  1. What so the instruction say for you Barnett disks. I have not installed those so I cant offer any advise on those. Try them and see what happens is about all I can say.. Maybe one of the other member can offer some advise on them. Rick F.
  2. Actually a lot of us replace the half disk and steel plate with a full size and do away with the wire. Check out this post and you can use it for a reference even though it is for a 2nd gen.. there isnt that much difference between them. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?10518-Clutch-Upgrade Rick F.
  3. When you reinstall that clutch, make sure you line the disk up correctly as from looking at the picture the previous owner didnt have it correct. Make sure the notches in the disk match up with the basket. The outer disk is in the correct spot the others arent. Rick F.
  4. I installed the COP on my 89 last year and have not regretted it once. The bike is starting easier and just run better all around. I did not install the load resistors as I have the Ignitech system to install on the bike but with the stock TCI, no issues to report. I have future plans to remove the coil and TCI bracket and move my AGM battery to that location. I also keep the air defectors about the cylinder heads and made some holes in them to hold the COP in place so they wouldnt move around. Good luck. Rick F.
  5. The EBC part number for the rear brake rotor is MD2049 for the 86-93 Ventures. I know they had different part numbers for the front ones in older catalogs. Hope this helps. Rick F.
  6. For a radiator cap you can use these also... Radiator cap Stant 11227 or 227. (It has a spec.of 13lbs pressure) Autozone cap CST 7513 Here is some information I have gathered over the years on replacement hoses... I cant attest to if these work but it might be a starting point.. Front Cylinder Gates # 11601 /Napa -Rear Cylinder Gates # 09821 /NAPA -Upper rad. hose Gates # 8722/NAPA -S hose under the rad. Gates # 20521 /Napa 7333 If you do use any of these hoses, let us know how it goes.. Thanks Rick F.
  7. the auto store replacement will last for a bit but I found the the OEM ones or replacements meant for a motorcycle seems to hold up better. I got my replacements from Yamaha but I see that Sirius Consolidated, http://www.siriusconinc.com, also have replacement caps. Good luck.. Rick F.
  8. one other thing to check is to make sure the connection for the wire is clean and tight. On my 89 it is a pin on the back of the sending unit and not a spade connector and it had a loose connection with intermittent connection. I reshaped the connector and cleaned the pin and connector and that seemed to resolve the issue. Hope that helps. Rick F.
  9. Welcome to the site. I would download the service manual that is located in the tech section for the 1st Gen. http://labs.trunkful.com/vrmanuals/index.cfm Look at that as the throttle cable is a 2 piece affair as the cruise control cable attaches on the left side of the fairing as you are sitting on the bike. I havent replaced it myself but have seen the junction box for the cables. Also look at the parts diaphragm as it will show the parts you might need. I use the one from Partshark.com since I buy from them a lot. Good luck and ask more questions here. Rick F.
  10. I would check the plug wires and caps first. How are are they and how do they ohm out? Rick F.
  11. Cant make this one as I will be on vacation that weekend. Rick F.
  12. I havent put any air into my front forks since installing the Progressive Springs in my 89 VR. I would look at the solenoids as I agree that it sound like the front one isnt closing when you try to pump up the rear. Rick F.
  13. The TCI is located under the battery box along with the coils. I would install the resistor inline with the wire and connect it to the screw just on the steering side of the fuse panel. Right off the top of my head, I dont remember the resistor size but it is in one of the post here or in the tech section. There is also a PDF of the service manual in the tech section also that you might want to download as it can be a big help to you also. Rick F.
  14. The wiring is also different. the 86 uses 4 pickups the 90-93 use a single one. You should be able to reflash the unit if you have all the software that was sent with the Ingitech unit. I have a unit for a 91 and am looking for the cables for an 86-89 unit, maybe we can work out a trade. Let me know. Rick F.
  15. Here is a link to a video that Jay Leno made for his show on riding the Tilting Motor Works leaning trike kit. Rick F.
  16. yes you are looking for EBC FA123HH. I picked up a set off of Amazon a month ago for a good priced shipped to my door. Here is a link to what I ordered.. http://www.amazon.com/EBC-Double-H-Sintered-Brake-FA123HH/dp/B000GRZIJ0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_bia_detailpage_o00_s00 28.20 a set shipped to my door. Rick F
  17. Make sure it is the light and not the switch on the trunk that is broken. I had it break on my 89. The best way to test it is to bypass the switch and see if the bulbs light that way. Rick F.
  18. The trick to getting the stator cover back on is to get some threaded rod the same size as the bolts and cut them long enough to use as guides so that you can tread it into the bolt holes in about 3 places and then slide the cover on and install the bolts in the remaining holes and then remove the threaded rod and install the remain bolts. This was the strong magnets cant move the cover around on you as you are aligning it up. Rick F.
  19. Both are still showing available from Yamaha also if you need new ones. Partshark has the for $71.65 each. Rick F.
  20. The 89 VR only came in two colors, Graceful Maroon or the Dark Blue Cocktail as Yamaha called them. I have the Maroon two tone one myself. Rick F.
  21. Yes the MK1 caliper are different from the MK2 calipers as the MK1a are twin piston caliper while the MK2s are 4 piston calipers. Those should fit you 88 VR but not the 83 or 84 VR. The MK1s take the FA88 type of pad with the ending letter being what material the pads are made from. I hope that helps you out. Rick F.
  22. Ran across this story and thought I would share it here. Not too many of these guys left today.. http://www.stripes.com/news/veterans/native-american-who-served-as-code-talker-during-wwii-dies-at-92-1.401865 Rick F.
  23. your no vacuum could be cause by a clogged vacuum passage. You might try to shotgun the carb with some carb cleaner. Here is a link to a PDF that talks about doing it on a Vmax which of course will work on our bikes also. http://v4musclebike.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7696 I have done it to mine with a vacuum issue and is does work. Good luck. Rick F.
  24. I have owned the following Yamahas .. 74 DT125 enduro 77 1/2 XS750 triple 80 XJ650 Maxim 1 89 Venture Royale
