  1. yes just as the picture shows on the website, http://www.factorypro.com/Prod_Pages/prody11.html, the casting circle on the jet in the lower middle is like the picture shows. the cut out on the float is level with the top of the circle. The upper right circle bottom is level with the top of the float. This is a good starting point for setting the float level. Rick F.
  2. Ebay as a couple for sale... http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/252380083836?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true not available from Yamaha so I would get these if you needed them badly.. Rick F.
  3. Syncing the carbs does help but also check the caps on the vacuum ports as they can have cracks and leak also. With a sync tool it will also let you know if you have some vacuum issue with the carbs and if they have never been off then I would strongly suggest a good cleaning and rebuild. Sirius Consolidated, Inc in Canada, https://www.siriusconinc.com has carb kits and parts for our bikes and can supply most of the parts for the rebuild. The rest you will need to order from Yamaha as no one else has them and yes unfortunately the needle valves for the VR 1300 are not available. Hope this helps some and good luck. Rick F.
  4. Here is a word doc on how to decode the Yamaha part number to determine when size and type bolt, nut, screw it is. This should help you some. Also I would attach or at least cover the carb openings with something so that a stray bolt or nut doesn't find its way into a carb and then into the cylinder and cause some damage. I also have a 1990 VR assemble manual in PDF format that is too big to attach but I could email that to you also. It was used by the dealerships to assemble the bikes when they were received from Yamaha. It isnt the same year as your 86 but for the most part it is the same bike as yours. Good luck as you have your work cut out for you. Rick F. Thought this part number decoder might be useful.docx
  5. http://www.bbc.com/news/38293294 Here is a nice story about Santa and a dying boys last wish. Rick F.
  6. How soon do you need it out to him? I do have a little experience with this type of car if it has a 6-pack on it also. I would think a car this valuable I would want to use an enclosed trailer and an experience and insured hauler. I have heard some good things about Passport, https://www.passporttransport.com/ Or check out this site for recommendation for some different carriers. https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/articles/2012/11/29/transporting-your-classic Good luck and if you really need it driven out there. Just PM me but no guarantee on how much tread will be left on the rear tires when I get there.. Rick F.
  7. Gary, it is my understanding that the 83-85 needles are different from the 86-93 in that the clip that holds the needle in postion is adjustable on the 83-85 due to different slots cut around the top of the needle. The 86-93 only have the one slot for the clip. I know I and a bunch of others removed the plastic spacer and replaced it with washers that when stacked were shorter then the plastic spacer. This was to lean out the motor a bit due to it running rich and getting a carbon buildup at the end of the mufflers. I am planning on one of my winter/spring projects is a complete rebuild of the carbs on my 89VR as I doubt it has ever been done. I have replaced the diaphragms and did the shotgun cleaning on the carbs but it is time for a total cleaning and rebuild. Hope this helps you. Rick F.
  8. Gary, are you saying the jet needles themselves are different lengths to each other? Looking at the parts listing, it appears they are all the same part number no matter which carb then go into. I was wonder if you can see any writing up near the top of the jet needles that might indicate what needles they are. It is my understand that there is a part number on the jet needles them self. My service manual mentions 5DZ3-1 with the needle jet being a Y-0. This is for the 86-93 Venture. I did do a search on the Mikuni 5DZ3-1 jet needles and one of the docs had total length for a 5DZ3 jet needle as 50.50 MM in total length. Hope this helps, I do have a spare set of carbs here that I could pull a part and check the needles if that helps you... Rick F.
  9. you might want to check out the rubber jet block plugs on the jet block. I would suggest you replace those with new ones as they can cause issue. These are item number 41 and 41 in the parts diagram. Hope that helps. Rick F.
  10. What stator did you end up buying if you dont mind me asking. Thanks Rick F.
  11. Go here and download the service manual for the 1300 VR. http://labs.trunkful.com/vrmanuals/index.cfm There are number section in the back for testing electrical components to verify if they are good or not. Looking at the prices for that ebay stator and regulator, seems a little cheap in price and maybe some China junk. Test your components first and see if they really need replacing but I would look into replacing your fuse block with a more modern spade fuse block as a lot of us have done here to our VRs. You might just need to clean the connectors as the bike is 28 years old. Good luck Rick F.
  12. Always check the kill switch when the bike wont start. I dont know how many time it just jumps there on its own.. Rick F.
  13. I ended up installing a Clear view windshield on my 89 VR. I ordered the GT25 with the adjustable vent and a gray tint and enjoy riding behind it. I am 6ft and with the stock seat it was a good height for me. Here is the URL to the site. http://www.clearviewshields.com/motorcycle-windshield/yamaha/venture-royale-1983-1993-shields/ Sorry I cant help you with the stock height but 15.5 inches seems a little low to me. Hope that helps Rick F.
