  1. There really isnt a complete rebuild kit for the Ventures so you have to piece one together usually. Here is a few links of where you can get the kits and assorted parts. https://www.carburettorshop.com/contents/en-us/d380_Mikuni_BDS_carburetor_parts_and_rebuild_kits.html https://www.siriusconinc.com/search_result.php?make=2&model=Venture%20Royale&part=All&partno=&x=56&y=16&search=search&start=0 https://www.partshark.com/oemparts/a/yam/50042779f8700209bc7889b1/carburetor There is a difference between the 1200 and 1300 carbs so you need to be careful to make sure you get the correct parts. Also the Chinese parts are not the best quaility and fit so be aware of that. I would do a little online research before using them but that is my opinion, but for the cost of that "kit" they cant be of the best quality. I would also suggest that if you are going to tear down and rebuild the carbs that you get a nice video made by Damon Ferraiuolo. It is an excellent video on the disassembly and reassembly of the carbs. He is using Vmax carbs but they are basically the same carb with just a few differences is all. Here is a link to a previous forum post about the video. https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?119186-Bought-Carb-Rebuild-Video-by-Damon-Ferraiuolo And above all else, dont be afraid to ask questions of us. Good luck.. Rick F.
  2. The vacuum advance is on carb intake #2 . Cyclinders 1 & 3 are in the back, 2 & 4 are the front ones. The vacuum line connects to the ignition control box under the battery. The temp gauge on this box will show at the red line and then the fans kicks on is the normal way, so if the previous owner had that happen, it might not have over heated at all.. The air suspension is only adjustable in the accessory position on the key lock. Hope that helps out. Rick F.
  3. either way you drain the tank should work, but when refilling it with fresh gas, but some seafoam in the gas tank first and then fill it with gas. This will help clean the carbs up a bit also. If there was gas left in them, they will have varnish in them also and may need to cleaning or rebuild. Good luck but it will be worth it once you get it running properly. Rick F.
  4. I would have to agree with you that is either front fork oil or rear shock oil. I think your next step is to remove the travel trunk and check the air compressor and the air lines and see if that leads to what is leaking. Hope that helps. Rick F.
  5. I have been using a Deka AGM battery in my 89 VR for a number of years and have no complaints with it. I picked mine up at Mills Fleet Farm in Minnesota here and is labeled for their private brand, Road Runner, but it is manufactured by Deka as when I pulled the label off the box it was a Deka label under it. So it pays to check and see where the battery is produced and stay away for the China ones as they are nothing but trouble. Hope this helps. Rick F.
  6. I am not far from him and could do this for you. I dont live far away from Hopkins and drive past there past it a lot. Let me know if you would like me to do this? Rick F.
  7. What you have is an aftermarket replacement light bar with turn signals in it. It was available from Big Bike Parts out of Rice Lake, Wi. You might be able to contact them and see if they still have any of the replacement lenses available still. This is from an old post on the lenses: I called Big Bike Parts at 888-244-2453 ext 10. The part numbers are as follows: Center red lens 900100L Left amber lens 900100LL Right amber lens 900100RL They had all 3 items in stock as of last Thursday, 7-18-13. I hope this helps and good luck. Rick F.
  8. This is a tough one to answer as it depends on your mechanical abilities to reassemble the bike. I would go cheaper then the asking price on this project. It would depend on if he disassembled the engine or not. You might be able to sell the plastic off via ebay if it is in good shape and some of the other parts you wont need in your conversion or if you find that it is too much of a basket case part it all out and recoup your money hopefully. Good luck Rick F.
  9. I have "shotgunned" my carbs a couple of times and it is a good way to clear up some of the circuits in the carbs. Do a search here or on the internet as it is a common practice for these bikes and the Vmax. Seafoam works wonders also and I have gotten into the habit of storing all my small engine gas with Seafoam added to it and all my engine start right up even after sitting for any length of time. I also store my VR with a full tank of nonethanol gas and seafoam added to it and my VR started right up this spring like I had just rode it yesterday. Also a sync of the carbs is in order as they tend to need it every so often. The other advise you received here is also important and checking the carb diaphrams for pin holes is fairly easy as you dont have to remove the carbs from the bike to do it. Just be mindful of the springs and how the diaphrams when in. Hope that helps you. Rick F.
  10. getting the axle out is the biggest issue with dropping the rear wheel assemble. You need to remove the bags for that but you might be able to leave the racks for them in place. With the axle out the rear rotor might be able to clear once it is removed from the rotor. Another thought is to install Progressive fork springs and get some plates to remove the anti-dive solenoids on the lower forks. http://www.fastfromthepast.com/fork-anti-dive-bypass/yamaha-anti-dive-bypass I have my anti-dives disconnect on my 89 VR as I have the Progressive fork springs and I plan on getting some block off plates and installing them next time I swap out my fork oil. By the way your lowers look great. Good job. Rick F.
  11. i just received an email from Brakecrafters for a 15% discount on orders with free USA shipping. 12. I agree with you and it makes sense why the Royales had the better shock. You should be able then to get a outside spring mounted shock and that should help you out. I think if it was my bike, I would do that and then once I was able to get the Progressive spring shock, then install and run that. That would least help with the sagging you experiencing with the old shock. Good luck. Rick F.
