  1. I thought I just let you know that there are some NOS Ventureline accessories listed on Ebay still in the original packaging. Not posting links so that we can keep it listed here in the 1st Gen section I hope. Rick F.
  2. When you checked the starter clutch with the stator cover off, did you can see how the starter is engaging the gears and if it is in fact spinning the gears and the crankshaft? And if it is spinning, then how fast was it spinning the crankshaft? Did you have this issue with the old starter when it was in the bike? Also, how is the battery in the bike, fully charged when you try to start it Just trying to gather a little bit more information as it isnt a sound I have heard out of my bike when starting and I need to replace the stator starting clutch as is it slipping when it starts. Let us know please.. Rick F.
  3. First thing I would do is either download a copy of the service manual for the 86-93 Venture Royale motorcycle from this link.. https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?3384-First-Gen-Service-Manuals or buy one from Ebay, as they do come up from time to time in the paper version. It is what most of use to do service work on our VRs. Look it over and dont be afraid to ask questions or do a search for things. Also if you havent located it yet, check out the Tech library for more information on maintaining the bikes. Your bike is what we call a 1st Gen MK2, this covers 1986-1993, the 1983-1985 are 1st Gen MK1. There are some parts that interchange and looking at a parts diagram is a good way to see if it is possible. I use Parts Shark as they have good prices.. https://www.partshark.com/oemparts/c/yamaha_motorcycle/parts There are sources for parts for the bikes besides the dealers but it might require some searching or checking out the forums here as we usually share things we find with each other. I hope you enjoy the VR as much as I do and it gives you years of riding enjoyment. Welcome to the site.. Rick F.
  4. I purchased my antenna, cables and mounting studs from Walcott Radio in Walcott, Iowa. The are across I-80 from the Worlds Largest Truck Stop, I-80 Truck Stop just outside of the Quad Cities. https://www.walcottradio.com/ They have an antenna fold over adapter that I used for both of my FireStik antennas on my 89. https://www.walcottradio.com/antenna-fold-over-adapter-203ez-p-262.html If you dont have a CB shop local, which there arent many left, try a local truck stop as they still have CB equipment and accessories on the shelves. I was able to find shorter length coax that fit on the bike and was easier to hide then the standard 18ft cables. I have not set my SWR yet but then I havent had much need to use the CB yet either. Hope this helps a bit... Rick F.
  5. I mounted two Firestik antennas on the back of my 89. I did convert the luggage rack to an 87 as they came with the mounts on both sides for the antenna holder. I then ran a separate wire up to the radio and then a separate wire for the CB. This allowed me to remove the spliter that is attached to the CB and run the CB line into it directly. I would recommend the 3 foot Firestik as I have 4 foot on mine and think they stick up a little too high for my taste. You will also need a 90 degree connection for under the antenna to make a neater setup. Do a search here on the Marshall Mod here on for more information on it. I hope this helps Rick F.
  6. Just a quick search on google turned up some links... https://www.bar-nunn.com/wyoming-prairie-dog-hunt/ https://qcreek.com/prairie-dog-hunting/ http://www.huntvarmints.com/index_files/Page344.htm http://www.ultimateprairiedoghunting.com/usa/wyoming/ Sounds like a fun time.. Rick F.
  7. It looks good to me and I wouldnt be concerned about it. They seal is on the correct end as the book isnt also the most accurate on some of the diagrams. I would replace it with a new one as it does keep the gear lube in rear end. I would also grease the spines on the other end before you slide it back into the u-joint yoke. Hope that helps. Rick F.
  8. This is the coolant joint and it is located under the right side of the bike right behind the radiator side cover trim If you notice the single round pin on the lower part of the coolant joint, that is where the temp gauge connects. Make sure it is clean and the connector makes a tight connection and see if that fixes your issue. Rick Fink. [h=1][/h]

    SeaFoam

I have been buying Seafoam in the gallon can. I usually get it at Menards when they have their 11% off sales. Works out to less than $7.00 a pint. I have kept some of the used can and transfer it to them so I can transport it easier also. Rick F.

