Handling Question
OutKast replied to Reddog170's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Tire condition? Are the tires old? Did the bike sit for years in one spot with this tire? Jack it up or put on centerstand. Can you move the swingarm left to right? -
4 -16-11 any body making this ride??????????
OutKast replied to painterman67's topic in Watering Hole
Come up to Roanoke, have lunch with us, and go to the Bike Fest! -
I put 07 RK's on mine. They were left stock with NO drilling. Seems to run great without any jetting. Just as fast as any other 2nd gen. They will leave some "raw" pipe exposed at the front, but will work OK. The stock mufflers go up on there a really long way. If your new backets are made according to the drawings in the tech section line up with all the bolt holes, that is as far as the muffler will go on. That is why if you search the threads, there are many references to a wider clamp they get at the harley dealers. They leave the clamp hang over the front of the mufflers just enough to cover the raw pipe so all you see is chrome.

Cruise Control Not Working
OutKast replied to IdahoRon's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Joe- don't know about the gearing, but the fact it will not engage below 45 or above 85 is documented in the second gen owners manual. -
Cruise Control dis-engaging
OutKast replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Correct. The cable adjustment will only slow the "engagement delay". It will not have any effect on the cruise dropping out. -

Take the left leg cowling off and I if I remember it is really obvious. Some kind of motor which turns a cam which pulls the cable. It is a standard motorcycle style cable. Standard motorcycle/bicycle type adjuster where you run the nut up and it pushes the cable housing out to take up the slack. Same as adjusting clutch cable on smaller motorcycles. Sorry, don't have any kind of picture. -
Pre-trip maintenance tips please
OutKast replied to ThomWill's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
being an 05, flush & change brake and clutch fluids, and the rear differential oil, if they haven't been done. Check all brake pads. It is still the stock battery? Consult the owner manual for anything else they might list. -
Cruise Control dis-engaging
OutKast replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
seems all ventures have "some" delay when activating the cruise. Check inside the left lower cowling. My throttle cable was backed all the way off, and had almost 1/2" of slack. I adjusted it to have almost no slack. The 10 second delay is now 2 seconds. Hope this helps some. This adjustment has nothing to do with the cruise "dropping' though. -

Another thing that turns it off is dropping more than 5mph below setpoint. If a heavy headwind gust slows it down 5 mph it will drop out. -
Dang. Been on vacation. I will take (3) of the 5-3/4 if not much trouble. If it is too much trouble, I won't cry or fuss! OutKast

Need new battery - what part #
OutKast replied to nkbjones's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Stock yuasa YXT20L-BS. Deka AGM is ETX20-L, available in classifieds from Skydoc 17 for $96 including shipping. At advance auto, the magnapower use the deka no, ETX20-L. The standard autocraft battery uses a shortened Yuasa number, 20L-BS. Missed you for some time Nate. Maybe gonna give up selling and get back to riding? or just looking cheap battery to sell with? If you don't remember me, I used the handle "Bubba" back then. Hope the numbers help, and things are going good for you! My factory battery in the 04 finally gave out last week. 7 years and 57,000 miles. I replaced it with the Yuasa Upgrade YTX20HL-BS for $112 at the stealer. 40 more cca than the standard. -

Removed all my badges
OutKast replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Check out my gallery. I have also removed tank bibb, rotor covers, and all chrome from front fender. Alot more to do, but has been a busy winter. Rear fender chrome next. Considering Marshall Mod single antenna in black as funds allow. -
My 04 had 14k on it when I bought it, and now has 57k. I never have changed the fuel filter. Is it time?

Make a cassette tape of harley sounds. Crank it up through the intercom. "forget" to plug yours in. And please put your nutz back where they belong.

Painterman - Advance around here quit stocking them in the stores, but still has them in the warehouse. Ask at the counter. They should have them no later than next day.

Replacing fairing clear protectors
OutKast replied to jryan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I know one member makes them in stainless, and I think a member makes them in smoke or black. Check "member vendors" in the classifieds first. -
Sorry, it is the second gens that will not activate above 85 mph indicated, or about 80 by GPS. This is stated in the manual.

Rust? Aren't BBs copper? Are you putting water in your tires? The steel rim on a car does not rust inside except in extreme cases.

Generally accepted practice is not to run a tire over 7 years old. If you will wear the tire out before it is 7 years old, it is not really a big concern. My dad had a michelin explode on a motorhome he had bought used, and did not know how old the tires were, but had plenty of tread. He went to michelin to try to make them "make good" on it. They would not because the date code was like 12 years old. They told him to replace all the tires immediately Tires with 2 year old date codes are common. The real issue with the code is when buying from a small dealler who may have had the tire sitting around for 5 years. Also when buying a used bike that may have sat for a long time.

A lot are saying not to let the wife on first. Mine usually gets on first. Pic of my 130lb wife handling a 2nd gen with my 220lb rump on the back. She has minor carpal tunnel in both wrists, and her left ankle was crushed when a car hit her bike aout 3 yrs ago. She does the "stand and squeeze the tank with the legs" method. As i stand up on the board (my legs dont bend good anymore) I am careful to lean on the seat to keep my weight centered. Try putting the kickstand on a 2x4 so it is more level and help you hold it while she practices in the driveway.

The CB on the second gen will direct output to speakers, no problem. The mic is another animal. Someone makes a hand-held mic for a harley, but harley uses a different connector from the metrics. Maybe somebody else here knows how to adapt one. I would think one obstacle would be the handlebar mounted PTT button that would have to be re-routed through the PTT button on the hand held mic.
