  1. I was mistaken it’s 750 but your statement would still apply. I’m gonna take my chances as my interpretation of the rule is the trailer itself. https://dmv.utah.gov/vehicles/trailers
  2. No idea. My last house had a 40’ish tower too. I used it to get better signal with my Clear wireless internet.
  3. Yeah I’m debating if I want to put a channel on or maybe decking to double it up as a utility trailer. If I go the channel method I could easily hang it on my wall for storage. One thing to take into account is if I keep it under 500lbs I don’t have to register it. Bearings, axle and tires are brand new.
  4. These are all good points and the reason I asked before moving forward. I’m still having a hard time believing 1000lbs hanging as mentioned 3’ off the back of a receiver lasting too long, also pushing 800lbs up that ramp ain’t gonna happen, would need to find a good hill or high curb to help. I found the same issue with u-haul being round trip and also in my area a 5 day max. so after pondering a little today I realized I’m an idiot. I already have a trailer!!!! I have an old Highlander (Shoreliner) bunk trailer from my Hobie 16 that I got rid of when I moved (sold the boat, kept the trailer). It’s been propped up against my garage wall for the past six years. I initially counted it out because of the 4.80-8 tires and low speed rating. And I haven’t put it together here because one lack of need and two lack of storage, I need to remove a fence panel or install a gate. Then I realized all I need is new highway tires and maybe adjusting the fenders. Measures 5’w X 10’l plus tongue. Single leaf spring with 1800lb capacity.
  5. There is compression, forks are moving and dampening out the road, I just expected them to be softer than they are. Ride home yesterday in freezing rain and 30mph wind, I was just concentrating on my frozen face and eyeballs.
  6. Ok so literally a minute after posting this I came across this video. Still want to hear any suggestions experience.
  7. Any suggestions or experience using a hitch mount motorcycle carrier? I really don’t have a desire to store a trailer but the hitch mounts I’ve found are only rated up to 600lb about 150lb less than the weight of a Gen1. I’m not shy about pushing the limits but looking for ideas/experience. This would be going on the back of my Expedition. or does anyone know of a trailer that’s specifically for a motorcycle? Narrow single track thing, not a utility trailer. or if Uhaul sells used ones? I want this for a few reasons, one vacationing with the family but being able to ride and explore while there, and work trips for the same reason.
  8. I did use your syringe method, but not with a hose measurement. I will do that next. I used a combination of tips and directions including those from Progressive and these https://venturers.org/Tech_Library/index.php?action=article&cat_id=001013&id=140 I’m curious to see how far off 4” with springs in is from 5.5 without.
  9. I measured 5.5 without the springs. I will not be letting any oil out, thanks for that. Gotta get more than 12 miles on it before I do any changes. I was just so used to the floppy springs it’s a world of a difference.
  10. Gotcha. I didn’t use the pvc pipe that it came with, I put the OEM washer and cap on top of the springs, then screwed the bolts back in. Gonna give it more time, rode to work this morning and thoroughly enjoyed the ride minus the wind.
  11. So after fixing the unexpected fuel leak today I finally got to try out the new springs! They are a little stiffer than I expected, no air 10wt progressive oil. I measured 5.5” from the top of the tube when compressed after pumping a dozen times. Will letting a little oil out soften them up? Gonna give it more time before I do that, just asking. The two things that stand out most as I went for a much deserved beer run are first it’s really nice not bouncing while changing gears and second it instilled a bit of confidence I was subconsciously lacking. Every crack in the road before had me worried I was going to wash out because I never knew when the forks would bottom out.
  12. Ahhhh I didn’t remove the seat for this unexpected project. “Sending unit” confused me as it’s not sending fuel but fuel level signal. Good news is as of this moment replacing the petcock gasket seems to have stopped the leak, of course it had a full tank 🙄. Siphoned what I could but still made a mess out of my driveway still attempting to collect as much as possible.
  13. @Freebird Any chance we can revive these pics? Went to leave for work this morning only to find a puddle of gas on the garage floor. The highest wet spot I found was a steady drip from the petcock area. I did find these gaskets in the saddlebag when I bought it. I know where the petcock one goes, but not the other. Diagram wasn’t really clear.
  14. Well the smell had dissipated over the day as I had the wifey open the garage door, but it still stank. Got everything cleaned up and new “Blue” oil put in. Hopefully gonna ride to work tomorrow so we’ll see how it all goes.
  15. We have a winner!! Thanks @saddlebum I wouldn’t have thought to look there. Springs installed and I was a bit shocked when I poured the new oil and I came out blue. Weather isn’t good for a ride yet but the forks have very minimal movement during a stationary compression.
  16. It’s upside down and there appears to be a zip tie in there.
  17. This isn’t gear oil smell, I’m one of the strange few who actually like the smell of 90W. If I had to guess I’d bet on this being the OEM oil put in in 87. I’m at work so I’ll try to get a description of what it smells like when I get home, but it’s nasty and strong. Did a google search and apparently it’s common but haven’t come across why.
  18. Got busy making dinner last night and just let it drain out overnight. Woke up this morning and my entire house stinks to high hell. Wifey might kill me since she’s home all day.
  19. It fits perfectly in the top tube but then the bolt wouldn’t fit and I don’t recall seeing it when I took the caps off. Not the lower dust boot. Could be a random piece that just showed up from another project, but I’ve had nothing else going on.
  20. Got everything buttoned up and degreased. Sounds like a whole different bike without sucking in random air. Still think there may be another leak somewhere but nothing like it had.
  21. Where does this piece go? I removed the caps with the 17mm hex, then removed the drain plugs and then wiggled things around a bit and the front end dropped. The left side spit it’s guts out all over the garage, the right side got caught on a trim piece and stayed in place. Using the right side as a template to what all came out and how I took it apart but did not come across this rubber boot. It’s dirty so it was exposed to the elements, not internal but doesn’t seem to fit anywhere.
  22. In the interest of time and not committing to a paint job I decided to fiberglass the backside for now. I will be investing some time into plastifix though because there are a lot of tabs broken off on this thing.
  23. Tightening is easier said than done, what a shitty location. Finally got in there with an Allen and Pliers to turn it. Gonna swing by work in the morning to grab the right tool to get in there.
  24. Sonnnnn bichhhh button it all back up and still hear suction, time for round two. Left rear boot 😪. At least I know what shop to never get maintenance done at.
  25. My wife will still never get on board with all the random “trash” I keep around the garage but an old snowblower shoe and a pry bar got it in place quick and easy. Loosened all the clamps and hit with some WD40 then used a little leverage. Thanks for the tips, they helped me look around and use what I have at hand.
