  1. The EBC part number for the rear brake rotor is MD2049 for the 86-93 Ventures. I know they had different part numbers for the front ones in older catalogs. Hope this helps. Rick F.
  2. For a radiator cap you can use these also... Radiator cap Stant 11227 or 227. (It has a spec.of 13lbs pressure) Autozone cap CST 7513 Here is some information I have gathered over the years on replacement hoses... I cant attest to if these work but it might be a starting point.. Front Cylinder Gates # 11601 /Napa -Rear Cylinder Gates # 09821 /NAPA -Upper rad. hose Gates # 8722/NAPA -S hose under the rad. Gates # 20521 /Napa 7333 If you do use any of these hoses, let us know how it goes.. Thanks Rick F.
  3. the auto store replacement will last for a bit but I found the the OEM ones or replacements meant for a motorcycle seems to hold up better. I got my replacements from Yamaha but I see that Sirius Consolidated, http://www.siriusconinc.com, also have replacement caps. Good luck.. Rick F.
  4. one other thing to check is to make sure the connection for the wire is clean and tight. On my 89 it is a pin on the back of the sending unit and not a spade connector and it had a loose connection with intermittent connection. I reshaped the connector and cleaned the pin and connector and that seemed to resolve the issue. Hope that helps. Rick F.
  5. Welcome to the site. I would download the service manual that is located in the tech section for the 1st Gen. http://labs.trunkful.com/vrmanuals/index.cfm Look at that as the throttle cable is a 2 piece affair as the cruise control cable attaches on the left side of the fairing as you are sitting on the bike. I havent replaced it myself but have seen the junction box for the cables. Also look at the parts diaphragm as it will show the parts you might need. I use the one from Partshark.com since I buy from them a lot. Good luck and ask more questions here. Rick F.
  6. I would check the plug wires and caps first. How are are they and how do they ohm out? Rick F.
  7. Cant make this one as I will be on vacation that weekend. Rick F.
  8. I havent put any air into my front forks since installing the Progressive Springs in my 89 VR. I would look at the solenoids as I agree that it sound like the front one isnt closing when you try to pump up the rear. Rick F.
  9. The TCI is located under the battery box along with the coils. I would install the resistor inline with the wire and connect it to the screw just on the steering side of the fuse panel. Right off the top of my head, I dont remember the resistor size but it is in one of the post here or in the tech section. There is also a PDF of the service manual in the tech section also that you might want to download as it can be a big help to you also. Rick F.
  10. The wiring is also different. the 86 uses 4 pickups the 90-93 use a single one. You should be able to reflash the unit if you have all the software that was sent with the Ingitech unit. I have a unit for a 91 and am looking for the cables for an 86-89 unit, maybe we can work out a trade. Let me know. Rick F.
  11. Here is a link to a video that Jay Leno made for his show on riding the Tilting Motor Works leaning trike kit. Rick F.
  12. yes you are looking for EBC FA123HH. I picked up a set off of Amazon a month ago for a good priced shipped to my door. Here is a link to what I ordered.. http://www.amazon.com/EBC-Double-H-Sintered-Brake-FA123HH/dp/B000GRZIJ0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_bia_detailpage_o00_s00 28.20 a set shipped to my door. Rick F
  13. Make sure it is the light and not the switch on the trunk that is broken. I had it break on my 89. The best way to test it is to bypass the switch and see if the bulbs light that way. Rick F.
  14. The trick to getting the stator cover back on is to get some threaded rod the same size as the bolts and cut them long enough to use as guides so that you can tread it into the bolt holes in about 3 places and then slide the cover on and install the bolts in the remaining holes and then remove the threaded rod and install the remain bolts. This was the strong magnets cant move the cover around on you as you are aligning it up. Rick F.
  15. Both are still showing available from Yamaha also if you need new ones. Partshark has the for $71.65 each. Rick F.
  16. The 89 VR only came in two colors, Graceful Maroon or the Dark Blue Cocktail as Yamaha called them. I have the Maroon two tone one myself. Rick F.
  17. Yes the MK1 caliper are different from the MK2 calipers as the MK1a are twin piston caliper while the MK2s are 4 piston calipers. Those should fit you 88 VR but not the 83 or 84 VR. The MK1s take the FA88 type of pad with the ending letter being what material the pads are made from. I hope that helps you out. Rick F.
  18. Ran across this story and thought I would share it here. Not too many of these guys left today.. http://www.stripes.com/news/veterans/native-american-who-served-as-code-talker-during-wwii-dies-at-92-1.401865 Rick F.
  19. your no vacuum could be cause by a clogged vacuum passage. You might try to shotgun the carb with some carb cleaner. Here is a link to a PDF that talks about doing it on a Vmax which of course will work on our bikes also. http://v4musclebike.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7696 I have done it to mine with a vacuum issue and is does work. Good luck. Rick F.
  20. I have owned the following Yamahas .. 74 DT125 enduro 77 1/2 XS750 triple 80 XJ650 Maxim 1 89 Venture Royale
  21. A quick google search yield this.... importer is http://www.amsportworks.com they do show a part list on their website. I also found a user manual.. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwi4_unsjcnLAhXD2R4KHSVsBBsQFgg3MAQ&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.homedepot.com%2Fcatalog%2FpdfImages%2F3d%2F3db5f494-5027-45c1-b4c3-f31bbc8cbedd.pdf&usg=AFQjCNHvRk4UQSdQxVhe1MxRe0pM5qLOFg&bvm=bv.117218890,d.dmo This being made in China, I am not how easy it will be to get parts here in the USA. Good luck.. Rick F.
  22. Just thought I would drop a note to the group as I spoke to the Manager at Partshark and he informed me they had replaced most of the staff there do to the poor service they will giving. I was calling as I had placed an order yesterday and forgot about a couple of items I need to add to it and he was very accommodating and asked how I had heard about Partshark.com. So I informed him about this site and how he was one of the parts sources that was recommended as a reliable source with good prices. He sounded surprised to hear that in a way and I gave him some of the details on the site and it sounded like he was going to check it out. I also gave them your name Don, as they were interested in who ran the site and I did tell him about the vendor list we have here. Not sure if you will hear from him or not Don. Anyway, if you had a previous unpleasant experience with them, you might want to try them again and he did also state that Yamaha is doing better about shipping parts to them quicker which gets them to us quicker. Thanks Rick F.
  23. Has any used the Keyster Carb kit Part# K-1359YK from SCI yet? http://www.siriusconinc.com/pro-detail.php?pid=&product_id=120729 I was looking it over as I have a spare set of carbs that I would like to totally rebuild and install on my 89 VR. Looking over the parts list I noticed that the main jet on my 89 is an 80 while the kit includes a main jet of 90. Luckly the main jet is still available from Yamaha if needed. The kit does include the correct pilot jet in it. Just curious if anyone has used the kit yet? Thanks Rick F.
  24. I was emailing with SCI and found out they are still honoring the group buy pricing on the XVZ13 carb diaphragms. I didnt inquirer as to the price of them but wanted to remind everyone of this. Also they are not offering any other discount to the group on any other items. http://www.siriusconinc.com/pro-detail.php?pid=&product_id=1794 I was also asking about the intake carb holders as they list them. They are showing two different part numbers for them with two different prices and I was curious to the difference in them and was told by them that they are the same and seem to be manufactured by the same people. The difference is they source the Keyster one direct and the higher priced one they dont. Hope this helps out some of the newer members as Sirius has a lot of parts that are not available from Yamaha anymore. Rick F.