  13. Well 1stGen MKII shocks comes with the black spring as stock. I believe the black rubber you see on the other 1st Gen MKI is a rubber boot that covers the spring. I dont have any experience with those so I am not 100% sure. What you are looking for is exactly what mralex714 has pictured in the the first post. I also believe that any of the 1st gen shocks are interchangeable with each other as checking the parts site it shows the same part number used on all 1st Gen Ventures. When Progressive sold this spring, it was just the spring and no shock. The buyer had to get it installed on the shock and I can only guess how to do that. Buying one already installed is so much easier. It took me over a year to find a shock with a red spring on it on ebay, so just keep looking and they do pop up now and then. But it does make for a nice ride with the progressives in the front and on the rear. Hope this helps. Rick F.
  14. Checking ebay is your best bet as Progressive is no longer making the spring for the rear shock. I found mine by checking the photos on ebay and looking for a red spring on a 1st gen shock and was able to get it fairly cheap. Hope that helps. Rick F.
  15. All the above need to be checked and of course the carbs need to be synced as that does make a difference also. This can let you know if you have a clogged vacuum ports in the carbs or maybe another issue. One of the things to check out is shotgunning the carbs. This amounts to spraying carb cleaner in different vacuum ports on the carbs to help clean them out. Look it up on a search engine as there are numerous articles on how to do it. The Vmax guys do this a lot on their bikes it seems. I am in the 40mph range with lowered needles and sync done a couple times a year and I tend to ride in the 60 to 75 MPH range a lot when I am out riding. Rick F.
  16. You could also turn off DHCP on your PC and assign a static IP address and take that part of the issue out of the picture. I have done that on a couple of my PC so I always know what the IP address is so I can access them remotely from inside my network. If you can access your router you can change what address are available for lease and then use one of the non DHCP address for the PC in question. You will also have to set the default gateway( your routers IP address) and the DNS server IP address also. Hope this helps. Rick F.
  17. It almost sounds like the server you are connecting to or maybe a router you are running thru to get to that server is having an issue. The best way to troubleshoot this is to put a sniffer program on your PC to do a packet capture and see you if get a disconnect message from the server or just what is happening. A freeware one is Wireshark. https://www.wireshark.org/ You will have to have the capture running and then stop and save it right after being disconnected and then have the trace analyzed to see if something shows up on it. Hope this helps some as this issue can be a hard one to pinpoint due to all the variables you are dealing with. Good luck Rick F.
  18. There are some complete fairing pieces on Ebay now that might be the way to go for the cost of them. Check out this one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/83-85-85-84-YAMAHA-VENTURE-XVZ12-XVZ1200-headlight-FAIRING-COWLING-UPPER-right/223420530823?hash=item3404e6c087:g:hSUAAOSwRTxcSwif:rk:12:pf:0&vxp=mtr Hope this helps some.. Good luck. Rick F.
  19. Just thought I would add this to the steam engine information. The Union Pacific Rail Road is just completing a complete rebuild of a 4-8-8-4 Big Boy and will have it back on the rail and under steam May 2019. This is one of the largest steam engines ever produced. Here is a link to the site with more information about it. https://www.up.com/heritage/steam/4014/index.htm Rick F.
  20. That page was setup by a previous member who copied the text and posted it there for us. It appears that the website is no more, so maybe he has stopped using that webpage service. I am not sure if it is something we can post here on the forum or if it is too big to do that. The first gen 86-93 service manual is 22.3 Meg in size. We will have to check with admins and see if it is possible to post here. Rick F.
  21. The issue with LED replacement bulbs is that they arent designed for the reflectors that are built into the headlight or the fluting on the lenses. Sometimes you need to turn the bulb to match the configuration of the bulb you are pulling out. Check out this site for some ideas on replacement LED bulbs. They arent the cheapest out there but then you usually get what you pay for. https://headlightrevolution.com/ I did switch my 89 over to a LED bulb a few years ago and added a set of PIAA LED fog lights and they work great with a nice light pattern and spread but then again, they are designed for a LED bulb. Hope this helps some. Rick F.
  22. how about the thermo coupler or flame sensor being carboned up a bit. Try taking some emery cloth to it and polish it clean. I would do that to my old furnace at the start of the season and it would have no issue. When I forgot to then I would have lighting issue with the main burners. not sure on the fan blower issue but I think you are looking at the correct item.. I had to replace my 24 year old furnace as the control board died on it and was no longer available and the recommended replacement was $1,000 to rewire it in to work.. I just went with a new furnace as you know how important they are up here in the cold north. Good luck.. Rick F.
  23. Here is an auction house in Fowler, Ind that deals in toys and die-cast models. They are located in Western Indiana and might be able to assist you in selling them or determining a value. http://www.toystrainsandotheroldstuff.com/ They do online auction as well as in person ones. Sorry for your loss and good luck. Rick F.
  24. Here is a link to display a lot of the NOS VentureLine accessories that are for sale on ebay right now. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=%22Yamaha+Venture%22&_sop=10&_osacat=0&_ipg=200&_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=%22Yamaha+Venture+Line%22&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=1 I have nothing for sale or any interest in these items. Just sharing with the group. Rick F.
  25. What he said basically.. There was a standard model for the XVZ1200 and the XVZ1300 up to 1988 when all the Venture were Royale models. The basic model did not come with the onboard air compressor for the suspension or the CB/radio setup with the built in intercom system. Motor wise they are the same as well as everything else on the bike not related to the Royale models. I hope that helps. Rick F.
