Gee, you should have said something. I had "around the house" stuff to do this last weekend but it would have been nice to meet up with you especially since you stayed in Loveland. Glad Jack showed you a good time. You'll have to ride back out next year and let me know.

Okay, just to clarify. Is it just the radio or is it all audio? Cassette, CB, intercom etc.. And all audio works with the headsets?
-
Here's the question. Are you trying to listen through a headset or the speakers? If you're trying to listen through the speakers you have to have the system set to speakers and not to headset. I hope this is the solution. Push the select button until you see "HS" then push either side of the up/down button to change from "HS" to "SP". This is if it's set the way I think it might be.

In What year were you 16, that might narrow it down some.

Help!! My dealer has let me down
gibvel replied to motorcycle_1300's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
You say that it sounded like it had a leak. Does it still sound that way. Have you had your head up between the cylinders to see if the carbs are seated properly on all 4 lower intake boots? When you're trying to put the carbs back on you can sometimes think you have them fully seated and they are not. The carb will actually buckle the boot and the carb won't be fully seated into the boot. You could also try carb cleaner sprayed around the boot points to see if there are any leaks. Hope you get it resolved quickly!! -
Hmmm wonder about brake fluid getting on it, maybe? They do sit, fairly, close to the clutch master cylinder. Seriously, if you get brake fluid on the plastic you will get crack after crack and the darn stuff will almost crumble... Don't ask me how I know. Or loc-tite has a bad way with plastic as well. Did this have a previous owner or are you the original owner?

What picture folder? Have you got a link?

Hope you have a happy one Buddy!!

Won't crank at all or turns over but doesn't start? Did you clean and tighten all the cables... ground on the chassis and cables on the starter .etc Just odd that the battery load tests fine but doesn't even crank it over. I went with a Deka that last time. Interstate the time before lasted, maybe, a year and got to the point where it barely turned it over and caught and it would reset the trip meter every time (2nd gen. BTW)

I use Ride-on. Dyna beads will not seal your tire if you get a puncture but Ride on is supposed to balance, seal, and keep your tires running cooler and lasting about 20% longer... haven't been able to verify the last. I was going to Denver when I hit something in the road. Thought it was a Rock as it made a ringing pop sound like you hear if you hit a rock just right. I rode 10 miles at 70 mph before the bike got squirrely and I stopped. There was a gash about 1/2" long in the tread about 1/2" from center. I'm sure that if I hadn't had Ride-on in the tire I would probably have crashed or had a hard time making it to the side of the road. I also started using Bike-on in my bicycle tires. I was walking the bike on the side of the road trying to find credit cards that a guy, who'd taken a lady's purse, had discarded on the side of the road. I got somewhere near 15 or 20 goat heads in the front and rear tires. 5 or 6 of those hissed when I pulled them out. I rode back home and I have not replaced the inner tubes. The tires lose no more air now than they did before I got the punctures and no more air than my wife's tires when I check them weekly. What can I say... The stuff works!!

Does the trip meter reset to 0 when you try to start it? To me it sounds like you've got a dead cell. I had an interstate that was only a year old, kept it on the battery minder and it got to the point where it would barely start the bike. Get it started and put a volt meter across the battery terminals. If you read in the neighborhood of 14V then your stator should be good. Might be the regulator as well. Have the battery load tested... although I had mine load tested and they said it was good. So that's a 2 edged sword. As for the oil, is it coming from the rubber drain tubes just behind the kickstand? That would be my guess. How full is the oil in the crankcase? If you fill these bikes over half way up the sight glass they have a tenancy to spit it out into the breather box and some may be leaking down the tubes.

Either that or I'm just an old fart who's never heard of the "new" version.

There's something at Home Depot or Lowe's that work for this, but I just can't remember, off hand, what it is. It's been so long since I did this fix on mine that I can't remember the product. Hopefully someone will chime in here and tell you what it is. In the mean time... BUMP!! Just thought to look on http://www.partshark.com/fiche_select2.asp?category=Motorcycles&make=Yamaha&year=1986&fveh=178&x=128&y=13 Part # 8, CAP 26H-26133-00-00, on the fiche. Costs $9.97 each. Just another way to go. -
Did it labor to turn the engine over? Mine did the exact same thing... reset the odometer but started the bike. Took the battery in and they said it was fine, not bad. But I got a new Deka battery and haven't had the same problem again. So the battery doesn't always test bad. What kind of battery is it. Mine was an Interstate that was only a year old. I kept it on the minder whenever I wasn't riding it for a few days. I'm saying it's battery.

You could always get a different windscreen PUIG, I believe, has a double bubble or a touring (it's not called that but I can't remember what they call it right now) windscreen that puts the air up higher. Had one on my YZF600R and it help tremendously with the wind and wind noise. Okay, I was off. It's Zero Gravity that has a Sport touring windscreen. That's what mine was. http://www.zerogravity-racing.com/product_page.php?pn=161

You should be able to transfer the warranty at a Yamaha dealer. It's good for 5 years regardless who owns the bike.
