antidives and fork oil service
OutKast replied to garyS-NJ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The most common fix is to replace the springs with progressives, cut the spacers to suit, then disconnect or blank off antidives. if you are not into that, guess you just clean them. -
Are you sure it works in reverse? A boat compass I had that was mounted on a bracket off the dash, when the E faced you, you were headed east.

Fuel Tank Arithmetic (I HATE math with a passion!)
OutKast replied to Semi-retired's topic in Watering Hole
my second gen always got better mileage with the back seat full, even if it was just a duffle bag. think it creates turbulance in there at speed when it is empty. my brother gets better mileage with his lunch cooler strapped on the rear seat. -
Carb sync confirmation
OutKast replied to videoarizona's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
mine got better mileage on highway with the back seat full. even just a duffle bag. think when seat is open it developes turbulance in front of the trunk. -
heads are different, exhaust ports at different angles, exhaust will not mount up. first gen ties diagonal cylinders, second gen ties both on same side. The RSTD "fins" will not mount to the first gen cylinders. fins have 3 bolts in a triangle, first gen trim only 2 screws. The only thing really different on the early RSTD is smaller carbs. later second gen boots and carbs should be direct swap. Not sure if first gen carbs direct swap or not. why force the old TCI when second gen DYNA 3000 is a top notch upgrade? Later carbs and a vmax gear should be a lot easier than making a first gen engine work. Pegscraper has the experience upgrading an early RSTD.

Stirring the pot...Venture MKII vs GoldWing Aspencade GL1200
OutKast replied to VanRiver's topic in Watering Hole
I had three 1200 wings over the years, and prefer the MkII. While the wing has a flat power band, the venture has more in the usable range. For the long legged like me, the flat wing engine pushes the feet too far back. Best yet, the venture just sounds stronger. -
yeah you have to cross the rear to mv85hb. within a hair of the stock size.

Use the second gen parts. Absolutely. Positively. For sure. REVIEW THE SECOND GEN FICHE. -
1984 Venture Royale
OutKast replied to rwhitehead's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
i got the second gen one piece part and the clutch upgrade kit w/ gasket both from skydoc_17. You have to pull the clutch basket anyway. On any first gen, might as well do both at same time and never have to go back in! -
first gen am/fm power indicator on but no display
OutKast replied to OutKast's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Hmmmmmmm. so i just can't unplug the tape player and pull it out and still have everything else work like I did on my second gen? -
first gen am/fm power indicator on but no display
OutKast replied to OutKast's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
After chatting with PO Kitty, she left a Bon Jovi tape in there. The auto reverse does not work. It was at the end. When I hit the pothole it bottomed out and the tape dropped down and engaged the player. But since at end of tape it did not play. I'll sure be glad to get them progressives installed. -
first gen am/fm power indicator on but no display
OutKast replied to OutKast's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
This was an interesting test. I get YES all across the front line, saying amp is bad. But I also get a YES to hearing the relay click (and speaker crackle) when turning on tuner with intercom off, saying the tuner is bad. BUT THEN I WENT TO THE NEXT TEST. WHEN I PUSHED THE STOP BUTTON ON THE CASSETTE THE TUNER CAME ON. WOOOOO HOOOO How this got activated by hitting a pothole is somewhat a mystery. My boy likes to climb on it and push buttons but I never use the cassette and the weather cover is on it. Anyway all is well in my world now. Hope videoarizona gets somewhere. -
first gen am/fm power indicator on but no display
OutKast replied to OutKast's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Yes. But even if mute is activated, would not the tuner display be on? -
first gen am/fm power indicator on but no display
OutKast replied to OutKast's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Yes. As stated the power indicator lights up, just no display. -
Kevin - I already gave you one of these, I think the blue one. JYA1NL00 9 HA010681 8/86 87 Royale Gold/Creme presently 44k JYA2LW00 6 HA000475 9/86 87 Standard? Blue? presently 55k Does that make sense? Seems the later build date has lower serial number. The blue bike has later forks with antidive on sides and custom paint.

first gen am/fm power indicator on but no display
OutKast replied to OutKast's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
l had already removed and reinstalled the radio panel, but did it twice more, no luck. since the indicator comes on but not the display, it is probably inside the radio. -
Hit a winter pothole. Radio display went blank and fm stopped. Green indicator comes on, speakers "crackle" when turning on an off. Anyone got simple fix?

Unless they look and smell burnt or the facing is coming apart, the plates are probably ok. The steels should still be white. If you actually burned the plates, the steels will probably be discolored. If so they need replaced also. Get the spring kit with the extra full plate and cover gasket from skydoc17. Since you have a first gen consider pulling the clutch basket and replacing the shifter wheel with a one piece unit for a second gen. If a pin works loose in the existing unit you can't shift past that gear. I got mine from skydoc. The only hard part is getting the clutch basket bolt loose. Search the tech forum for more info.

The poor quality of current US chrome is because EPA regs pushed the cost of the good stuff beyond reach. Regulations of brass plumbing fittings have doubled the cost recently. We are using stainless pipe and fittings in lieu of brass now cause it is cheaper. Bought a stainless steel hose bibb this week because it was cheaper than the brass.

exhaust collector options
OutKast replied to jimmyenglish's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Interesting comment on the diagonal cylinders. I dont believe 2nd gens do that, do they? -
thanks Don. If he had given me his venturerider handle or his full name, or used a pm, i could have checked it out myself. i just found a message from him under the ad, so all is good. thanks
-
I am getting direct emails (not pm's) responses to an ad here. "email deleted to protect Brian". says his name is Brian and he is in Israel. references parts in my ad, but does not give his venturerider handle. There is a link that appears to be my ad, but I aint clicking it! Now I am pretty sure it is spam and treated it as such. But the email references this site, the specific parts in the ad (one side only saddlebag rail and driving light bracket) and uses my personal email. Anyone else get these emails?
