  1. It is at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield IL. One mile dirt track that use to be one of the fastest tracks around for its size. Have fun if you go... Rick F.
  2. When I asked about the motor, I was told that it is longer then the venture motors so you might have to lengthen the frame for it to fit. Good luck.. Rick F.
  3. I have had the HH on my bike for a couple of years now.. very good stopping power and I am very happy with them. I also upgraded brake hoses and rebuilt all of the calipers and master cylinders at the same time. Rick F
  4. I used a Pioneer 4" speaker I picked up from Best Buys years ago. Not sure if they even make them still. The key is for them to be 4 inch speakers and waterproof cant hurt either. Do a search and you should find some old threads on this subject. Hope that helps Rick F.
  5. I called Big Bike Parts at 888-244-2453 ext 10. The part numbers are as follows: Center red lens 900100L Left amber lens 900100LL Right amber lens 900100RL They had all 3 items in stock as of last Thursday, 7-18-13. To remove the lens, I just slowing worked them loose as they are just help in with silicon or some soft glue. Just take it slow and work it back and forth slowly. It will slowly come loose. I then used a LED strip that I purchased off of ebay. Here is a link to the type I used. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Red-5M-SMD-5050-300-Leds-Flexible-Car-Strip-String-Light-Waterproof-IP65-12V/251085445707?_trksid=p2045573.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D27%26meid%3D42235430572908007%26pid%3D100033%26prg%3D1011%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D161034279472%26 I was able to get 4 strips of LEDs in the center part of the housing which made it as bright at the brake light in the tail light housing. Here is a link to a thread on how I did it with some pictures. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=71811 I also added a modulator from BikeVis, http://www.bikevis.com/motorcycle-tail-brake-converter.html It lets me use the LEDs as tail lights and a flashing brake light. I just wanted to been seen. Hope this helps and ask more questions if you need to. Rick F.
  6. I just order replacement lenses for my light bar for the travel trunk. I was surprised to see that they had added a diffuser to the amber turn lenses now that helps to spread the light out and light up the turn signal a lot better. They still have all the replacement lenses for the light bar also. I included some pictures of how it lights up different now and how the new part looks if you are interested. First picture is without the diffuser and the second is with it. Third picture is how it looks with the diffuser and then the parts separated in the 4th.. Rick F.
  7. just a note to any of you heading down US Hwy 61. There is single lane traffic where I-90 crosses the Mississippi River into Wisconsin and Hwy 61 heads south along the Minnesota side. I came across there about 430pm on Friday and traffic was backed up about 3 to 4 miles before the single lane. Just be prepared if coming this way. Rick F.
  8. The ride along the north shore in Minnesota is nice. You are along the lake in a lot of places with many scenic overlooks. Gas, food and lodging isnt a problem with lots of places along the way. You can do the 4 lane from Duluth to Two Harbors and then it will be 2 lane road rest of the way, or you can take old Hwy 61 and it goes along the lake and is two lane all the way to Two Harbors. Depending on traffic and stops, it can take 4 hours to get from Duluth, Mn to the border. About another hour to Thunder Bay, Ont if I recall correctly. I would recommend staying in the Thunder Bay area and heading east from there. From there you will see the lake off and on if I recall correctly and it will be 2 lane road around to Sault Marie, Ont where you can cross back over to the US and head south to the Mac. It will be a nice ride that is for sure. The Northern Lights will be hit or miss, just depends on the solar flairs and such. But it will be dark enough up there. I am not sure on places to came or stay as it was years ago since I have been that way. Hope that helps. Rick F.
  9. I just installed a pair on my 89 VR. I ended up mounting them on top of the vents on each side of the fairing. I also got their flasher for the lights that make them twinkle. I have taken one trip with them and they seem to get the attention of the cagers. I plan on posting some pics and video when I get a chance. Rick F.
  10. I would also check the a-arm and it joints to make sure they are properly greased and have free movement as if they are binding it will cause the bike not to track well in curves. Also make sure all the bolts on the frame attachment as tighten to specs as the rear subframe bolts to the main frame behind the engine and under the seat. Good Luck and welcome to the group. Rick F.
  11. Were the blocks of wood under it meant to keep it from bowing in the middle or a temporary stand to hold it up. Just curious is all.. But it is interesting. Makes you wonder if the cagers would see this coming or not.. Rick F.
  12. it cant hurt to replace the cotter pin, depends on the shape of it. You will need grease for the spines and joints, and gear lube if you drain the differential and replace its lube. if you install the grease zerks, you till need 5 of them and of course a drill and tab. Hope that helps. Rick F.
