Thanks all! I’ll keep you posted on how I make out chasing the issue. Pop started it this morning and got it home. Headlight still not coming on, I know it was working during the speaker install because I was messing with the adjustment. Bypassing the interlocks to the starter sounds like a good place to start then work my way back.

This makes me think two issues. Clutch switch problem, but still start button switch problem. We’ll play with it at work tomorrow. One of my customer/ coworkers lives a block away so regardless we can truck it home tomorrow. luckily my building is an old WW2 warehouse that has railroad loading docks and concrete ramp so it’ll be an even load into the truck, and she’s safe on base overnight.

I didn’t notice if the kickstand indicator went away when I put it up, but it didn’t respond up or down in neutral. You do inspire a good question…and also confuse me a little. All of these interlocks are new to me so bear with me. What would the clutch lever have to do with the kickstand? also on a clutch lever switch note, there is one? and where? I think you may be on to something. If the kickstand is UP and the bike is IN gear and the clutch is pulled in should the bike start? I thought it used it but recently it will only start if the trans is in neutral. also I’m just putting this out as I’ve noticed very recently I’m getting intermittent neutral indications weather it’s green light or N on dash, is that normal?. I’m used to this with my Duc so I thought nothing of it, but my Duc has no interlock.

So I rode to work this morning with no issues mechanically or electrically enjoying even listening to the radio DJs speak clearly at highway speeds with my new Kicker 4" speakers. (I mention this mainly as a possible variable in my dilemma, also AWESOME upgrade!). I go to leave work today and Nothing when I hit the start button. The radio still came on, the dash did it's checks and only the kickstand warning was correctly on, fuel pump clicked and I heard the relay exersize when switched to run, but NOTHING when hitting the start button. To note, the start button felt a little sticky or not smooth the first push or two. I located what I "Think" is the starter (above oil filter on front of engine running side to side?) and gave it a few raps with 3/8 extension and a ball hammer, did this a few times but no luck. I attempted to take the switch apart but didn't know how to access the switch part of the assembly, I removed two screws one upper and one lower which released the throttle and the start/stop switch was visible on the top side but couldn't get to the bottom start under the cruise. For shits and giggles we hooked up some jumper cables figuring we'd feel stupid not at least trying but that had no effect. Voltage indicator was sitting above half way with and without cables. with cables detached I asked my coworker if the headlight dimmed when I pressed the button and he indicated the headlight wasn't lit. it was very hard to see as it was of course facing the sun, but to me appeared unlit too, I don't know if it was lit on the way in. Voltage meter did not drop when button pushed. Checked all fuses and did not find any faults visually. Triple checked to make sure it was in neutral even cycled through some gears. Tried with kickstand down and up. So my initial thinking is Starter switch or faulty kickstand switch. How do I disassemble the assembly to access the starter switch? @cowpuc I now KNOW firsthand when you say you'd rather fix the problem than spend time and energy removing the shiny bits! this is why I only think I found the starter.

No project is properly completed without a few extra pieces. I realized just after I took the pic the rubber bits are the fork cap covers from my progressive install. Not so sure about the other screws esp the two m5 with lock washers but no flat washer. 🤷♂️ I must say the Kickers are a marked improvement in the garage, we’ll see what they sound like on the road tomorrow.

Welcome!

Glad everyone was ok and the bike wasn’t a total loss. My first thought is “was he drinking?” Other than not having insurance or registration or if the bike was stolen I can’t think of another reason to rush away from the scene before the cops arrived.

@Midicat would you mind posting what all you did? I have a desire to keep it as original as possible. With that said, I’m not opposed to changing things up if I can put it back to factory condition. For instance I opted to hack up my brand new speakers to fit the bike rather than hack up the bike to fit the speakers.

I’m so sorry to read this @rbig1 you’re loss though reaffirms my decision to get back in the saddle as I did last season. Gotta do what we can when we can, because tomorrow is never a guarantee.

Went to three dealers / shops yesterday in search of highway pegs. Nobody had anything in stock so I swung by the car audio store and picked up a pair of Kicker 4” marine and put together a plan for further audio if I want more. Anyway main reason for the post is to ask what else should I be looking at / inspecting / maintenancing while I’ve got it apart, it’s a lot of work getting in there.

In the year of Covid for our fourth we did the same thing with a picnic by the stream.

