    Well I was wondering if anyone who sent in the rebate has received the MasterCard gift card back from Avon yet. Sent mine in well before the deadline and havent seen a thing from them. I even called and left message and nothing so far. I thought I would check and see if anyone has received theirs yet. And as a side note, when I called I ended up getting a hold of Mickey Thompson Tires. Guess they are associated with Avon now. Thanks Rick F.

    sounds more like a ignition issue the carb. Have you replaced the spark plug wires and spark plugs recently. That would be one of the first things I would do if you havent yet. Hope that helps. Rick F.

    Just a thought here.. How are your spark plugs looking. When I did my mode I replaced the plugs also so I would have fresh indicators to check. The ones I removed where carboned up a bit so that is why I replaced mine. I am now getting in the mid 40's running close to 70 mph on the interstates. Rick F.

    I know there are a lot of scenic rides in the Black Hills but here are some of that don't get a lot of traffic usually. One of the better ride is just south of Sturgis, SD, just south of I-94 exit 32. It is Vanocher Canyon Road. There is alot of curves and elevation changes on it and very little traffic other the other motorcyclist. It is a nice paved road and run to Nemo Road on the south end. From here I take Nemo road east towards Rapid City but turned south onto Norris Peak road. This was a twisty, sometimes little narrow paved 2 lane road the goes to Johnson Siding on SD 44. From here you can either go east to Rapid City or west to US 385. I enjoyed this ride so much I did it twice, once from the north and then from the south.. I also went into Sturgis and had lunch at One eyed Jacks on Main St. They have excellent hamburgers there. Another fun ride was the Old Hill City Road. This run alongs the Hill City Railroad tracks to Keystone. It is lightly traveled and has alot of curves on it. You will cross the tracks over a dozen times also. This is a nice ride from Hill City to Keystone. Of course I did the major riding roads too.. US 16A and Needles Highway. The one thing to watch out for on Needles highway are the tour buses and I mean the full size kind. So be prepared for meeting a few of these. I ended up meeting 4 of them on one trip and it took one of them about 20 mins to get thru the eye. He sure had traffic backed up both ways. Also road in Spearfish Canyon Road, US 14. We started in Spearfish and rode to US 85 where we headed south to New Castle, Wy. This is a nice road with lots of twisties in SD and then flattens out in Wy but still is a nice ride. We returned to the Hills via US 16 east to Custer. This route has more traffic but does have some scenic spots that make it a nice change. Another circle I did was south out of Hill City on US 385, thru Custer and south to SD 87 north. SD 87 is a twisty narrow road that runs up to US 16 and has all kinds of different terrain. I didnt have alot of traffic on this road either, compared to US 16A and Needles Hwy. There is a pigtail bridge on this section also that adds some interest to it but alot of wide open areas that give stunning views of the valleys. These were the roads I traveled this time and there are alot more you can do. If you dont mind gravel roads, there is always the forest roads to explore but I dont recommend it on a Venture Royale. Hope this helps in your travels of the Black Hills. I know I sure enjoys my travels out there on the motorcycle. Rick F.

    Just thought I let everyone know that there is a section of US Hwy 212 in South Dakota that you might want to avoid. It is between Redfield and Faulkton SD. This section in packed gravel and dirt. The actual length of this section of "road" is 26 miles west of Redfield to the western edge of Redfield. There is no posted detour but google maps does show heading south on US Hwy 281 to SD 26 west and then going north on SD 45. Unfortunately I did take that route so I can attest to how it is, but I can tell you that the section of 212 wasnt fun at all. After getting over it and stopping in Faulkton, a local said it has been that way for a few years now with no completion date stated. I do know there was no construction equipment to be seen anywhere there. The rest of US 212 was a nice drive and well worth the ride if you are either heading out to the Black Hills or back from there. Just want to let you know in case you are planning on that route.     might want to check or just replace your plug wires and caps too if they havent been replaced. Plug wire could be back and not pass strong juice to the plugs when at low speeds. I know when I replaced mine, my low end response improved. Just a thought. Rick F.

    If you are going to rebuild the braking system, be sure to include new brake hoses also. I would recommend Rick Butlers Buckeye Performance , http://www.buckeyeperformance.com/index.html . I installed these on my 89 VR when I rebuilt the braking system on it. It made a world of difference on the stopping power as the old hose where expanding when the levers were activated. I also used EBC HH brake pads along with the new hoses. Just my two cents worth... Rick F.

    If you havent gotten them already. Dennis Kirk stocks them too and he is just down the road from you there. You can also pick up non resistor wire and replace caps and wires while you are at it. Something to think about.. Rick F.

    I believe that they are 4" round speakers, least that is what I used in my 89 VR fairing. I was able to use some Panasonic speakers for mine that I purchased at Best Buy a few years ago. Rick F.

    I had the same problem with mine Motion Pro SyncPro. The issue is they use a grease to help make the seal with the screws in the tubes. I had mine suck the fluid right out of them. Called up Motion Pro to complain and they sent me the fixit kit with grease and new fluid and directions. Give them a call about it and they should send you the kit for free also. If I was to buy another set of sticks, it wouldnt be these again. They worked fine once I fixed them, but I havent used them since last summer so who knows what will happen when I use them again. They one thing I did was to move them to my basement instead of leaving them in the garage over winter, so I hope them helps. Good luck and call Motion Pro about it. Rick F.

    Another good tip is to replace the plug wires and caps. I did this on mine and it greatly improved low end response with just the plug wire and cap change. You can order the wire and caps from Dennis Kirk or there is someone on Ebay that sells the wires and caps. The wires are non-resistor wire with the caps being a 5K resistance source. Just another thing to think about. Good Luck Rick F.

    Just a thought here.. if the rear seems to be riding stiff, I would check and make sure your rear relay arm is moving freely. I think that the 90 has grease zerks on the rear suspension that might need some grease. Just a thought as I know mine wasnt free when I got it and I ended up taking it apart and greasing everything on the rear. Good luck and enjoy the bike. Rick F.

    about the only replacement I am aware of is the Progressive shock. They are about $435 US for a replacement one. You can purchase just the spring and replace the original spring with it. I believe that has to be purchased directly from Progressive Springs. Good Luck.. Rick F.

    Was just thinking about this and agree that the people in cars are multitasking way too much. Heck I find myself doing it at times even and then stopping it. But when some idiot is doing ~155mph on a motorcycle, nearly 3 times the speed limit, how would someone see him coming. We are talking 227 feet per second here at 155mph. No way could someone be expected to be able to detect that on a public street or highway and comprehend how fast and quick that is to avoid it. While there are plenty of incidents of cager neglect, in this case this is a dumb stupid idiot on a motorcycle giving us all a bad name, IMHO. Thanks.. Rick F.

    I had the same issue with my 89 VR when I purchased it new. It had been sitting for about 5 years and the bushing were bone dry and not moving. I only had to replace 4 of mine but I did add grease zerks on the swingarm. There was an article on how to do it and I think it is in the tech section for 1st gens. If you cant find it, I think I have a copy of it somewhere on on of my PCs. Also on your parts, try Partshark.com as they have the bushings for $15.41 each. I too was wonder if some metal bushings would work but I never ran with it. I have seen some at hardware and automotive stores but never have check to see if they are the same size or not.
