Crash bar is exactly what I settled on but haven’t put it into practical use yet, also don’t know how much it’ll bother the passenger. on another note @DonnyRudeDude are those the longhorn highway pegs? Do you like them? I know Ben has good review. I can’t find anyone local that has them to look at before buying.

Anybody have a closeup of how you mounted it? I bought something similar off Amazon when this thread came out but have not found a good place to mount it.

@saddlebum that seems wayyyy overkill for what my simple brain had in mind. Without looking it up I think the CLASS hits low 70’s psi on the rear. My thought is put in a diverter valve with a hose to go to the tire valves and use manual mode on the CLASS to dial in pressure. I expect it to be off some but the computer is getting positive feedback just as it would from the suspension. I don’t imagine using this feature for filling a flat per say but for daily top offs.

Kickstand (relocated thread)
Pasta Burner replied to Pasta Burner's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That’s what my gut told me, put it back together and all seems well. Not knowing the composition of the metal and not caring enough to research it. Time will tell. It does seem to be sitting more upright now. -
Kickstand (relocated thread)
Pasta Burner replied to Pasta Burner's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
So nothing oblong, the bolt shank, frame hole and kickstsnd hole all measured 11.7mm as best I could measure given the poor access. The fork in the kickstand was spread, looked more like the outside fork was bent. Pressed it back together so it fits tight now. Now I’m debating should I heat and dunk it or just see what happens. -
@larrydr you’re like a mad scientist! I mean this in the most respectful way but Rick Moranis and honey I shrunk the kids comes to mind every time you post one of your gadgets

Happy Birthday!!!

Ohhh man! My mom made some rum balls this Christmas when my wife was so gracious to buy me a ticket home to visit. I may make this 20hr ride just for that!
-
Are you referring to the bolt, kickstand or both?My first thought when I saw the bolt head was “that looks shoddy and weak”. Thought it might be a good idea to replace the bolt. I also thought I can press the kickstand fork tighter but that may weaken it. Shims could work.

So I finally decided to crouch down and take a look. There is slop at the bolt junction, how tight should it be? Obviously still needs to move. See video for reference. IMG_0642.MOV

Haha in my defense I’ve only had it two years and finally at the end of last season got it running really well with the new carb slides

It dawned on me the other day when I saw another vehicle with vintage plates that although my bike is 35 years old, it only equates to less than 1k miles per year of her life.
-
Sounds like a fun time, I doubt it’s a possibility for this year. 20hr one way is a bit far.

No idea specifically about your bike but my guess is it’s an M5ish fine pitch. If you have another one from somewhere else on the fairings pull it, make sure it fits the missing location and match it up at pretty much any hardware store. I find Ace or True value or a Mom and Pop usually have better stock than a big box for what you need. Of course your local Yamaha Stealer will have it too for 10x the cost.

I’ve been using the harbor freight battery tender in my bikes for about 3 years now with no issues and have saved hundreds on replacement batteries. I used to get one season at most. Just gotta remember to keep the fluid topped off on one of them.

@circa1968 if you’re not familiar with it evaporust may be your friend.

You need to remember to take into account the exchange rate. Look at any book or magazine and you’ll notice the Canadian price is always almost double. Sadly my Expy and F150 sit parked at home in favor of the Kia spectra and Saturn just because of gas prices.

Yes what @Freebird said. I have no personal experience but recently looked into trailering and trailers and the rule of thumb I came across is only tow up to 50% of the tow bikes weight. https://www.rv.com/rv/trending-rvs/small-campers-that-can-be-towed-by-a-motorcycle/

https://www.pure-gas.org Didn’t look to see it Canada is supported. Here just outside of salt lake you can get ethanol free at pretty much half of the stations. What octane may differ a bit but I’d rather run low octane ethanol free than have another attack to my systems. F150 and Duc both get ethanol free exclusively.

@circa1968 I completely understand…I’m an Eagle Scout and have done a lot of camping in my life…I’ve since took on my dads way of life, his idea of roughing it is a hotel with only two swimming pools. All throughout my scouting career my dad was there driving kids in the Suburban or hauling gear in one of his many trucks, but come bedtime he was at the nearest hotel. Back on topic though being in SCL the entire coast is within reach. My experience of Cali is San Jose to Sunnyvale which was good food but bad traffic. And Vandenberg AFB which is incredibly beautiful. the furthest west I’ve driven is Elko NV.
