  1. I am looking to rebuild my braking system on my Venture and have a question on the caliper seals for the front brakes. The microfiche shows two different calipers seal kits for the front calipers. Part numbers 1KT-W0047-00-00 and 1NL-W0047-00-00. I did notice there is also two different part numbers for the piston so I am guessing that the pistons are different sizes and that is why there are two different seal kits. Is this correct? Thanks Rick Fink
  2. Or maybe Polaris isnt sponsoring Petty Enterprises anymore and therefore Kyle can ride anything he wants to now. I know that a few years ago Richard Petty was doing commericals for Polaris and I noticed that he hasnt for a while. Just a thought. Rick F.
  3. looks like Jay Leno got the very first production one. He has a video of it on his website. http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/ Rick F.
  4. One thing you need to take into consideration is where is the TV going to be places. Plasma is a good choice if their is no reflections of light. LCD is better if there will be outside light, ie sunshine, on the screen. I would recommend a 1080p HDTV with an upconvertor built into the unit. This will help upgrade the incoming signal to 1080p standards and helps with old DVD movies and such. I just purchased a Sony 40" LCD Bravia at a local electronics store. They were more then happy to let me see different video sources on different TVs. I went with a LCD as it is sitting in my living room with a big picture window facing west. I did break down and get a HD cable convertor and and HD package from the local cable company. I used a HDMI cable to connect between the two. Now some channels are broadcast in 720i, 720p and 1080i but there is still alot of programs that are still standard format. I suggest go to a local shop and talked to them about what you want and expect and see what they recommend. Good Luck.. Rick F.
  5. Check out this link .. http://www.taxadmin.org/FTA/rate/sales.html There are still some states with no sales taxes yet. So I would guess those would be the best states to get anything in. Rick F.
  6. check this out in the tech library http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6875 I think that will answer your question. Rick F.
  7. I am glad someone here was able to get it. I see there is a used one going for $102 plus shipping also but the bidding is open on that one still. Rick
  8. There is a Venture line travel trunk rack on ebay for a buy it now price of $70 plus $11.50 shipping if anyone is interested. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/YAMAHA-VENTURE-TOURBOX-RACK-NEW_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35580QQihZ002QQitemZ120168798180QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Rick F.
  9. Thanks all, I was looking at the Custom Dynamics Radiantz 1.85 " 1157 direct base leds but was wondering on the clearance issues but it sounds like they will work. I am wondering if installing a load resistor wouldn't solve the warning light issue as I am sure the computer is looking at the load to see if all of the bulbs are working or not. I think I have seen some listed for this purpose. Thanks again.. Rick F.
  10. Has anyone installed LEDs in the 1st gen in place of the 1157 bulbs and if so, what did you use and how do you like it. I found that I have a burnt out running light in my taillight and was thinking about using an LED bulb for them. Thanks, Rick F.
  11. I found this price for a 89 VR on Flatout today. 9 DIAPHRAGM ASSY 1FK-14940-09-00 (replaces 1FK-14940-00-00) 1 $63.02 Checked on other years and found the same price for them also. Rick F..
  12. Thanks for the information as I plan on doing the progressive swap out this winter on my 89VR. I would prefer it to be a nice riding good cornering upgrade then too harsh. I am sure I will use your information and get it right. Thanks again. Rick F.
  13. Dont forget to grease the driveshaft spines also at this time. When I had my 89 VR swing arm out, I found the shaft was dry also. It isnt hard to do and I think there is some information on doing all of this in the tech library. Good Luck.. Rick F.
  14. I use Flatout Motorcycles http://www.flatoutmotorcycles.com/default.asp They are also easy to deal with and order from. Rick F.
  15. I have an 89 VR with the superbrace on it. It was a tight fit with out any boots as my bike didnt come with them as the 90's did. If you pull up the boot how do the holes line up. I would be tempted to pull the boots up and then attach the brace and then see if you can get the boots back into their proper place. Check and see what might need to be clearanced to make them fit properly. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Rick F.
  16. From what I have found looking for rear brake rotors. The 86-93 Venture was the only yamaha to use this type of rotor and they arent cheap at all, even from Flatout. But EBC does make a replacement rotor for the Venture and I have seen it new for around $170 at MAWonline.com. Some do show up on Ebay from time to time. But you never know if you are getting a good one or a questionable one. Good Luck and enjoy the bike. Rick F...
  17. I just rebuilt my clutch master cyclinder and activator and I also had oil leak out. I figured some would even though they say be careful not too. I did have the bike on its centerstand also.I had already drained the oil out of the engine anyway and this was what was left in the transmission so it was replaced when I refilled the oil. I found the easiest way to get the activator out was to more the wires and then bend the tab that holds them out of the way a bit and that made the job of removal alot easier. I tried to see where to remove it but never did see a nut or bolt that held it in. I also took the time to install the speed bleeder and found I had to back it out a couple turns before it would bleed the system. Good Luck.. Rick F..
  18. just a thought.. Have you replaced you spark plugs and plug wires and boots. I noticed that when I replaced them on my bike, the low end was alot more responsive and the bike just ran better at slower engine speeds. This was without syncing carbs or doing any adjustments to them. Rick F...
  19. I wouldnt use it in my oil on a bike. I would be worried what it might do to the clutch as it uses motor oil and it is possible that it might affect the wet clutch. Just my opinion, take it for what it is worth. Rick F.
  20. That is one of the problems with ethanol in the gas. They cant mix it into the gas and then ship it via pipeline anywhere as it will absorb the moisture from the pipeline and render the gas useless. The ethanol has to be blended into the gas at the distribution point and then trucked to the gas stations. If the distribution point has rail access, then it doesn't add much to the cost of the fuel, but if they must truck it from a rail siding or ethanol plant then the cost starts to add up. For me I have noticed a decrease in gas mileage as the BTU from a gallon of gas is higher then the BTU from a gallon of bended gas. Also I believe that Congress mandated that all gas be blended with ethanol and that was one of the factors in last year run up of gas prices. Just thought I put my 2 cents worth in. Rick F
  21. Other thought would be what type of oil are you using in the bike. Make sure you are not using a automotive oil that has friction modifiers in it as that will cause the clutch to start slipping also. There is a lot of treads on here about different oils and which ones people use. That is just a thought that I first had, but cleaning out the hyd system for the clutch makes sense too. Rick Fink
  22. Thanks Condor.. I thought it would be but wanted to be sure. Rick F.
  23. For the 86-93 1st gen, would all the bleeders be the same size. I was wondering about the bleeder for the link brake system that is on the steering head. I would like to replace this one also. Just checking to see if anyone else has replaced this one with a speed bleeder. Thanks Rick F.
  24. Here is the link to the Red Wing motorcycle boots for a local dealer here in Minnesota. They do have prices listed on their web page. http://www11.ivenue.com/chetsshoestore/cyclebootmotorcycleboots.ivnu I hope this helps. Good Luck and enjoy the race. Rick F.
