Anyone carry spare key on cycle?
Silver Dollar replied to jryan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I carry one in my wallet at all times. And when on long trips, I carry an additional one tied onto my boot laces. -
The original poster has made his selection, but I just want to offer this... My '05 that I purchased less the a year ago had Dunlops with 7200 miles on them. There was not much life left in the rear. I was ready to put on Avons when I ran across an ad for IRC tires. I am no stranger to Avons, as I run them on my VTX. I had never heard of this brand before. After some searching, I found that they were made as OE for a Suzuki heavy cruiser. I decided to give them a try. They only offer the narrow 130 front, but it is offered in a standard or reinforced model with a higher weight rating. (I went with the reinforced tire.) So far the tires are doing quite well. They handle nicely; as with any new tire. On a run to Ontario a month ago, I did a total of 2500 miles, 2 up, with no issues at all. Even riding about 70 miles in heavy rain posed no issues. Of course the jury is still out on these. I will post any concerns about this brand as I wear them. Oh! The price for the set was about 215.00 shipped. I didn't mean to hijack the thread, but thanks for letting me post here.

I have a '05. It is rather top heavy at parking lot speeds. Since I spend very little time riding in parking lots, I don't let it bother me. Just a bit more careful when I do.

Dash Lights
Silver Dollar replied to Silver Dollar's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I haven't had time to get it to the dealer yet. I drive a truck, and had to play catch-up after vacation. I hope to get it there friday. I will post the results. -
I prayed for you and you family. May God bless.

Same thing happened with me on my vacation run. I was thinking it must be a 5 gallon tank. Sure glad to know there is 1.5 gallons left when the low fuel light come on.

Greetings, while on vacation this past week, I discovered that the dash lights on my '05 RSV don't work. I'm speaking of the back-light that illuminates the speedometer. When dark, I cant see the speed or the gas gauge. Makes for some nerve racking riding. The last night ride prior was about a month ago, and it worked then. The only thing that has been done is the bike has been washed twice since then. Any ideas as to why it quit working? Are there regular bulbs or some type of LED lights there? Is this something that maybe I can fix, or do you recommend the dealer? Would this be a warranty item? Thanks in advance for any help.

Very find ideas, I may use the black silicon if I can't find a plug at the HD. Thanks

Thanks Freebird, I have seen them use in different applications, but I never considered that I could find what I need at the Home Depot. Thanks, I shall check there today.

Greetings friends, I have decieded to have my trunk rack re-chromed. While it is at the plater, I need some hole plugs to plug the holes till it gets back. I need to do the same thing to my fiberglass trailer too, which will be permanent. The holes are 1/4"-5/16". Can someone suggest a type, and tell me where to find such an animal. I prefer some that are low profile, chrome or non-chrome; it dosen't matter. And as always, thank you.

The trunk rack on my 05 RSV has started to rust. I want to replace it, but I don't know what brand it is. Is there a way to tell if it's a yamaha brand, or some other. Also are the mounting points the same for any rack made for the Venture. Maybe some one can give me some mearsurements of the mounting points so I can get a replacement. Thanks

Dyna Beads - Tire Balancing
Silver Dollar replied to KeithR's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I do run the Dyna Beads in the tires of my VTX. I run 2oz in the front, and 3oz in the rear, which is a car tire. I feel sure they work, as I removed all the lead weights from the wheels after they were installed. But i did not test drive the bike without the beads or the lead weights. So there was no comparison point established. The beads do not produce any noise, at least I haven't heard any. The beads are really tiny (about the size of the head of a straight pin). The are said to be made of a very dense ceramic material. You can purchase them premearsured for your particular tire size, or as I did, buy in bulk and weigh out on postal scales. A problem that a lot of people have with them is, the beads "clumping" together. You have to be really carfull not to get any of the tire bead lubricating liguid inside the tire. The liquid will cause the Dyna beads to stick together and throw the tire/wheel way out of balance. I mount my tires without any bead lube, to be sure the inside of the tire remains dry. Some let the inside of the tire get wet, and this is why you will hear people say they don't work. -

Tachometer for RSV
Silver Dollar replied to Silver Dollar's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hey Goose, that’s an interesting array of gauges you have there. I see the tach, which is right of center. But I’m curious as to the others you have, especially the digital readout in the center. Could you please explain them all, and how you mounted them, Thanks. -
Greetings friends, I'm new to the Venture. I have a 2005 model, and my questions are: Is there an aftermarket tach for the RSV? And, is there a rev limiter on these bikes? Can someone post the max spped in each gear, and the normal speed shift points? I came off of a VTX1800 to the RSV and haven't gotten the chance to ride it much due to the weather. So I'm kinda having trouble breaking myself of the VTX's characteristics.
