It's an Air Injection System. According to Freebird in this post on "Plugging the AIS": http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=485 The AIS is an emissions system which introduces oxygen-bearing air into the exhaust ports on the exhaust stroke. This induces further combustion of hydrocarbons in the exhaust pipe and greatly reduces emissions. It is driven by intake vacuum pulses.

Air suspension question
gibvel replied to Burninator's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Do you have numbers on pressures before and after. What I mean is, when the unit started filling the back what was the pressure it dropped down to as it started to fill the back. Was there a large difference in the temperature between when you filled it the first time and checked it again? I'm thinking that, if the pressure difference was large but not super large the temperature and barometric pressure could have made some difference. I'd pump it back up and set it down on the ground again and then check every 30 min. or so to see if it loses pressure. Go for a little ride and check it again. If it loses pressure then move on to what Eck suggested. Just my -
See what you mean. I guess I've not been caught in the situation that you describe with the 99. I have, however, been caught in that situation with the 89, the windshield of which I can see over, and the same kind of thing happens with the helmet face shield so it wasn't all that much of an advantage when I could see over the shield. Guess I've got some more experiencing to do to find out about which windshield would work best for me. Good thing I don't need a new shield right now.......hate to get the wrong one. Sounds like other companies have the same design engineering solutions though.

How's the buffeting for the passenger? Have you had a chance to ride 2 up with it yet? I've heard that the shorter one is good for the driver, but the passenger gets it lots worse with the shorter shield. I also understand that a vent or 2 in the OEM shield will break the vacuum created behind the shield and prevent the water from getting on the back of the windshield.

Need a Shorter Windshield
gibvel replied to Color01's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Like RedRider said, to lessen wind buffeting. Don't think it's THAT much of an issue anyway. You want it shorter you can cut it down or get a shorter aftermarket. It's not like it's something that can't be changed, or is a pain to change, if you want. Wonder if you could have gotten them to swap it out before you took delivery.......something to think about in the future, I guess. That being said, Clearview makes one that even taller than the stock shield. That one you can Rain-X or use Plexus on and have the water bead up so it's not so bad. -
For vertical there is a large knob on the left hand side at the bottom of the faring just below the cigarette lighter. As far as the horizontal adjustment there is a large, long phillips head screw on the right side sticking out of the hole between the forks and faring at the bottom back of the faring.

Stand on the down side of the bike and grab the handle bar and pull it as close to the tank as you can get it. Grab the passenger rails or something else sturdy with the other hand. Put your butt on the down side of the seat and walk it back up. If the bike is on it's right side (sitting on the bike) make sure you put the kickstand down first or you'll be practicing the "walk it up" technique from the left side as soon as your finished walking it up from the right hand side.

Don't know why you say that, there are 3 floorboards and 3 brakes on this side.

If you're talking the Wed-Sat, like this year, then it would be the 10th through the 13th next year.

Do you have a date set or is it still too soon?

I second that.............That'll teach her to come to the site more often!! :rotf:

Sounds like the problem and sounds like you and Eck have got things under control!

What did it do? I suspect that it's the connections in the faring. Lots of people have had the problem with the controller. Either it comes on and the buttons won't work or it will not come on at all. Either case, most of the time, it can be linked to the connectors for the radio and or handlebar controller unit inside the faring. The fix is to split the faring and take all the audio connectors apart, clean them, put dielectric grease on them and then put them back together. There are also some connectors to the rear audio/intercom/CB under the passengers seat that could use the same treatment. Hope this helps you out. I'll look for Freebird's "how to split your faring" tech article and post a link to it. Here it is: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=494&highlight=splitting+faring If you have an MP3 player or a GPS unit this might be a good opportunity to hook up a "Y" splitter on the auxiliary input plug so you can run a cable to the handle bars for inputing the output of either of those devices to the auxiliary of the stereo and leave the one in the cassette compartment free for a second input.

Tap the float bowls with the butt end of a screw driver and see if that helps. Have you used Seafoam lately. May be time to put some in (a can to a half a tank of gas), get it into the carbs and leave it sit over night. I'm sure others will be along to offer more suggestions.

Millennium edition. White and Cream paint with tan seats. I believe there were only 1000 made and they have a small plaque on the trunk with which number they are in the production. http://www.motorcyclingblog.com/pictures/yamaha-royal-star-venture-2000.jpg

BackOff LED License Plate Frame Wiring
gibvel replied to bmxndad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Excellent! Thanks!! Question: Why did you splice into the wires under the drivers seat and not go into the back of the license plate? Easier, less conspicuous wire routing? -
Frog Man, Just did the Marshall mod. with the fold downs. The total cost, for both antennas and all associated parts, was about $1.00 cheaper (with shipping) than I could get 1 OEM CB antenna for, the cheapest I could find, without shipping. One note, I did not have to buy the 12' cable that would go from the AM/FM antenna to the front faring. I did have to purchase the connectors that go on the antenna mount for the AM/FM side though. Got a couple at Radio Shack. Another way is to use this write up, by Steve Bumgardner, in the Tech Section to transform yours to a single antenna: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11486&highlight=antenna Remember to set your SWR no matter what you get!

BackOff LED License Plate Frame Wiring
gibvel replied to bmxndad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Do you have a brake light cluster as well? Looks pretty cool! Can you elaborate on the installation a little. Any drilling or was it, pretty much just stick it on and go? Wiring pretty simple? -
So, how does one go about finding this leak? Does anyone have photos of said leak or photos of where to be looking for it? Can't say this is my problem but I'm looking at all possibilities. Thanks

Guess it would be worth getting the sequential then. Heck the rider never has to see it, right?
