  2. I agree with you and it makes sense why the Royales had the better shock. You should be able then to get a outside spring mounted shock and that should help you out. I think if it was my bike, I would do that and then once I was able to get the Progressive spring shock, then install and run that. That would least help with the sagging you experiencing with the old shock. Good luck. Rick F.
  3. Well 1stGen MKII shocks comes with the black spring as stock. I believe the black rubber you see on the other 1st Gen MKI is a rubber boot that covers the spring. I dont have any experience with those so I am not 100% sure. What you are looking for is exactly what mralex714 has pictured in the the first post. I also believe that any of the 1st gen shocks are interchangeable with each other as checking the parts site it shows the same part number used on all 1st Gen Ventures. When Progressive sold this spring, it was just the spring and no shock. The buyer had to get it installed on the shock and I can only guess how to do that. Buying one already installed is so much easier. It took me over a year to find a shock with a red spring on it on ebay, so just keep looking and they do pop up now and then. But it does make for a nice ride with the progressives in the front and on the rear. Hope this helps. Rick F.
  4. Checking ebay is your best bet as Progressive is no longer making the spring for the rear shock. I found mine by checking the photos on ebay and looking for a red spring on a 1st gen shock and was able to get it fairly cheap. Hope that helps. Rick F.
  5. All the above need to be checked and of course the carbs need to be synced as that does make a difference also. This can let you know if you have a clogged vacuum ports in the carbs or maybe another issue. One of the things to check out is shotgunning the carbs. This amounts to spraying carb cleaner in different vacuum ports on the carbs to help clean them out. Look it up on a search engine as there are numerous articles on how to do it. The Vmax guys do this a lot on their bikes it seems. I am in the 40mph range with lowered needles and sync done a couple times a year and I tend to ride in the 60 to 75 MPH range a lot when I am out riding. Rick F.
  6. You could also turn off DHCP on your PC and assign a static IP address and take that part of the issue out of the picture. I have done that on a couple of my PC so I always know what the IP address is so I can access them remotely from inside my network. If you can access your router you can change what address are available for lease and then use one of the non DHCP address for the PC in question. You will also have to set the default gateway( your routers IP address) and the DNS server IP address also. Hope this helps. Rick F.
  7. It almost sounds like the server you are connecting to or maybe a router you are running thru to get to that server is having an issue. The best way to troubleshoot this is to put a sniffer program on your PC to do a packet capture and see you if get a disconnect message from the server or just what is happening. A freeware one is Wireshark. https://www.wireshark.org/ You will have to have the capture running and then stop and save it right after being disconnected and then have the trace analyzed to see if something shows up on it. Hope this helps some as this issue can be a hard one to pinpoint due to all the variables you are dealing with. Good luck Rick F.
  8. There are some complete fairing pieces on Ebay now that might be the way to go for the cost of them. Check out this one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/83-85-85-84-YAMAHA-VENTURE-XVZ12-XVZ1200-headlight-FAIRING-COWLING-UPPER-right/223420530823?hash=item3404e6c087:g:hSUAAOSwRTxcSwif:rk:12:pf:0&vxp=mtr Hope this helps some.. Good luck. Rick F.
  9. Just thought I would add this to the steam engine information. The Union Pacific Rail Road is just completing a complete rebuild of a 4-8-8-4 Big Boy and will have it back on the rail and under steam May 2019. This is one of the largest steam engines ever produced. Here is a link to the site with more information about it. https://www.up.com/heritage/steam/4014/index.htm Rick F.
  10. That page was setup by a previous member who copied the text and posted it there for us. It appears that the website is no more, so maybe he has stopped using that webpage service. I am not sure if it is something we can post here on the forum or if it is too big to do that. The first gen 86-93 service manual is 22.3 Meg in size. We will have to check with admins and see if it is possible to post here. Rick F.
  11. The issue with LED replacement bulbs is that they arent designed for the reflectors that are built into the headlight or the fluting on the lenses. Sometimes you need to turn the bulb to match the configuration of the bulb you are pulling out. Check out this site for some ideas on replacement LED bulbs. They arent the cheapest out there but then you usually get what you pay for. https://headlightrevolution.com/ I did switch my 89 over to a LED bulb a few years ago and added a set of PIAA LED fog lights and they work great with a nice light pattern and spread but then again, they are designed for a LED bulb. Hope this helps some. Rick F.
  12. how about the thermo coupler or flame sensor being carboned up a bit. Try taking some emery cloth to it and polish it clean. I would do that to my old furnace at the start of the season and it would have no issue. When I forgot to then I would have lighting issue with the main burners. not sure on the fan blower issue but I think you are looking at the correct item.. I had to replace my 24 year old furnace as the control board died on it and was no longer available and the recommended replacement was $1,000 to rewire it in to work.. I just went with a new furnace as you know how important they are up here in the cold north. Good luck.. Rick F.
  13. Here is an auction house in Fowler, Ind that deals in toys and die-cast models. They are located in Western Indiana and might be able to assist you in selling them or determining a value. http://www.toystrainsandotheroldstuff.com/ They do online auction as well as in person ones. Sorry for your loss and good luck. Rick F.
