I don't believe it will work and even if it does you've be better off, cost wise, to do the Marshall mod: http://www.bludolphintravel.com/gmg/marshallmod.htm All the parts, including the fold downs (some people don't like these because they have slop in them and wobble back and forth), with shipping, cost a total of $105. The new OEM CB antenna will run you about $150 to $170 for just the one antenna.

Yup, this is what I have. There is a thin rubber "plate" under the metal plate in the trunk on mine. Then there is a thicker rubber "bumper" that runs from left to right across the width of the trunk on the back rail of the bracket. This part would be: #87 - Damper - 4XY-2847N-00-00 - $10.33 on the parts fiche under Travel bag. So there you have all the parts necessary to do the trunk upgrade.

I don't think the brakes are all THAT touchy. If you're used to keeping your heel on the floorboard when you stop then you, probably, won't have a problem with the rear brake.

Okay, you're hurt so I won't pick on you but I just had to laugh when I saw that! So many things come to mind!! Glad your not too bad off and, definitely, glad you're still with us to write about it!!

But us 2nd gen. riders are used to the whine.

May just have missed mine or it didn't register when I did the CB. I'll have to look for sure. So, I guess, the rubber pad in my list goes on the outside of the trunk while the metal plate goes on the inside, unlike what is shown in the parts fiche. Thanks for the addition Don!

I think I listed the rubber plate in my list but it shows it on the inside in the fiche. I, pretty sure that you're right though. I don't remember seeing anything other than the plate on the inside of mine. But, you know, I don't remember any rubber plate on mine, when I took it off to do the CB, either. Hmmm

I asked Garmin the question and the recommend using no more than 2GB cards as anything over 2 will "will limit the units performance in using the data quickly."

I might also add that the 550 has text to speech which give you street names as well. The 450 does not have that feature either.

Congrats Brian!! Just in case you wonder what you can get me for my birthday...

Hmmm 2nd post is a little off topic, huh?Might want to start a new topic if you want anyone to see that post. For the map go to: http://www.epgsoft.com/VisitedStatesMap/index.html check the appropriate boxes and save the map to your computer (I save it to the desktop so it's easier to find). If you're going to put it in your signature I'd save it in the small format. Then go to "user CP" in the box on the left of the screen. Click "edit signature". If you want to put a quote or something in the signature type that in the box. then scroll down to the "upload signature picture" box. Select option 2 and browse. Find the picture on your desktop and click it to insert it in the box. Click "upload" then click "save signature". and you're finished.

I got lucky. I have a 99 as well but, before I bought it, about 2 years ago, the owner went and Yamaha actually did the repair under warranty. As for the plates, I'm sure you could go to any parts fiche for any recent model year and purchase the plates and install them yourself. Wouldn't necessarily need a "kit". Just checked here and this is what I found: http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/default.aspx Put in all the pertinent info (I looked up a 2005 and a 2007, both the same parts). When you get to the fiche page, in the pull down on the right, go to Travel bag. The parts are: Left side of trunk (facing forward on bike): #88 - Plate 7 - 4XY-2846P-00-00 - $1.35 #89 - Plate Rubber 9 - 4XY-2849J-00-00 - $0.95 Right side of trunk #90 - Plate 8 - 4XY-2846R-00-00 - $1.33 #91 - Plate Rubber 11 - 4XY-2847T-00-00 - .095 #92 - Bolt Button Head - 92017-06016-00 - .095 The bolts it says you'll need 6 of and the extended price is $5.70. I don't even know if you'll need the bolt or if the existing bolts will work but, just to be on the safe side, I would order the bolts... but that's just me. Here are some other parts sites I go to. If you feel so inclined you could look for the best price. http://www.mrcycles.com/fiche_select.asp?vcc=Motorcycles&mfg=Yamaha#SDOWN http://www.motogrid.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/2/yamaha.aspx http://www.flatoutmotorcycles.com/ Hope this helps.

Wow, supposed to be standard issue from 2000 or 2001 on. Glad you found the problem. They should replace the whole trunk bottom under warranty. Wonder if the trunk comes on the bike in the crate or if that something the set-up guy puts on. If so, he done forgot them.
-
They are on the inside bottom of the trunk... under the foam pad. I'll try for a photo. That plate (with the hole in it) is at the latch side of the trunk on both sides.

Naw, I KNOW you ain't no fool!!

checking / changing oil final drive?
gibvel replied to Ken Parker's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If it's not the shock and you determine it is the rear end, it's possible that it's leaking out the drain plug at the bottom. There is a crush washer one that bolt. If it hasn't been changed out after a few changes it's possible that it could be leaking there. You should be able to tell if that's where it's coming from cause of residue. Let us know what you find! -
There should be some rectangular metal plates where the mounting screws go through the trunk. These plates are, roughly, 1.5 X 3.5 inches. like Brad said though, on an 05 they should be standard.

You're just a ridin' fool, my friend!!

Any word if 2009 Venturer will be EFI?
gibvel replied to frogmaster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Dealer I was at said, if there is one, it will be unchanged except for color. Obviously, it's a crap shoot! -
Don't know if he will though. Found out from the owner, after he'd left, that he'd just put it on consignment. He commented on my antenna switch and was asking about it though. BTW, Brad, the 08 is a pretty color!!

Utopia or Diamond R make backrests that should fit. http://www.diamondraccessories.com/yamaha/proddisplay.php?name=RSV%20Overstuffed%20Backrest http://www.utpr.com/rsv.html

Drove down to Coyote Motorsports, in Denver, pulled up right by an 06 Venture. Guy was dropping it off. I told him about the site. Guess we'll see if he stops by. If you do, I said something about the antenna to the owner and he said "It's got a 5 year warranty, of course it's covered". Hope he drops by!