    SeaFoam

I have been using Seafoam for years now in all my small engines and motorcycle. I always make sure to store the engines with Seafoam in the tank and I havent had any issues getting them to start right up at the first of the season. I also add seafoam to any gas I bring home for the mowers and such just so it stays good sitting on the shelf thru the season. I know a lot of people up here in Minnesota that swear by it and have used it for years. Rick F.
  11. Check the connection for the temp sending unit to make sure it is connected, clean and tight. It is located on the right side of the engine, up front on the joint that has the two prong fan thermo switch. It is a single prong connection just behind the chrome guard cover. That is the first place I would be checking. Rick F.
  12. I ordered the wider and taller Clearview windshield for the Venture. I also had the vent installed in it and had a gray tinted to it and enjoy it very much. I do look thru the windshield but I dont find that an issue with it effecting my vision. The vent adds a lot of air flow when I am riding on hot days and it is adjustable to the amount of air flow. I am not sure if they are still offering the windshields for the 1st Gen Ventures still or not but it might be worth a call to them to see. If you like to see how it looks on the bike I would be happy to post a photo of it for you also. Good luck Rick F.
  13. I haven't de-linked my 89 brakes but I did rebuild all the master cylinders, calipers, clutch slave and also replaced all the rubber brake lines with steel braided hoses. I have no trouble locking up both wheels if I apply the brakes too fast and all at once. I personally think that replacing the old worn out rubber brake lines is one of the best improvements that can be made to the brake system. Before I replaced them, I could grab a brake line and apply the brakes and feel the hose expand in my hands. To me this translated to loose of braking pressure and volume to the calipers and attributed to less braking action. Just my 2 cents worth.. Rick F.
  14. The last set of pads I put in my bike were these EBC V-Pads. https://ebcbrakes.com/product/sintered-brake-pads/ Made for the heavy cruisers and touring bikes. I have been happy with them so far and they do a good job of stopping my bike. Hope this helps. Rick F.
  15. I looked around but couldnt find any torque specs for the caliper haves. Yamaha doesn't recommend splitting them so they don't list the spec for them. I just used my torque wrench and keep setting it higher and higher till I was able to break one loose. Not the most accurate way but it seemed to work okay as I have had no leakage out of them. Rick F.
  16. I might be a little late on this, but the throttle cable goes on the inside of the starter rod. If it is installed on the outside as shown in the picture, it will cause the throttle cable to hang up and not let the carbs return to idle. I had a buddy who had it on the outside and when we moved it to the proper inside position, then his throttle cable was easier to move and the bike would return to idle when released. Rick F.
  17. Part of it was trial and error.. I helped beta the Partscrafter kit with the guy that owns it and actually I prefer that kit as it gives you new o-rings for the caliper halves. They are not available from Yamaha as they dont want you separating the halves but I like to hone out the bores and make sure they are clean before reassembling them. Plus it is nice to order one item and have everything in one kit to rebuild the front calipers. Good luck Rick F.
  18. I misspoke.. you are correct it is the rear and left front.. Rick F.
  19. Here is what I used last year.. https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?130233-24mm-hex-bit-socket-for-fork-work Hope this helps. Rick F.
  20. I would also add in there, the correct tool to fit any fastening device that you might have changed out for a stock item. ie, replaced some Phillips head screws with allen headed bolts.. Also if on a long trip, a Clutch hand lever is nice, I had a buddy have an issue and dropped his VR and broke the chrome clutch lever off. He was unable to ride the bike even to get it up a hill to the trailer. I ended up removing my clutch lever and installing it on his bike just so we could move it under its own power. We played hell finding one but go lucky at a place that had a parts unlimited one we could cut to get it to fit for the rest of the week. Unfortunately I didn't get the part number off the package before we left so I could share it here.. Rick F.
  21. Here is a Yamaha tech bulletin on the subject of drive shaft maintenance. 1stGen_Final.pdf1stGen_Final.pdf I hope this helps out everyone. When I removed my drive shaft on my 89 VR the spines were very wet with gear oil. I ended up tearing up the seal on the drive shaft and had to replace it before reinstalling it. I dont have any plans to remove the drive shaft from the differential again but when I remove the rear wheel I do grease the spines at the U-joint connection. Rick F.
  22. Another thought is traditional construction with a log looking siding applied to the outside of the structure to make it appear to be a log home. Just a thought.. Good luck Casey... Rick F.
  23. Here is a place selling replacement slides http://www.newmotorcycleparts.net/fuel_system_parts/misc_carb_parts.html still not cheap but $85 a pop. And on ebay there are these.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-Carburetor-Slide-Piston-Valve-Rubber-Diaphragm-V-Max-VMax-Replacement/311897363295?fits=Make%3AYamaha&hash=item489e88135f%3Ag%3AqkAAAOSw7ZRZjcLz%3Asc%3AUSPSFirstClass%2155431%21US%21-1&_sacat=0&_nkw=yamaha+diaphragms&_from=R40&rt=nc&_trksid=m570.l1313 You can also get replace diaphragms from a few different sources too.. http://jbmindustries.com/Yamaha650.html https://www.siriusconinc.com/search_result.php?make=2&model=Venture%20Royale&part=All&partno=&x=56&y=16&search=search&start=25 The Sirius Consolidated Inc was offering the group a special price but I am not sure if that is still in effect and they have a lot of aftermarket replacement parts for the bikes. Good luck.. Rick F.
  24. Glad to hear things are working out for you. The front bulbs should be a 1157 so that would explain the running light but no turn signal function on that corner. Enjoy the ride. Rick F.
  25. I would think it would work ok but you are going to loose the low brake fluid indicator on the CMS panel. It is nothing for them a reservoir for the rear master cylinder. If you are concerned, you most likely could get one off of ebay or ask here and another member might have an extra one they would sell you. Rick F.