  14. Here is a link to display a lot of the NOS VentureLine accessories that are for sale on ebay right now. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=%22Yamaha+Venture%22&_sop=10&_osacat=0&_ipg=200&_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=%22Yamaha+Venture+Line%22&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=1 I have nothing for sale or any interest in these items. Just sharing with the group. Rick F.
  15. What he said basically.. There was a standard model for the XVZ1200 and the XVZ1300 up to 1988 when all the Venture were Royale models. The basic model did not come with the onboard air compressor for the suspension or the CB/radio setup with the built in intercom system. Motor wise they are the same as well as everything else on the bike not related to the Royale models. I hope that helps. Rick F.
  16. I thought I just let you know that there are some NOS Ventureline accessories listed on Ebay still in the original packaging. Not posting links so that we can keep it listed here in the 1st Gen section I hope. Rick F.
  17. When you checked the starter clutch with the stator cover off, did you can see how the starter is engaging the gears and if it is in fact spinning the gears and the crankshaft? And if it is spinning, then how fast was it spinning the crankshaft? Did you have this issue with the old starter when it was in the bike? Also, how is the battery in the bike, fully charged when you try to start it Just trying to gather a little bit more information as it isnt a sound I have heard out of my bike when starting and I need to replace the stator starting clutch as is it slipping when it starts. Let us know please.. Rick F.
  18. First thing I would do is either download a copy of the service manual for the 86-93 Venture Royale motorcycle from this link.. https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?3384-First-Gen-Service-Manuals or buy one from Ebay, as they do come up from time to time in the paper version. It is what most of use to do service work on our VRs. Look it over and dont be afraid to ask questions or do a search for things. Also if you havent located it yet, check out the Tech library for more information on maintaining the bikes. Your bike is what we call a 1st Gen MK2, this covers 1986-1993, the 1983-1985 are 1st Gen MK1. There are some parts that interchange and looking at a parts diagram is a good way to see if it is possible. I use Parts Shark as they have good prices.. https://www.partshark.com/oemparts/c/yamaha_motorcycle/parts There are sources for parts for the bikes besides the dealers but it might require some searching or checking out the forums here as we usually share things we find with each other. I hope you enjoy the VR as much as I do and it gives you years of riding enjoyment. Welcome to the site.. Rick F.
  19. I purchased my antenna, cables and mounting studs from Walcott Radio in Walcott, Iowa. The are across I-80 from the Worlds Largest Truck Stop, I-80 Truck Stop just outside of the Quad Cities. https://www.walcottradio.com/ They have an antenna fold over adapter that I used for both of my FireStik antennas on my 89. https://www.walcottradio.com/antenna-fold-over-adapter-203ez-p-262.html If you dont have a CB shop local, which there arent many left, try a local truck stop as they still have CB equipment and accessories on the shelves. I was able to find shorter length coax that fit on the bike and was easier to hide then the standard 18ft cables. I have not set my SWR yet but then I havent had much need to use the CB yet either. Hope this helps a bit... Rick F.
  20. I mounted two Firestik antennas on the back of my 89. I did convert the luggage rack to an 87 as they came with the mounts on both sides for the antenna holder. I then ran a separate wire up to the radio and then a separate wire for the CB. This allowed me to remove the spliter that is attached to the CB and run the CB line into it directly. I would recommend the 3 foot Firestik as I have 4 foot on mine and think they stick up a little too high for my taste. You will also need a 90 degree connection for under the antenna to make a neater setup. Do a search here on the Marshall Mod here on for more information on it. I hope this helps Rick F.
  21. Just a quick search on google turned up some links... https://www.bar-nunn.com/wyoming-prairie-dog-hunt/ https://qcreek.com/prairie-dog-hunting/ http://www.huntvarmints.com/index_files/Page344.htm http://www.ultimateprairiedoghunting.com/usa/wyoming/ Sounds like a fun time.. Rick F.
  22. It looks good to me and I wouldnt be concerned about it. They seal is on the correct end as the book isnt also the most accurate on some of the diagrams. I would replace it with a new one as it does keep the gear lube in rear end. I would also grease the spines on the other end before you slide it back into the u-joint yoke. Hope that helps. Rick F.
  23. This is the coolant joint and it is located under the right side of the bike right behind the radiator side cover trim If you notice the single round pin on the lower part of the coolant joint, that is where the temp gauge connects. Make sure it is clean and the connector makes a tight connection and see if that fixes your issue. Rick Fink. [h=1][/h]

    SeaFoam

I have been buying Seafoam in the gallon can. I usually get it at Menards when they have their 11% off sales. Works out to less than $7.00 a pint. I have kept some of the used can and transfer it to them so I can transport it easier also. Rick F.

    SeaFoam

I have been using Seafoam for years now in all my small engines and motorcycle. I always make sure to store the engines with Seafoam in the tank and I havent had any issues getting them to start right up at the first of the season. I also add seafoam to any gas I bring home for the mowers and such just so it stays good sitting on the shelf thru the season. I know a lot of people up here in Minnesota that swear by it and have used it for years. Rick F.