  13. Here the article on installing the grease zerks on the a-arm. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1057 It is worth the time and trouble to do these and be aware the 88 VR has a different a-arm setup then the 83-87 Ventures do. The shock has its own mounting point. I would also lube the drive shaft spines at the u-joint connection by the engine. Time wise is a hard one to call as it depends if any of these parts had been lube in the past. If not there could be issues. I know when I did mine the first time after getting it, the a-arm wasnt moving freely and I had to replace the plastic bushing in a few places. Good Luck.. Rick F.
  14. Hey Frank, have you ever replaced the sparkplug wires and caps on your bike. I wonder if that might not help you out some also. Just asking. Rick F.
  15. When I rebuilt the clutch slave cylinder on my 89 VR, I drained the oil out of the bottom bolt hole on the cover. This is just engine oil as the transmission and engine share the same oil. I wouldnt worry about the little amount of oil that comes out but be aware there is a washer on the bottom bolt that helps to seal the opening. I would have a new gasket for when you did this and it will need to be replaced also. Getting the cylinder out can be a pain but take you time and work it around and it will come out. If I recall correctly it drops out the bottom but it takes a bit. You can order a rebuild kit for it or a new complete unit I believe. Rebuilding it wasnt that hard and it what I did on mine and it has been leak free for 5 years now. There is also a manual for the 1st Gens here in the tech section if that helps you out also. Good luck and ask the group if you are unsure of anything. Rick F.
  16. I just checked out my 89 VR and the VIN sticker is located below the clutch cover on the right side as you sit on the bike. It is just above the exhaust pipe. It is also stamped into the triple tree neck on the right side also. I have my fairing off at the moment and is easy to see but with the fairing on, it will be a little tough to see, but if you take off the grate where the emergency flasher switch is, that might make it easier. Let me if you need some assistance with it. Rick F.
  17. The problem I had with SyncPro was the o-rings were dried out and I had to call Motion Pro and get a refill kit. They did send one for free but the o-rings had dried out within a year and that was storing it in my heated basement. I havent bothered to get another refill kit as I am not sure if I really want to use it again or not. When it worked it seemed to work fine the couple of times I used it. Just not happy with all the issues it has. Good Luck Rick F.
  18. Not sure what to tell you but I would have your daughter clarify with Walmart just what they mean by to the door. Then when they call you to arrange delivery, I would ask the person calling if they are bring it into your house and setting it where you want. Most time when I have had furniture delivered, They would bring it into the house and set it where we wanted it. Granted I didnt buy it from Walmart, but asking and if needed tipping might all you need to do. Good Luck. Rick F.
  19. Glad to hear it. I did a share in facebook asking all my "friends" to vote for her. I hope she has a wonderful experience singing at the event. Rick F.
  20. Here is a link to Dennis Kirks online catalog with the different NGK spark plug caps. https://www.denniskirk.com/search/NGK+Spark+Plug+Cap.q They show all the different ones. When using these you need to use solid core nonresistor wire as the caps have a 5K resistor built into the cap. Hope this helps. Rick F.
  21. I have the Clearview GT25 on my 89 VR and included a couple pictures of it for you to check out. I really glad I got the tinted one as it does help in the sunshine and at night with the headlights. Rick F.
  22. they are only available used as they havent been sold new in years. Check ebay and the classifieds here as some will show up from time to time. The important thing is to get the correct spacers that came with the kit or you will need to that your stock one shortened. Hope that helps. Rick F.
  23. He was just in St. Paul, MN last month with Kid Rock. I didnt get to make it as I was working but heard it was an amazing show. They both came out at the end together and performed some songs together. Sounded like they had been wanting to perform together for a while and did a few shows together. Rick F.
  24. I am not sure on the MK I mufflers, but on the MK II, there is a tab on the muffler just like the two on the tips that the springs attach to. I dont have a MK I, but if I remember correctly, they never had the turn down tips. You might need to figure out a different way to attach them to the mufflers. Rick F.
  25. Go with the Sirius!! I did that on my 89 a few years ago and also did the needle valve shim and my mileage is in the mid 40's when I take it easy. Very easy to install and worth the effort. I had a lot of small holes in my old original set. And on a side note, if you are looking for a battery, try Mills Fleet Farm as they have the AGM batteries that are made in the USA by Deka. I was able to pull off the label on the box and it has the Deka label under it. These are some of the best batteries around and the price is right, especially when you can get them on sale. Good Luck Rick F.
