:

The economy has or will hurt everyone across the board to some degree or another. The company/people best prepared will weather the storm. The excess fat will be cut and if that fat happens to be too much then the company will go under. Having said that, there's not a HD model new or old that I can not think of at least a dozen other models from other manufacturers in the same class/size/category that will outperform it in every aspects (price, brakes, power, suspension, reliability, etc., etc.,) expect one "EGO". But I must tip my hat to their CEOs and their followers to have created this mysterious aura about their bikes and name brand recognition that has allowed the company to survive as well as flourish with an out dated and inferior product. I for one consider myself a rider/motorcyclist in my 33 years of riding I considered a HD a couple of times but was quickly turned off by the same aura/attitude (we are better than anyone else) I encountered at their dealership, so I have owned 30 or so different motorcycles (non HD) over the years. And to this day I prefer no name brand product that work well and have a great value over "PARADE ATTIRE HD" products.

Installing Road King mufflers
Ferrantelli replied to phochief's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had a friend make the rear brackets from aluminum and used the VTwin 31-9920 clamps. I would not use the OEM HD claps, I read somewhere that the HD dealer's replace the clamps every time they take them apart as per factory instructions, also I heard they loosen up over time and as they are tighten they eventually break. That is another reason besides looking good, considering HD prices they may even be a bargain. -
My specs. are for the 2nd Generation! I have no info for the 1st Generation!

I have not met many of you yet, but I felt welcome from day one. Squidley I know Detroit in not near Long Island NY, although it may not be a Venture there is always an extra set of wheels in the garage for you to use if you are ever this way.

Trying to stretch the mileage per gallon of gas, I went out and bought another bike. I pick up a Yamaha XT225 Dual-sport ( now they have fancy names we used to call them enduro's). What a great little bike, it can get up 80+ mpg, there seems to be a big following on XT225/250 web site too. Now I can take advantage of another part of our sport. Not motor-cross my body could not put up with that anymore. I am talking about leisure exploring the woods. Now where are there some woods on Long Island? That makes bike # 4, my wife is a very understanding women! http://i35.tinypic.com/4j0z86.jpg

Yes they do I have that too. I am waiting for the first good snow storm so I can jack up the Venture and take the back wheel off. I finally replaced the original front Dunlop D404 after 18,497 miles. I was set on Metzler I have used them in the past with good results. However after reading many post on that matter here I was leery about them. The Venture is my first bike of this size and weight so I decided to go with the Dunlop Elite3. Has anyone switch from the D404 to the Elite3? It there any difference in handling better or worse? How about mileage? I am used to getting a few miles from my tires.

Then some animal activist would have you arrested for cruelty to animals. "It was cruel and inhumane to shoot the bear!" That's when you take out the gun and clean the gene pool.

What pressure is everyone running in their rear shock? Does it have to be checked and replenished just like the tires?
