  1. Today while on vacation in southern Utah I spotted my first Gen 1. It made me excited to see another still ruling the roads. Doesn’t look like any members located in that area but it was a lighter blue color around 4:30-5 pm. Next time down there when it’s just the wife and I we’ll definitely be bringing the bike along.
  2. BYU is a short distance away. Close on the Guzzi, I have a Ducati. Been using Pasta Burner for 20 years now across many sites. Surprisingly I don’t think it’s ever been taken. If it had been then I’m Pasta Burner 0 on that particular site so I’d still be ahead of 1 😆
  3. His surf journal has lots of pictures and captions
  4. Yep! I’ll even send it back vacuum packed with indicator card free of charge 🤓
  5. Recent technical events made me think of keeping a ride journal / logbook / diary. A brother of mine has always done this with surfing outings, it seemed silly to me years ago when we were younger but looking back it has more than one time put the pieces of a trip together we couldn’t quite recall, and put a smile on our faces. Anyway I was thinking it could help with technical issues in the future as well as serve as a written memory of each ride. Maybe just a five minute routine of jotting time/date, location, weather, whom with, anomalies…etc. Just wondering if anyone else does this and what they include. It wouldn’t be digital for my initial thought, a leather bound book to keep in the saddlebags.
  6. 🍻🍻 cheers my friend! Maybe someday we’ll enjoy a cold one together.
  7. That’s what I did, I think I did it in 30 second intervals in a paper plate, worked great and didn’t cost me anything. I remember having trouble getting the damn thing apart, needed to be persistent pushing in the cap, it was corroded in place.
  8. Odd thing is I didn’t touch anything. I did do mechanical work, putting in new springs and some carb seating. I don’t know if I saw this before I replaced the springs or only after. It wasn’t happening to my knowledge before winter. I ought to start a journal of every ride and note anomalies at least that would give me a timeline.
  9. Thanks @videoarizona I’ll have to see if I can find the CB schematic. It’s not an error code, the CB is working fine when turned on. The 7 appears when it is powered off, it’s picking up stray voltage from somewhere. It even displays the 7 when the ignition is off. So being that the CB circuit is ACC and ON only I’ve got a starting point.
  10. Just a note on how strong the pipes are, and what not to do. When I first used the lift I was a little nervous and had the bike strapped down with a ratchet strap. Then not thinking I wanted to position the jack in a higher position, so I pumped the pedal on the jack and in a handful of pumps the strap had all it could handle and broke like a bad winch cable. No damage to me or the bike thankfully. @BlueSky @saddlebum @ese
  11. I use the harbor freight motorcycle jack https://www.harborfreight.com/1500-lb-steel-atvmotorcycle-lift-60536.html put the rear pad just about where the center stand is the front on the pipes and she’s solid as a rock. You’ll want to strap it down if removing wheels, she still sits pretty balanced but can get a wobbly.
  12. Welcome and Yes the site is very active.
  13. I’d rather mess it up myself or take my bike to another member across the country than have some 18yo no nothing at a stealership touch anything. There are some custom shop exceptions.
  14. The plan was Vintage tags would be cheaper, turns out it costs me an extra $17- Damn you Utah!
  15. I posted this originally in the gen 1 tech forum but it quickly became not a generation issue but an electronic issue. Any help is appreciated.
  16. This is no help to you but I think that’s an odd feature to get rid of on Yamahas end. I was amazed to stumble upon the hazard switch on my 87 last year. Unfortunately got to use it broke down in the left turn lane of a 7 lane interchange on I15 with my 14yo daughter. Hazards kept most people from flipping us off while we worked out the problem.
  17. Here’s a little more clarification of my testing. Technically not “bench” test as I needed the bike connections. But I used comparable components. Now I’m getting the random “7” again which I fear will drain my battery so in the Interim I’ll leave it disconnected. Some pics of the test Pot and Erratic 7. Note: the unit is upside down. 18. So I still have no idea why it was displaying a “7” but that seems to be gone. Up until today I have been overly impressed with the engineering and quality of this machine. Maybe the CB units were outsourced but I came across the most inappropriate design for attaching fly wires to a circuit card. Most of the wires have broken strands. They thought it a good idea to solder 26 AWG stranded copper to a surface pad. Not even plated strands. Anyway I put the OEM design back in place and bench tested the squelch Pot which failed. Radio Shack didn’t have a 50k of the right dimension in stock but for a couple bucks I bought one electrically correct to perform another bench test. Everything seems to work correct now. I tested with my truck cb and it receives well and will transmit static to my truck when PTT is exercised. I tried using a 5pin cobra mic that I had laying around but it didn’t transmit, I’m guessing some incompatibility with multiple buttons. Now to find a Pot of the right size and electrical spec.
  19. Welcome! I’m sure somebody will be able to point you in the right direction.
  20. Not much of an update, large chunk of my day got sidetracked waiting for a missile delivery that of course was hours late and ended with minor complication, but successful delivery. Just another day with the USAF 😜. I found the broken wire home and discovered a handful more that are hanging on by a strand or two. The conformal coating on those shows obvious signs of heat. I think I’m going to rework all those connections. Day off tomorrow but going in for some needed catchup so hopefully I’ll find some bench time to work it more.
  21. Well I get to attach my club bell next week that I’m getting for my birthday and was happy to pay for that as well 🤑.
  22. What highway pegs? Got any pics? My 87 came with floorboard conversion that I don’t hate, but also had floorboard style pegs that didn’t sit right on the crashbar, couldn’t fold up and just weren’t comfortable so in the spare parts pile they went.
  23. I personally like paying the $12. Keeps the riffraff out. (Somehow I made the cut 🤫). What I don’t see here that I see in just about every free car forum out there is endless bashing of ideas or questions. I don’t have to sift through 50 -100 posts looking for the three that may help me. I don’t see discouragement. I see genuine honest people with similar interests having a good time.