Thanks for the wishes! as for the Alexi 2 pants I wore them over jeans today and because the leg zipper is only near the ankle you can’t put shoes on first easily. It was 60degrees on the way in and they were comfortable. A bit bunchy in the back of the knee but I did rush after the shoe struggle at 0430. 88 and sunny on the way home, took my time putting the pants on without shoes before leaving work and they still were mostly comfortable but bunchy in the knee still, I think the Armor doesn’t sit right for me. Being mesh they are very heavy weight wise but I could feel the airflow nice when up to 50mph. So while they aren’t the ideal overpants I’ll keep them and see how other jeans or slacks feel. These are also just an alternative to my riding jeans that I can easily wear shorts under. And the thermal liner seems to be welcoming come fall.

Thanks @saddlebum looks like the Harley dealer down the street is a preferred dealer for this brand.

Wifey got me these for my birthday. I wanted some overpants style pants to commute to work and these seem to fit the bill with the liners removed and worn over jeans or slacks they’re comfortable. Hope to test them out tomorrow. https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sedici-alexi-2-mesh-pants kids gave me a Venture rider guardian bell too!! also got a new shirt and hat from vacation

FORGOT TO PUT GREMLIN BELLS ON OUR E-BIKES..
Pasta Burner replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
I’ve never been accused of being polite 🤪 -
@saddlebum if I remember from another post you have short legs too. I’ve got a 30” inseam and my Mk2 has wind deflectors so I’m in the market for both wide and close. You think those Longhorns would do the job? What do you mean by extensions? I’ve been looking for pegs a while now but nothing has jumped out, probably because I can’t see anything in person. Doesn’t seem like anyone stocks these kinda things.

FORGOT TO PUT GREMLIN BELLS ON OUR E-BIKES..
Pasta Burner replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
those are the ones I’m talking about! This is me assuming they are practicing or training, but I highly doubt “just friends” all wear matching outfits. And it’s almost never the ones that don’t match causing problems. -
So after some reading and researching turning the rotors isn’t really an option. I read through these two threads and tried all the links with nothing showing as available. EBC doesn’t seem to have a fitment guide and google isn’t helping when searching for the part numbers. My local dealer is showing on their website $400.00 each, but I haven’t called for availability as that’s ridiculous. Anybody know where I can get replacements? New, good used, aftermarket, another make model that fits. I see something about the v max, is that correct? Searching google with the Yamaha PN I can find some, but still around $300.00 https://www.youngpowersportslayton.com/oempartfinder#/Yamaha/XVZ13DTC_-_1987/FRONT_BRAKE_CALIPER/d8f5f585-45e2-4d3b-b62f-0961652755e5/26805bf2-a872-46da-89f7-abab265c162a/y

FORGOT TO PUT GREMLIN BELLS ON OUR E-BIKES..
Pasta Burner replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
@circa1968 I know it’s not everybody, and everyone is entitled to their form of entertainment. Trust me I give as much room as possible, clipping a cyclist isn’t on my bucket list. As motorcyclist we know the vulnerabilities. For years I’ve gone to the corestates race in Philly and now the Tour of Utah passes directly by my house, and we stand on the corner ringing cowbells cheering the riders on. My street is shut down anyway so may as well enjoy it. -
FORGOT TO PUT GREMLIN BELLS ON OUR E-BIKES..

Ugh those “racers” shutting down roads and backing up traffic. Riding 3-4 abreast on two lane blacktop while “practicing” or “training”. “Share the road” they say but you don’t see them sharing the cost, no insurance, no registration. Go rent a track like any other “racer”. When is the last time in the US where public streets are shut down for a motor sports race? But for pedal bikers it’s a right of some sort. I know I offended somebody so sorry in advance 🚴 -
Improving My Brakes
Pasta Burner replied to Idrys's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Did another bleed with the Miti vac the other day with no improvement. Had the kid come help me do a manual bleed today with better lever feel but no improvement in braking effect. Going to have the rotor turned to see if that helps, it’s pretty groved. -
I understand yes during rush hour and anomalous accidents there are times that it happens. But on I15 from Vegas to salt lake mid day during the week with no car in front of said vehicles in either lane. You’re in the wrong lane! Even if I’m going 10-15 over in an 80 zone, nowhere I needed to be sooner, just wasting gas I get the left lane to pass, then back to the right lane when passing is over. Sorry rant over again.
