  1. That was my first thought too, Rick. After a re-read I decided he was talking about the two tubes that come out under the front cowlings. The ones that pass through the holders on the air filter housings. I know those are carb vents and wasn't sure where they connected to, back on the carbs, so I was going to let someone wiser than I expound on those tubes.

  3. So, What was the verdict on your valve shims? How many needed to be adjusted and were they tight or loose? Do you notice a difference in the way it runs, if so, what difference?

  6. As Godlover said the leveling links are one way to go. If you are vertically challenged, however, you may not be able to do this. Another thing that has been done is to mount a narrower tire on the front. A 130. This makes the bike turn in more quickly. Some have said that it makes handling at higher speeds "Squirely" and that the bike seems to follow tar snakes more. Another thing you can do is to lower the forks in the triple tree. This accomplishes the same thing as the leveling links but keeps the bike from growing taller in the saddle area. Then there's always practice, practice, practice. Always stop with the forks straight even if you're going to turn. This will alleviate some of the tippy feeling when stopping. Compared to a V-Twin you're gonna have to keep the RPMs up with the V-4. It lives well over 3K anything lower and it doesn't seem like there's as much power. Rev limiter is set at about 6,200 or so. Rev the sucker up until you feel the rev limiter kick in a few times and you'll learn how far you can wind her up. 5th is a true overdrive. Most people don't even think about using it until they hit 70 or so. Even at 75 I will down shift if I need to move quickly. Hope this helps.
  7. No, the ticking sound is coming from the fuel pump. The 2 or 3 ticks mean that the bowls are probably still full. If you ride every day that would be normal. If you let it sit, and the fuel in the bowls evaporates then it will pump for a longer time.
  8. Only problem I see with that, however, is that the one on the plate has hoses and valves included. The valves are used to keep the needles from bouncing around excessively. Honestly, the one on the plate isn't that much more expensive and it comes with all the parts you need. You're better off getting that.
  9. Either way it sounds like you may need to check the sync. on the carbs with the popping on decel.
  10. Those would work. They look like exactly the same gauge. You should be able to screw them to a plate. They should have threaded holes in the back.

  14. I could handle that. Sure liked the Flamed pearl blue and pewter pearl one that I saw. At least they offer more than 2 colors on the Ultra. I think I'd love the Vivid Purplish Blue 2010 Venture but the idiots at Yamaha felt that only Canada was good enough to get that color. Freakin idiots!! Have I mentioned that they're idiots?

  16. Bought a pair of these and they are pretty nice!! http://www.ldcomfort.com/ While the bicycle shorts may wick the moisture like the LDs it's the seams that will get your butt. The LDs are made so you don't sit on the seams.
  17. I agree with that as well. And I agree with why we squeeze the last bit out of the hose as well!!
  18. Very seriously doubt that it's close to a gallon of gas. I turn off the pump, hold the hose up and squeeze the handle every time I fill up. Maybe a quart tops but then I doubt that it's that much. EDIT: Just found an article that states that the American Petroleum Institute says about 1/3 of a gallon is left in the hose after the nozzle shuts off.
  19. Looks like the link from Rumboogy's post will get you an adapter that will plug into the 5 pin and put all the audio from the system to a 3.5mm ear bud plug. From what I can tell this will render anything that uses the mic inoperable for 2 way communication... The CB, and Intercom. http://plugup.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7&products_id=19 With the Edsets adapter, it appears to be a pass through set up. You'll still be able to use the mic for 2 way communications of the CB and Intercom but you'll have the choice of using helmet speakers or ear buds. On top of that, you can choose to, if using the helmet speakers, plug your MP-3 player right into the 3.5mm plug and pump your tunes through that instead of having to plug the MP-3 into the aux port of the cassette deck. http://www.edsets.com/edsets_adapters Is that pretty much it or am I off base here?

Mamma yamma had some great color combos in the early days of the 2nd Gen. Then they got lazy and it was some color and the midnight. Then they went with solid colors and now they're back to 2 tone but the second color is always black. I was excited to see the Blue on Blue color combination for 2010 until I realized that it was only a Canadian model. What is with these idiots?

  22. #1 heal up so you have no more pain. That is the first thing that you must do. You probably couldn't ride comfortably anyway and probably couldn't handle the bike well. When you can do everything you need to do to ride, without pain, then you can start to think about riding again. This will give your mind a chance to look at things in a broader frame as well. It will also give your family and friends time to heal mentally. Bottom line is you need to take time for your body and mind to heal and have a clear head to make the decision. You may decide that it's not worth it. You may decide that you need to take more time to let people heal. You may decide to take time off while you have kids and have them grow.
  23. The Cruise control unit is behind the left lower cowling. It's a cylinder about 3 or 4" in diameter and about 7or 8" long and one end is covered by a large rubber boot. The nuts for the cable are under that boot. Looking for the photo that shows this part... Second attached photo. The part is number 4 the rubber cap is number 6. Technically there are 5 cables in the throttle assembly. There is a junction box under the tank on the left. All 5 meet in this junction box. See attached photo. Cables 6 and 7 go from the throttle to the junction box. Cables 10 and 11 go from the junction box to the carb. Cable 23 goes from the junction to the Cruise control. Where are you trying to adjust the free play in the cable. If at the throttle itself then there is an adjustment just behind the throttle itself. When adjusting the cable the final test you should do is to turn the handlebars to the right till it hits the lock and make sure the throttle returns to zero. Is there a specific problem you're having?
