Improving gas mileage...
cimmer replied to 5bikes's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Just wondering how this has worked for the people that did this earlier this year. I am getting ready to replace the diaphragms on mine and am looking to lean it out a bit as the muffler tips are sooty and mileage is in the 37mpg range. I plan on installing new plugs and checking them regularly too. Just looking for some feed back on this is all. Thanks Rick F. -
If you didnt win them, it appears Sirius will have more in stock this week. Rick F.

Basically like changing out a rear tire but then remove the A-arms from the swing arm and then you should be able to remove the shock. It would also be a good time to grease all the pivot joints on the swing arm and the A-arms as the first time I took mine off, the joints hadnt been grease since new and nothing would move freely. I took the opportunity to install the grease zerks and now I can grease it whenever I want. I would think it would take about 3 to 4 hours to remove. Good Luck and let us know how it goes.. Rick F.

Welcome to the group FieldDoc. I think you will find that after getting your bike fixed up, you will be happy with it. Let us know what question you have and we will do our best to answer them for you. Some of us might have parts you can use also. And once the roads clear up, we will have to plan a local ride in the area also. Hang in there, Rick F.

Starts but won't keep running
cimmer replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Get some Seafoam and put some in the gas tank. You could also have bad gas from sitting in storage over the winter. I also store my gas engines with Seafoam in the gas and havent had any issue getting them to restart when I needed them. Seafoam will also clean out some of the gunk in the carbs and is recommended by alot of people here on the site. You should be able to find it in some of the better auto parts stores. Rick F. -
20 mpg....why
cimmer replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Pull the plugs and look at them and see how they look. My guess is that you are running way rich and they will be black or even wet. I would double check your choke cable and make sure there is some play in it as you dont want it too tight. Starting without the choke might indicate this as the issue. Mostly it will be trial and error to find something like this. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Rick F. -
Here is an Ebay item that I am planning on bidding on http://desc.shop.ebay.com/items/__Yamaha-Venture?LH_TitleDesc=1&_nkw=%22Yamaha%20Venture%22&_trkparms=66%253A2%257C65%253A1%257C39%253A1&_dmpt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&_sop=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_pgn=2#item360141365917 This is a binder with the Ventureline accessories in it. I was thinking I would get it and scan all the information in it to a set of PDF files and post them here in the forum for everyone to be able to access so they can use for their needs. Let me know if you think it is a good idea or not. Thanks Rick F.

I think it is the 9003 also. I believe where I purchased them had a conversion guide. I do know it was a direct fit. Rick F. -
Ebay Carb. Diaphragm Replacement!
cimmer replied to skydoc_17's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks for the write up Earl, I too have been looking at these replacement diaphragms as I feel my bike isnt getting the gas mileage it should be either and appears to be running rich. I think now with your write up and photos, I will more at ease in doing this and go this route later on when spring is here and I can work in the garage comfortably. Did I notice in one of your pictures, you indicated new springs in the carbs? What prompted you to replace these if you dont mind me asking? Thanks for a great write up. Rick F. -
xenon headlight
cimmer replied to mother's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I put the silverstar bulb in my 89 VR and my buddy's 89 VR and we both are very happy with the additional brightness of the headlight now. We pick up a twin pack at the local Fleet Farm. I would recommend them to others. Rick F. -
How do you take apart a diaphram
cimmer replied to BnkrBill's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Not I .. but I do plan on buy a set of these soon off of Ebay.. Let me know when you get yours and I wont bid till after that.. Rick F.. -
I went with the Sony Bravia XBR series of TVs. This is their high end LCD HDTV with 1080P. I am very happy with the picture and would recommend it highly. I purchased it from a local chain, Ultimate Electronic, which price matches for 60 days. I would also recommend that you dont buy any of your cables from Best Buy or any of the box stores but try some of these place. http://www.cablemart.com http://www.monoprice.com I was able to get a wall mount for under $20 from them and they also have HDMI cables at a very reasonable price. Good luck and dont be afraid to have the sales people try different picture sources on the TV you are interested in. A good dealer will be able to but up an Over the Air signal and show you how the TV looks with it. Rick F.

Big Bike Parts no longer has this item for sale. I checked with them earlier this year to pick up one and was told they no longer stock or sale this item. JC Whitney use to list one also and it is no longer listed on their website either. Not sure where to find one at as I havent seen one listed Ebay for a long time now. If you do find a source, can you let us know. Thanks Rick F.

Gas stabilizer of sea foam?
cimmer replied to Maritimer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have been using Seafoam in my engines for over 10 years and dont think I will use anything else. Most will start on the first pull of the season after I change the oil. I use it in the motorcycle all the time and in my personal car, which is driven very little, and have experienced no gas related problems to any of them. Seems like a product that does what it says it will and then some. Just my opinion... Rick F.- 16 replies

Bleeding front brakes
cimmer replied to okiefirefighter's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Dont forget about the bleeder for the link brake system that is at the top of the triple tree. It is between the false tank cover and the triple tree. This is the highest point on the link brake system, left front caliper and the rear brake controled by the rear master cyclinder. I would recommend if you dont have a service manual, to download the one from the tech section and reference it to the proper bleeding sequence. Here is the link to it. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3384 Good Luck. Rick F. -
Try them on dry and see what feels the best for you as you sit on the bike. That is how I approached it. They right grip is some what of a guess since it will be rotating anyway. Follow their directions and you shouldnt have any issues. Good Luck.. Rick F.
