I think this is a pretty responsible and chill group. I get nervous on group rides when I don’t know who I’m riding with, I’ll be the first to admit I’m not the strongest rider especially on the VR but I’m getting there. Hoping to get out this weekend actually. I’m a proponent of the motto ride your ride nobody else’s. I had a semi bad experience over the summer with a group ride that some acquaintances let their drunken selves take over getting upset because some of us decided to not speed down unknown roads across double yellow, thus breaking the group up. Additionally I don’t drink and ride, I may have a beer or two at lunch especially if also sightseeing and taking my time but these particular people had a goal of going from bar to bar to bar. @Marcarl you say free to come and go but where are you coming and going to?
-
I’ve never been to a rally, my riding has mainly consisted of day adventures with friends and some relatively local weekend trips. I’m in Salt Lake so Oregon isn’t too far and I’ve never been there. I’m interested in this possibility but a few questions. What does a rally consist of? How long does it last? Is this camping or a hotel? Typically solo or with the wifey? I’m pretty flexible as far as timing goes, no restrictions on when or how long I take time off work, bonus if I have cell service I can keep up with the office now and then if need be.

I just looked at y’all’s profiles and realized you are not talking about a Gen 1 like I have. But I will do some digging as I think lowering the front on a Gen 1 has been done if I recall my readings.
-
@circa1968 yeah what @Junior asked!?! What did you do to lower the front end? @Junior I bought my 87 two years ago and it came with a Corbin seat, I find it’s comfortable but have only been on single day rides so far. Can’t comment on if it lowered as I have nothing to compare to. I’m 5’9” with a 30” inseam. I can only flat foot if I stand and forget about it with extra air and a passenger. My next method of hope was going to be trying to wear boots with a big sole. I normally wear my sport bike shoes but that may be worsening the tall bike issue. for note I can’t flat foot my sport bike either, but with 20+ years of experience/dealing with it and around 600lb lighter it’s a non issue.

Now that’s unique

It was just the first thing that popped up googling motorcycle camper…there are a handful or so makes and models out there. Good to know it’s easy to pull. Price is why you gotta find used
-
Wait what? You have a motorcycle camper? So I googled that and found this. How cool is this! Mind blown🤯 don’t know how much harder it is to ride with a trailer but this would definitely make the wife more prone to motorcycle camping. I honestly don’t like tents either but in certain situations I’ll deal. https://www.kompactkamptrailers.com/store/Mini-Mate-Camper-p46920098?utm_source=googleshopping&utm_medium=shp&utm_network=g&utm_mobile=01&utm_creative=322237702508&utm_position=&utm_random=4513755464032353559&gclid=Cj0KCQiA9OiPBhCOARIsAI0y71BZY7BuZeLFM-P5gnXlAx6D18LUP-rYuq8kvo1fAorDS8I_o9Kd3BAaAin3EALw_wcB&utm_campaign=trailers&utm_ad_group_id=35446&utm_campaign_id=144622&utm_prod_id=46920098

So I learned a tidbit of info in this video. Unfortunately it doesn’t apply to the shinko website early in the video he mentions that the tire manufacturer has the recommended pressure for a specific bike. I found pirelli website tell the recommended pressure. https://youtu.be/wHYbP2wd_Zg
-
@circa1968 I run the pressure indicated on the sticker, for my 87 that’s 32 front and 40 rear. (I don’t intend on opening the endless debate on the fact that the sticker info was engineered with oem tires therefore it’s invalid blah blah blah…). The sticker is a good guideline IMO and it hasn’t done me wrong yet on any vehicle. where are your tires showing wear? That could be a good indication of the cause.

I couldn’t begin to tell you, I don’t think I have more than 3k on them.
-
Very cool! I don’t have anything to compare to but I’m really enjoying the 777 on my 87.

Been there too 😆

My goal is to keep the snowblower in the shed until I need it. I fired it up back in November to make sure it was ready but have no plans of moving it…hopefully Mother Nature cooperates. I can get onboard with the love of Tequila. I just finished my first bottle of Military Special and I was quite surprised with it.

I have a mr heater garage heater but those are a few hundred bucks, it works amazing though. It came with my last house and I took it when I split with the ex. Another cheaper option that I use quite often if I don’t plan on needing the whole garage warm is a tank top blossom heater. I picked a double blossom from harbor freight a few years back for I think $40, might be just what you need in a small garage.

Silly question here, I had to Google “passing lights” but when I discovered what they are I’m wondering why they are called that and what’s the differentiation between driving and passing lights?

Anybody ever trailer a canoe W/ Motorcycle?
Pasta Burner replied to Pasta Burner's topic in Watering Hole
So wind and just updraft from driving was a thought. I even did some research about transporting it upright instead of the traditional upside down. Not many people do it for various reasons, but it’s a possibility. -
87 clutch bleed

It’s surprisingly still pliable too. -
87 clutch bleed
Pasta Burner replied to Pasta Burner's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
And the bleed screw for the clutch is under the little rubber cover on the left side? -
So last year I reassembled my old bunk trailer thinking I might use it to take the bike with us on family vacations, which still might happen. The other day I got to thinking about using the trailer to take the canoe with on motorcycle trips. The trailer was from a Hobie 16’ so it has a long tongue.
-
@Condor Hey Condor, I’ve read through searching that you have a method and write up for clutch bleeding. I have an 87 VR and want to flush out the old fluid. Any chance you can help? Oh I do have a mitivac if that helps too. All opinions welcome of course. thanks, Tom

? Confused. What does a trailer for your bike have to do with working?

We saw a guy in Park City a few months back that had a medium-large sized dog with him cocooned in a backpack carrier.

So sorry to learn of your cancer. Godspeed in your recovery Don. I’m relatively new here also, I bought my 87 literally the week before the world shut down. I had never heard of a venture more than the night before I bought it, without this site it most certainly would have been sold shortly after I acquired it. The level of knowledge here is unparalleled to any other forum I’ve been a part of and I can’t stress enough the professionalism and camaraderie that is achieved here. There is like ZERO negativity and or making someone feel dumb for not knowing something, even if it’s common wrenching knowledge and not bike specific, everyone is here to learn and help. I’m a pretty seasoned mechanic, but working on bikes isn’t my typical wrench time. With the help of all of you I have the confidence to go out on two wheels and feel safe. I can’t comment specifically to the decline in activity, I think we’re a pretty active bunch honestly. I’m pretty much checking in daily, and plan to continue.
