  1. Here is a link to a video that Jay Leno made for his show on riding the Tilting Motor Works leaning trike kit. Rick F.
  2. yes you are looking for EBC FA123HH. I picked up a set off of Amazon a month ago for a good priced shipped to my door. Here is a link to what I ordered.. http://www.amazon.com/EBC-Double-H-Sintered-Brake-FA123HH/dp/B000GRZIJ0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_bia_detailpage_o00_s00 28.20 a set shipped to my door. Rick F
  3. Make sure it is the light and not the switch on the trunk that is broken. I had it break on my 89. The best way to test it is to bypass the switch and see if the bulbs light that way. Rick F.
  4. The trick to getting the stator cover back on is to get some threaded rod the same size as the bolts and cut them long enough to use as guides so that you can tread it into the bolt holes in about 3 places and then slide the cover on and install the bolts in the remaining holes and then remove the threaded rod and install the remain bolts. This was the strong magnets cant move the cover around on you as you are aligning it up. Rick F.
  5. Both are still showing available from Yamaha also if you need new ones. Partshark has the for $71.65 each. Rick F.
  6. The 89 VR only came in two colors, Graceful Maroon or the Dark Blue Cocktail as Yamaha called them. I have the Maroon two tone one myself. Rick F.
  7. Yes the MK1 caliper are different from the MK2 calipers as the MK1a are twin piston caliper while the MK2s are 4 piston calipers. Those should fit you 88 VR but not the 83 or 84 VR. The MK1s take the FA88 type of pad with the ending letter being what material the pads are made from. I hope that helps you out. Rick F.
  8. Ran across this story and thought I would share it here. Not too many of these guys left today.. http://www.stripes.com/news/veterans/native-american-who-served-as-code-talker-during-wwii-dies-at-92-1.401865 Rick F.
  9. your no vacuum could be cause by a clogged vacuum passage. You might try to shotgun the carb with some carb cleaner. Here is a link to a PDF that talks about doing it on a Vmax which of course will work on our bikes also. http://v4musclebike.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7696 I have done it to mine with a vacuum issue and is does work. Good luck. Rick F.
  10. I have owned the following Yamahas .. 74 DT125 enduro 77 1/2 XS750 triple 80 XJ650 Maxim 1 89 Venture Royale
  11. A quick google search yield this.... importer is http://www.amsportworks.com they do show a part list on their website. I also found a user manual.. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwi4_unsjcnLAhXD2R4KHSVsBBsQFgg3MAQ&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.homedepot.com%2Fcatalog%2FpdfImages%2F3d%2F3db5f494-5027-45c1-b4c3-f31bbc8cbedd.pdf&usg=AFQjCNHvRk4UQSdQxVhe1MxRe0pM5qLOFg&bvm=bv.117218890,d.dmo This being made in China, I am not how easy it will be to get parts here in the USA. Good luck.. Rick F.
  12. Just thought I would drop a note to the group as I spoke to the Manager at Partshark and he informed me they had replaced most of the staff there do to the poor service they will giving. I was calling as I had placed an order yesterday and forgot about a couple of items I need to add to it and he was very accommodating and asked how I had heard about Partshark.com. So I informed him about this site and how he was one of the parts sources that was recommended as a reliable source with good prices. He sounded surprised to hear that in a way and I gave him some of the details on the site and it sounded like he was going to check it out. I also gave them your name Don, as they were interested in who ran the site and I did tell him about the vendor list we have here. Not sure if you will hear from him or not Don. Anyway, if you had a previous unpleasant experience with them, you might want to try them again and he did also state that Yamaha is doing better about shipping parts to them quicker which gets them to us quicker. Thanks Rick F.
  13. Has any used the Keyster Carb kit Part# K-1359YK from SCI yet? http://www.siriusconinc.com/pro-detail.php?pid=&product_id=120729 I was looking it over as I have a spare set of carbs that I would like to totally rebuild and install on my 89 VR. Looking over the parts list I noticed that the main jet on my 89 is an 80 while the kit includes a main jet of 90. Luckly the main jet is still available from Yamaha if needed. The kit does include the correct pilot jet in it. Just curious if anyone has used the kit yet? Thanks Rick F.
  14. I was emailing with SCI and found out they are still honoring the group buy pricing on the XVZ13 carb diaphragms. I didnt inquirer as to the price of them but wanted to remind everyone of this. Also they are not offering any other discount to the group on any other items. http://www.siriusconinc.com/pro-detail.php?pid=&product_id=1794 I was also asking about the intake carb holders as they list them. They are showing two different part numbers for them with two different prices and I was curious to the difference in them and was told by them that they are the same and seem to be manufactured by the same people. The difference is they source the Keyster one direct and the higher priced one they dont. Hope this helps out some of the newer members as Sirius has a lot of parts that are not available from Yamaha anymore. Rick F.
