I just listed a new RSTD Mustang seat on Ebay. I took it in for trade on a backrest that I made for another board member. It is for sale cheap because I don't care for the seating position it gives. It pushes you forward about 2 inches farther than the stock seat. The item number is 120279187965. AL

I have owned a Majesty and a Reflex and I still have 2 Helixes. The best for the money is the Majesty but they are all great. The Helix is the smoothest riding but the Majesty is very fast and doesn't cost much more. For my wife I wouldn't consider a Chinese bike because of their lack of reliability. I don't want her sitting alone on a back road with a broken bike. If you consider resale value you will realize that the brand names are cheaper in the long run. AL

Here's a pic of my bike ready for a trip. Note the driver backrest with adjustable lumbar support, tour pak mounted with RSTD brackets and the 3 gallon aux. aluminum fuel tank on the trailer. AL

Leaving on the RSTD Monday for Natchez and riding the Trace to the north end near Nashville to camp for the night. Tuesday we're heading to Cherokee N.C. to ride the back roads in the mountains for 3 or 4 days before heading back to Louisiana. I'm riding with some friends on: Nomad, RSTD, ST1300, Pacific Coast. I tightened mine and pushed down enough so that when I let go they came back up a little but were level. You may need to do this a couple times to get them perfect. Nothing will break because the mounting tab is flimsy and will bend with no problem. AL

I'll post some closeups tonight. It clips on over the bolt that holds the saddlebag guard. AL -

Takes about 5 seconds and no tools to remove it if you carry a passenger. Use the passenger as a temporary backrest. AL -

You have to carefully grind out the welds that fasten the backrest post to the uprights. You can use the leftover brackets to make a very nice looking and sturdy trunk mount. AL -

The number stamped on the muffler is 4xy-1. I believe this corresponds to the number for a 1999 RSV according to the service manual posted on this board a 4xy-2 would be a California model. Other years may have different mufflers. AL

I was just curious but I don't see a practical way to open up a large chamber that would be needed for a deeper tone. I haven't heard any of our bikes with modified mufflers but I would suspect that they are louder but without the deep mellow tone that I like. My stock mufflers have the perfect tone but I wouldn't mind a little more decibels. If I ever modify my mufflers I will attack the inside of the chamber that has the wire mesh and get the fiberglas packing out. AL

I opened up an RSV muffler and posted some pics in the picture forum. This may help anyone thinking of drilling baffles. AL GUY

Here are some pics of an RSV muffler that I opened up. If you look closely at the rear section you will see tha drilling holes in the rear cone does nothing if you don't also drill the second plate. I can post more pics if anyone wants a specific view. AL

Thanks Squidley, thats what I'll get. I also bought a set of RSTD mufflers off Ebay for $30 to get the shields off of to cover the muffler/header connection. That way I can keep my mufflers intact and still have the stock look. I'm going to wait for these to get here to do the switch out. I haven't taken the mufflers off my bike but it looks as though the clamp is part of the muffler. Will I still need Harley clamps? AL

Thanks for the info. I plan to get it done in the next few days. AL

I have a set of Ultra Classic mufflers and I am going to drill the baffles using a 1 1/4 hole saw. After I drill thru the front or rear baffle plate does that completely disconnect them or will I have to twist and shake it to break it loose from a tack weld farther in the muffler? I have read all the posts I could find and I know the procedure except for this. AL

The trailer shown on the link appears to be a $150 Harbor Freight that was painted black and a cooler rack added. AL

Denny, The tongue length should be about 36" and the trailer shouldn't be too much wider than the bike. The cheapest route is to buy a Harbor Freight trailer and modify it to fit your needs. I take all the running gear from one of these trailers and shorten the axle, build a frame from thinwall square tubing, add an aluminum deck, weld on some uprights and screw on some cypress boards to make a stake body that weighs about 150 pounds. I use big tupperware type containers to haul my tent and supplies. Total cost about $350. Hope this info helps. I'll post a picture in my gallery. AL GUY

New pics of Tour Pak mounting on my RSTD
AL GUY replied to AL GUY's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Thanks for the compliments. I agree about the cross brace and will be adding one even though the mounting is already very rigid. AL
