Notice for Purolator Pure One filter users...
gibvel replied to gibvel's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Most people with oil pressure gauges say that the pressure in this engine is very low to start with, however. It would be interesting to hear from someone who has a pressure gauge and uses the Pure-One and see what the oil pressure in their engine is compared to someone who doesn't uses the Pure-one.- 14 replies

I was just on the Purolator web site and found this interesting little piece of info. in their motorcycle oil filter section What About PureONE If you're thinking you want to install a PureONE oil filter on your bike, please think again. PureONE oil filters are designed for vehicles, not bikes. Because of PureONE's high efficiency, the motorcycle oil pump may not be able to handle the pressure. The Purolator motorcycle filter line is designed to meet the specific needs of a bike; therefore we highly recommend the use of a Purolator ML filter over a PureONE oil filter. What thinks ye all? Their recommended filter, per their application chart is the ML16817. They have another number down but it looks like a discontinued model ML19819 Purolator Motorcycle application guide

How do I identify a bad ignition coil?
gibvel replied to Tartan Terror's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Goose was saying that, the more he looked at the coils he was sent, he was becoming convinced that it wasn't the coils at all but the caps. You can unscrew the caps from the wires and take them apart. He found corrosion on most of the parts inside and cleaned the parts up... Caution, do not clean the ends of the resistor (small white cylinder thing in the middle) or you will totally destroy the cap. Hopefully he'll have some photos of the inside of a cap and what needs to be done to them. This would sure be great considering that cleaning the caps would be way better than spending lots of money on a new coil. -
1st, before keying up the mic., check to make sure that the antenna with the big black "load" in the middle is one the left side (when sitting on the bike) of the bike and the wire is running to the black box under the trunk. Then do what LilBeaver said. Unless you know a CB operator somewhere around you. I have a handheld so I can check. Maybe go to a truck stop. I'm sure the people in the truck stop would have a CB they wouldn't mind helping you check yours with.

Sounds to me like you have a bad spot on the sensor. What I'm thinking is that, when you really fill it the float goes so high that the wiper hits the bad spot making the computer think the tank is empty... thus the flashing. The gauge usually flashes when empty. I have a car that does the same thing. When filled, the gauge will dive to empty unless you take as corner fast or jerk the wheel violently while it's making it's decent. Then it will go back up and wait for a minute or so and then start it's way back down. Once you use some fuel, and the wiper makes contact again it stops. Maybe you could have it replaced under warranty.

About a minute while I finish putting on my gear.

Think that's what they were doing with Cody this year.

About half as many for me but I understand where you're coming from.

Unless that was an intent stated after the initial rally in FC. To be honest, the place you suggested is very intriguing to me and I was thinking that would be cool!! Seems like the first place with local support and people to organize the event wins though... no matter were that is.
-
As far as I remember there was no "original intent" to alternate between the US and Canada. I think the only intent was to hold the gathering somewhere somewhat "central" so that it would allow more people from more places to be able to attend.

If the dressing room is only 5' X 6" then no way.

Well, now. I'm not too sure how Kosher this whole thing is. In your first post you say, and I quote "Just submit your best FICTIONAL story about how down and out you are and I'll choose a winner based upon what I think is the best submission." Now the Fictional part is in all caps which places emphasis on that particular word. Sylvester's story, by his own admission, "This is a true story", is, in fact, a true story. Disqualification number one. The rules have further changed because of the random drawing. You clearly state you will choose the winner based upon what you think is the best submission, not by random drawing. Either way, I'm just teasing. Besides, you da boss!! Congrats Sylvester!!! Enjoy!!

Well, I'll take "Pony II" off your hands for... a song and you could, then, fulfill your quest for the mighty Goldwing.

I'm a little confused. On the GW site they don't have Orange or Silver for the 2010s.

Carb info. explination.
gibvel replied to gibvel's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Interesting!! I guess they figure most people are going to get into the throttle on these instead of being a Poko Joe, huh? -
Thanks, that's what I was thinking but I wanted to see if I was right. Where did you find this information, just in case it falls out of my old brain again.
-
Okay, I downloaded the service data spec. sheet for my 99... see attached. About halfway down page 1 it gives the CO% at which the carbs are supposed to be set. It appears that carbs 1 and 3 are to be set between apporximately 2.5~3.5% and 2 and 4 are supposed to be set between 3.5~4.5%. What gives and why would that have you set them differently. Let me see if I have the cylinder placement correct also. Sitting on the bike facing forward 1=LR, 2=LF, 3=RR, 4=RF I'm sure of 1 and 2 just can't remember 3 and 4.

I believe one of the photos shows, and has a caption that says, turn signal with brake light. Yeah, right at the top bottom left photo. The sections are independent of each other so the brake will only light up the center 1/3 of the strip. Same for each of the turn signals.
-
Yeah, I noticed the price. I would have considered them but that would be way too much with the brake light board soo. I canceled the light bar and Chris was very nice and quick about that. I did buy the light board from these guys. It's exactly the same board as Custom Dynamics but I think it's a little cheaper. I can't be sure because they don't offer the Genesis I board anymore. I have the Harley frame as well and I may have to do the cluster thing for the Harely lights later.
-
I went to cancel the Light bar off of my Chrome Glow order and the guy steered me toward these Flexible Arrays with turn signals . Seem pretty nice if you want Turn signals at the same time as brake lights. Joe was telling me that, even with the set up he's got, it's either turn signals or brake lights, not both. The turn signals will work to the point that you hit the brakes and then the brake lights dominate and the turn signals no longer flash. These look like they do all the tasks if that's what you need. Plus they're streamline, small and can be stuck virtually anywhere. Just an FYI if anyone is looking for something like this. He commented that they're "extremely bright"