  14. There are parts on ebay as of now. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-Venture-XVZ-1200-Off-1983-XVZ1200-carburetor-mikuni-mount-rails-/351456907325?hash=item51d476d03d:g:icwAAOSwHnFVqBIA&vxp=mtr Rick F.
  15. I have a Mills Fleet Farm relabeled Deka AGM for my 89 and I have just got into the habit of putting a smart charger on it when the bike has been sitting for a while. I am using a BatteryMinder Plus model 12117. I believe this is a discontinued item as Northern Tool had a heck of a buy on them last Black Friday. My battery is about 5 years old and hasnt cause me on bit of trouble. Rick F.
  16. They are very important and are still available from Yamaha. What you need is parts 4 & 5 from the oil filter parts fiche. Here is a link from Partshark.com to the proper page. http://www.partshark.com/oemparts/a/yam/5107f835f870022108d65768/oil-filter You can order from them or just check your local dealer and see if he has them in stock but I will do it sooner then later. Welcome to the group. Rick F.
  17. I would suggest check the other plugs to make sure they are there also just in case you need to order all 4. These are fairly easy to access. The easiest way I have found to pull them out is with the terminal end of a spark plug. Remove the cap to wear you just have the treaded end of the spark plug and it will screw into the plugs in the cylinder jacks and then give it a pull and out comes the plug. Just remember there is coolant behind the plug. Good luck. Rick F.
  18. Sounds like you will need to rebuild the slave cylinder for the clutch as that most likely is the issue. Happens to us all and it isnt too bad to fix but you must pull off the middle gear cover on the back left of the engine. If you have the service manual for the website here, then look under the Chas section and the Hydraulic Clutch and it will show you how to do it. I would recommend getting the parts before you start so you can do it in a day. You will need to drain the oil as the Middle Gear case cover has oil behind it. So you will need to get a gasket for that. Here is a couple of links for more information on how to do it.. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?116337-Clutch-Hydraulic-Rebuild-Tutorial http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?66302-Slave-Cylinder-Replacement' Check those out and let us know if you have more questions Rick F.
  19. Clay, have you double checked the plugs on the vacuum ports on the carbs to make sure they are not cracked and leaking. I have an ignitech replacement ignition system we could try on your bike and see how it performs. It has a MAP sensor and doesnt use the stock pressure sensor. You might want to make sure the restrictor is still in line from the #2 carb vacuum port to the pressure sensor. It is located near the carb. You might also want to check the conditions of the electrical connectors and make sure they are clean. A good thing to try is some contact cleaner on them to make sure they have a good connection. I would do this to the pressure sensor connections and the TCI box connections. Let me know if you would like to try the Ignitech unit. Rick F.
  20. Another place to get carb parts and others for the Venture is at Sirius Consolidated Inc out of Canada. Here is a link for the Venture items they sell. http://www.siriusconinc.com/search_result.php?make=2&model=Venture%20Royale&part=All&partno=&x=56&y=16&search=search&start=25 They also have the diaphragms (SD-1) which if you mention that you are a Venturerider.org member they will discount for you. On the jet, you might need to look in the parts manual to see what is the stock jet, http://www.partshark.com/oemparts/a/yam/50042b41f8700209bc78980a/carburetor and see which jet it is and what the size is suppose to be. Hope that helps Rick F.
  21. I used the air shields on my 89 VR to hold the COPs in place better. I cut a bigger hole in the rubber around where the COPs drop thru and that seems to be working to hold them in place. Rick F.
  22. What so the instruction say for you Barnett disks. I have not installed those so I cant offer any advise on those. Try them and see what happens is about all I can say.. Maybe one of the other member can offer some advise on them. Rick F.
  23. Actually a lot of us replace the half disk and steel plate with a full size and do away with the wire. Check out this post and you can use it for a reference even though it is for a 2nd gen.. there isnt that much difference between them. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?10518-Clutch-Upgrade Rick F.
  24. When you reinstall that clutch, make sure you line the disk up correctly as from looking at the picture the previous owner didnt have it correct. Make sure the notches in the disk match up with the basket. The outer disk is in the correct spot the others arent. Rick F.
  25. I installed the COP on my 89 last year and have not regretted it once. The bike is starting easier and just run better all around. I did not install the load resistors as I have the Ignitech system to install on the bike but with the stock TCI, no issues to report. I have future plans to remove the coil and TCI bracket and move my AGM battery to that location. I also keep the air defectors about the cylinder heads and made some holes in them to hold the COP in place so they wouldnt move around. Good luck. Rick F.