  15. You might recommend that he takes a refresher course and then the both of you taking an advanced riding course together where you use your own bikes. By doing it together you are not telling him he cant handle the bike but the both of you are just brushing up on your skills. That might help him understand what this bike can do and what his skill level is really at plus lets you see it also. Plus an instructor might be able to tell him constructively that he needs to work on certain skills. Just a thought, but I guess it depends on the guy and how he reacts to being told things. Good luck Rick F.
  16. Look at this from the tech library, http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?10518-Clutch-Upgrade , it is for a second gen but works for the MKII. I replaced my half disk and plate with full size ones and that did away with the wire that retains the half hight ones. I also scuffed up my plates with a cross hatch pattern with some fine sandpaper to give them a little more bit. Hope that helps but you can also refer to the service manual in the tech forum also. The one thing to watch out for is when you torque the botls down, make sure you use an inch pound torque wrench as it is a fairly small amount. Rick F.
  17. Have you taken the cover off of the airbox and seen what is underneath with all the wires and fused going into the cover. I would be curious as to what is in the airbox also or if there are some activators in there also. You might PM the gentleman in the older post, Poledar, and see if he has anything on the Tugs as he did mention he was installing one on his 86 VR. On another thought here, if you are having a hard time getting the bike to run correctly, and unable to get any information on the Tugs system, I would look at getting a set of stock carbs and maniford tubes and getting it running correctly that way so you are not fighting this mod. It sounds like the carbs may have been modified for this to work properly. Good luck and if you need a hand, let me know as I am not that far away from you.. Rick F.
  18. share some pictures with us would help. The electronic on the airbox could be that the ignition control box could have been moved to get it away from the heat of the engine. I found this on the Tugs Induction System in a previous post. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?20950-What-gas-mileage-do-you-get/page8 I am not aware of this setup myself. Good luck. Rick F
  19. Thanks, but this is the place where we had a group buy on carb diaphragms a while back and I noticed that they carry a large selection of replacement parts for the Ventures. It is a good site to book mark for future reference. Rick F.
  20. Check out this link from SCI up in Ontario, http://www.siriusconinc.com/pro-detail.php?pid=&product_id=7591 . They are show a bag of 10 for $12 Hope that helps. Rick F.
  21. I have been on Needles Highway and have meet full size tour buses in the eye of the needle. I asked the gate attendant and he said that they regularly get tour buses on Needles Highway and the tunnel in the needle is just big enough to let them thru. Needless to say it took us about an hour before we could get thru on our motorcycles as the buses had traffic backed up for miles behind them and it is a single land tunnel so it is a first come first go type of deal. So maybe an RV could make it thru if you felt comfortable doing it and didn't mind a scrap or two.. Rick F.
  22. Not sure what bike you are doing this one but I found that just replacing the pressure plate spring with an EBC one, on my 89 VR and then cross hatching the plates and just resoaking the friction plates in oil made a big different and stop the higher engine speed slippage I was having. If you have a pre 86 VR they use springs on each bolt. Here is an article from the tech library, it is for a second gen but it is the same setup, http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?10518-Clutch-Upgrade. The removal of the half disk is just replaces with a full disk is all and is a standard part. Rick F.
  23. If you are talking the badlands as in South Dakota, I would hope you would include the Black Hills and Mt. Rushmore. I would also take in Devils Tower in Wy and they have a nice KOA just outside the park entrance also. There is a lot of see in the Black Hills even without the tourist traps. Rick F.
  24. I replaced the lines on my 89 a number of years ago and I can tell you it made a big difference in how the bike stopped. The original lines where old and swelling when pressure was applied but not anymore. Took some getting used to as it was very easy to lock up the front tire in a panic stop so be prepared to practice a bit with the new setup to get a better feel for it. I didnt de-link the brakes as I felt the new step up was performing well. I did rebuild the calipers and master cylinders when I replaced all the rubber lines with Steel braided hoses. I used another vendors setup at the time as I dont believe Skydoc was selling his yet and the setup I used only replaced the factory hoses. Good luck. Rick F.
  25. West Yellowstone is the Western entrance and has numerous hotel and camping options there. It can be hard to get accommodations in the park as a lot of them fill up over a year in advance. Also some of the park campgrounds are hard sided required sites due to bear issues. This is especially true around the fishing bridge area and has usually been a good area to see bears at. Good luck and enjoy the trip. Rick F.
