  1. First thing to make sure is that the headset button isnt pressed on the Amplifier panel on the left fairing panel. It is labeled "H PH" and is next to the tone knob. This being activates would keep you from hearing via the speakers in the fairing. Try listen to the radio but make sure the CB is turned off as you do as it designed to override the radio output. Rick F.
  2. One more thought on this subject is that with Progressive springs installed, I have found no need to add air to the front forks as the bike handles great without the addition of air. I would recommend replacing the fork oil no matter what you do and maybe do this first. You should find out fairly quick when you drain out the old oil. If you dont get much out, then you have a leak, if not , replace it and see what happens. The Progressive springs will change the amount of oil that the forks need but the directions for the springs let you know how much you need for each one. Rick F.
  3. This is a breather connection for the engine so I wouldnt plug it on the engine side as it needs to breathe. So the filter is the way to go as it also keeps the oil out of the air cleaner too if the oil is filled up to the full mark in the engine. Rick F.
  4. Found a manual for you Vector VEC 1090A changer and it sounds like it wont desulfate a motorcycle battery as it states in the manual, "BATTERY RECONDITION MODE should only be used with 10 amp hour (Ah) or larger capacity lead-acid batteries" and from the manual it says use the 2-amp setting for motorcycles. Here is a link to the manual. http://www.manualslib.com/manual/625859/Vector-Vec1090-A.html#manual Rick F.
  5. Cant say for your charger but I use the BatteryMinder Plus model 12117 and it states it does work on all 12 volt Lead-acid batteries which includes AGM. Been using it on my Deka AGM battery for about 4 years now and it still works great. Their website is http://www.batteryminders.com. Hope that helps, Rick F.
  6. If you have a Sears store close by try this one. http://www.craftsman.com/craftsman-18mm-easy-to-read-spark-plug-socket/p-00950728000P?prdNo=3&blockNo=3&blockType=G3 It is showing $4.31 and should be available at most Sears stores and it is listed as a thin wall spark plug socket. Rick F.
  7. That hose to the airbox can be removed and a filter installed where it connects at the engine block and a plug attached to the airbox connection and it makes the airbox a lot easier to remove and reattach. One of the members here does sell the filter to do this. Rick F.
  8. One thought here is have you replace the old fuse panel with a more modern one yet. I found that on my 89 that the original fuse panel fuse holders had lost their grip or spring to hold the fuse tight. Replacing with the blade fuses might help with this issue and give you a better piece of mind about the bike. There are numerous post about this in the archives on this subject. Just a thought.. Rick F.
  9. a good test would be to try the factory control box if you still have it and see it the issues is still there. If it is, then it isnt the ignitech system.. if issues goes away then you know you have issues with it. Let us know if you can try that. Rick F.
  10. Glad you figured it out. Your guys work on this will help us all down the road if it occurs to our 1st Gens. Thanks again. Rick F.
  11. Just a quick thought to try this.. pump up the system to the max, about 75 psi and then disconnect the wiring harness from the CLASS controler and see if that helps to hold the air in the system. It could be a leaking solenoid or one that is getting a small electrical signal from the class unit. Sounds like you have check about everything else. Rick F.
  12. I only have the fog lights and use the supplied switch to control them and usually have them on with both the high and low beams. I have the right one direct to help light up the white line and ditches with the left one more on the center line for when I am riding in rain and fog mostly and to help being seen and didnt want to blind oncoming traffic and possible endanger myself. Rick F.
  13. Leave the site as is and see what happens over the next couple of years. I think changing it to include other bikes will just drive membership away. Rick F.
  14. It sounds like maybe the air release solenoid valve could be leaking air. There is a complete section in the service manual on the CLASS system and how to troubleshoot it in the electrical section. I would start there and see if that helps solve it. If you dont have the manual, there is a link to one in the tech section that you can download. How close was the rear flap to the ground when you installed it or first got the bike? Hope this helps. Rick F.
  15. I installed a set of the PIAA LP530 fog lights on my 89 VR but they also make a set of driving lights. I was thinking it would be nice to have a fog light on the left side of the bike and a driving light on the right but the pair of fog light work great for me. here is a link to them http://www.piaa.com/store/p/187-LP530-3-5-LED-Driving-Light-Kit.aspx Rick F.
  16. Mine was a 1974 Yamaha DT125 that I purchased when I was 16. Learned how to ride that in the sand hills and back country and on the local roads. Sold that for a 70 Chevelle SS 396 and didnt have a motorcycle again till 1979 and it was a 77 Yamaha 750 triple. Rick F.
  17. Yamaha changed the rear shock mounts with the 1988 model till the end of production. I would also take the time to add grease zerks to the pivot points on the swing arm and a-arm. This will help in keeping everything nice and lubed in the rear of the bike. I believe you can find where to do these in the tech section. Good Luck Rick F.
  18. Was just checking the Edset website, http://www.edsets.com/ , and see they are offering a 15% discount on their headsets and accessories till Jan 2, 2016. Anyone looking, this would be the time to buy. Rick F.
  19. I am thinking it will be the last as the weather is head to the cold side and the white stuff wont be far behind it. But yes it is ready to go at a moments notice or urge.. Rick F.
  20. I took what appears to be my final motorcycle ride of the season here in Minnesota as it was a nice 60 degree sunny day. Was able to get just a bit under 100 miles in and topped out the tank with seafoam and good gas. I would have gone more but yard work was calling and needed to be finished. I still have it sitting ready to ride again if I have another sunny day I might get take it out again as it isnt very often we get motorcycle riding up here in November. Rick F.
  21. At one time Progressive Suspension had a replacement shock set up for the 1st Gens but they have dropped it from their line. You might be able to find a left over at one of the online sources or maybe a used one off of Ebay. They also made a spring replacement for the stock shock and I have seen those show up on ebay more then the complete shock does. Good Luck Rick F.
  22. If you are still in Indy, you might check with them and see if they have one in stock. PartShark.com 6926 E. 16th St. Indianapolis IN 46219 Phone: 1-877-999-5686 (9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Mon-Fri Eastern Std. Time) or try Flat out Motorcycles, 8118 E. Washington Street Indianapolis, IN 46219 Phone: (317) 890-9110 Just a couple of local places to try in Indy area. Rick F.
  23. I just check and Partshark is showing a speedometer cable still available. 1 Speedometer Cable Ass''y 26H-83550-01-00 $19.36 Hope this helps.
  24. I was wondering if you had synced your carbs since installing the Ignitech box. I found I needed to do that after installing the Ignitech and that seemed to help a bit with throttle response for me. Check yours and see if that helps. Rick F.
