Will, a lot of us here use Shell Roletta 15w-40 diesel oil in the bikes. I been using it in my 89 VR for over 8 years now. You can buy it in the gallon jugs at most places. What you have to watch out for is the automotive oil with the additives to reduce friction as that will play havoc with the wet clutches. Not sure why your having shifting issues but I am sure the folks here will be able to assist you with that. Rick F.

The accent panels are the same between the MKI and MKII expect that the MKII has a notch cut out for the band on the bottom of the side panel. So a set off of a MKI will work on a MKII, just makes it hard to get the side cover off at times. Rick F.

I been doing some researching and have located these new items that should work. I didn't want to cut up my stock coil connectors so I located parts to build my own harness for the COPs. I have the Ignitech TCI that I am installing along with the COPs so I am not concerned about the resistors for the harness. I hope this helps out if anyone is going to build their own harness. I picked up a set of JIS and it does make a big difference on working on the bike as it doesnt damage the screw heads. I even taken to using them on phillips screws that give me a hard time getting loose. I would highly recommend anyone working on their bikes to get a set. Rick F.

Have you checked the service manual and follow the troubleshooting guide in there yet? I would also check and make sure the vacuum line between the cruise control unit and the vacuum pump is ok and able to hold vacuum. If it isn't I don't believe that you can not get an actual set for the cruise control to reference. Section 7-133 references the Cruise Control System and I believe you can still download the service manual from the library section. Good luck Rick F.

I guess I have seen those in a few of the pictures I have seen online of Venture and was never sure what they were. I can see how they would help the passenger be able to reposition their legs when riding. Thanks for sharing. Rick F.

I was fortunate to have the fairing chrome edge pieces on my VR when I purchased it and I believe I have only seen a new set show up on ebay once in all the years I have been looking for Venture line items. What sound interesting is the passenger footboard risers. Does anyone have or seen this option on a Venture and just how does it mount? Just curious mostly. Thanks for posting. Rick F.

I have it in my tires on my 89 VR and it sure is smoother then before I installed it. If I recall correctly, I put 7oz in the front tire and 9oz in the rear as this was how I read the dosage chart on the Ride On website. Rick F.

The Dunlop Elite 3 MU90B16 would be the correct rear tire and the MR90-18 for the front tire for the 86-93 Venture. This pair is rated to carry 930lbs @ 40psi on the rear and 760lbs @ 40psi on the front. Not sure what the Shinko's will carry but no matter what tires you buy, make sure you keep the air pressure near the max for the longest tread life. Good luck Rick F.

have you tried to sync the carbs since you rebuilt them or adjust the idle mixture screws. I would look at those issues before looking at the TCI unit. Make sure all the vacuum line are properly seated and not leaking. I always look for the simple things first before jumping into the major items.. Good luck Rick F.

The issue you are having sounds like that the bike wont idle but stays at 3000 RPM instead of at around a 1000 RPM. Make sure the choke cable isnt hanging up on you if you use that to start it or if it is already engage at the carbs. With the left side cover off you should see the choke lever moving up and down as you move the choke lever on the left handlebar. I would make sure that the cable is lubed at the handlebars and moves freely in the cable housing and if needed there is an adjustment at the carb for the choke cable. Also be aware there is a junction for the throttle cable that might also need to be lubed where the cruise control connects. The handlebar cable doesnt actually go the carbs but instead connects at a junction box and another set of cables goes to the carbs from there. I would look at all the cables first since you have had the carbs rebuilt. I think what you are looking for is a 5 connector din plug. Had my first ride of the season tonight. Went for a short jaunt around town to just check out things, as the streets were dry and the temps in the 60's which for Minnesota is something at this time of year. I must say it was the earliest I have ridden my 89 VR since I have owned it. Next up it is time to add all the goodies I have picked up over the winter, such as a 4 brush starter, progressive rear spring, and Dingy's new TCI unit. All will all be added before the long rides start up as I expect that Mother Nature will still throw snow and cold at us here in Minnesota before May is here. Be safe out there.. Rick F.

The only carb kit I have seen is this one by Keyster, Part# K-1359YK, and listed here at SCI, http://www.siriusconinc.com/search_result.php?search=search&make=2&model=Venture&part=1&partno=&x=30&y=8. I havent used it or heard of anyone that has and it doesnt include a lot of the things you might need to replace. ie diaphragms for one. This might be a good start and you will need 4 kits of course. Just an FYI, Big Bike Parts still has the replacement lenses for their old rear light bar. You just have to call in to order them is all. I also added a bunch of red led strips to red portion of the light bar to make it a brake light and then added amber LED strips to make the turn signals brighter. I remember being in Oshkosh, Wi at the EAA convention back in the early 80's and on their warbird day, they had 3 B17s in the air, a full squad of P51s and numerous other war birds flying about. I was quite the show to see and hear.. The Ga show would be very interesting to see also. Rick F.
