  1. Thanks Guys. Still sorting/packing every night this week, trying to get everything we need, but nothing else. Will have laptop along, seems most KOA have Wi-Fi and power. We have a National Park Service Annual pass we will be using at Grand Canyon. Will check back in tomorrow night.
  2. Bubba and Mamma will be pulling out of Roanoke VA on Sep 5th or 6th for a short ride to Los Angeles, CA to visit our daughter, a USC student. I will be piloting my 04 RSV w/ piggybacker XL, my wife is choosing to ride on her own VS700 Intruder. Been going crazy all my spare time for last three weeks. Fresh E3's on the Venture, fresh D404's on her much lighter Intruder, Fresh plugs, oil, carbtunes on both, new fork seals in the intruder. Packed tools and spare parts tonite, including bearings and seals for the piggy. We will be following mostly I-40 going out, seeing Cross Ministries, Cadillac Ranch, Grand canyon, Rt 66, and the Wigwam Motel. Coming back thru Vegas, Denver, Badlands, meeting up with an FJR rider in Mission SD on Sep 19 for the ride home. The only way we can afford this trip is camping. Suggestions on free/cheap camping??? We have picked up a National Parks annual pass. So, more to come if anybody interested. Guess I need to learn to post pics.
  3. Stebel assembly drawing on thier website shows battery to #30, horn from #87. Post Picture of the horn mounted inside fairing, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Is your speedometer RED??? How did you do that? I hate the green, thought it was LCD backlite that could not be changed. My other rides all have red dash lighting.
  5. Mine is 04 RSV also. 4 way flasher switch is on the right handlebar to the left of the cruise "res / accel" switch. It has a outline of a red triangle imprinted into the aluminum just to the right of the switch. The switch slides up vertically to activate. It is refered to as hazard switch in the owner's manual and is shown on page 3-7, and described on page 3-8. Looking in the front of the owner's manual, is states the copyright is by Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA. I think this is the first bike I have owned with hazard flashers. I cannot remember for sure if my 86 Honda GL1200 interstate had them, but none of the other maybe 20 bikes I have owned did not have them. Check and let us know.
  6. Hey, you passed within 2 miles of my house and didn't stop!! 2 miles the other side of my house is a DQ. I am approx 2 miles west of the intersection of the Blue Ridge Parkway and route 24. I know from the pics of the Mill Mountain Star Overlook that you passed by!!! September wife and I ride to Los Angelos to see my daughter, a USC Marching Trojan. But I think October is Clear!
  7. I just put a set of 05 RKs on. Looking into both ends of both pipes I could not see any difference. I could not see all the way through either one of them, some kind of offset in the middle, So not sure if I have a cat or not??? It does seem to me that one side sounds slightly different than the other, but my left side hearing is also slightly damaged.
  8. I wanted to remove mine, and thought just take the two screws out, remove the chrome, and put the screws back in. But in the center is a pin, held on the back with a spring clip. I could not easi;y get the clip off, and thought the hole in the center would look bad anyway. I do not think there is any way it would fall off even if both bolts fell out. So, if anybody can hook me up with a RSTD fender without holes for the trim, then I would offer my trim for sale or trade.
  9. Under that rubber plug is actually a U-joint that you have to line up with. Grab the u-joint with the coat hanger, and work the shaft by rocking the pumpkin with your other hand. Make sure you did not tear up the splines or the u-joint when they locked up and stalled the engine.
  10. Freebird/Don - You should also compare the years of the bikes. Maybe at some point a speed limiter was added or lowered by yamaha. I know my 04 slid right by 115 in fourth (uncorrected) but sleeperhawks 05 wont break 110 in any gear. I believe stock chevy silverado's 05 and afterward are speed limited at 90, to prevent litigation due to the factory speed rating of the tires. Anybody know the speed rating of the factory tires? Bet it's 110 that matches sleeperhawks. I would also bet the Dyna 3000 module overrides that speed limiter!! I do NOT proclaim any of this as fact, just thoughts.
  11. Hey Trimster - No luck on the M&E group invite, Holiday weekend and too short notice I guess. WIfe and I would like to meet you guys though, and maybe a few other couples from my CMA chapter. If you need to order brake pads or anything else, feel free to send them here for pickup when you get to Roanoke. I have tools, including a bike jack, but nothing to set your carbs. Let me know if I can do anything for ya. Bubba
  12. Sent Trimster a PM. I would like to meet him as we are planning our first cross-country motorcycle trip for sept. That is 4th of July weekend. Any interest in a M&E. Blue Ridge Parkway to Peaks of Otter is two miles east of my house, DQ is two miles west!!
  13. I live in Vinton, a town in roanoke county that also actually touches roanoke city. Very familiar with most of Smith Mountain Lake also. Let me know if I can be of any assistance!!! If MiniMuffin puts together that M&E, I have large back yard for camping!!!!
  14. I was cool to see you again, Beer30. I was showing some of the other CMA your custom work before you showed up there in person. Working the water booth, I did not get to see what others were riding as they walked by, so did not to get to promote VentureRiders much.
  15. I used to use a HJC SyMAX, wife is currently using a HJC CL-MAX. I do not believe ANY manufacturer has a modular that meets SNELL Since my open face HJC AC-3 meets SNELL, why do the modulars not? I really do not care about the snell. Just wondering!!!!!!
  16. I used propane so as not to overdo it, heated it one till ready to cook griddle cakes (ie spit on it, and it instantly sizzles away) and the vise grips took them right out. Strange thing was that rotor just got warm, and wheel around bolt didn't even feel warm, so I guess no damage to wheel. 9:40 pm here on the east coast. Bed time, get blue loctite and grease for driveline tommorrow and put her back on road. Pieces of metal from the inside pad had welded themselves onto the rotor. BBAAAADDD scoring. Thanks
  17. Got the wheel off and on the ground. Can't get the allen head bolts out. I have compared it with the new ones which appear to have standard right hand threads. The allen head socket already looked tweeaked, and had to tap allen wrench in to get it to seat. BUT THE DING_DONG THINGS WILL NOT BUDGE!! Stripped one head out, so tried the ole visegrips, but no luck. The rotor was chewed when I bought the bike at 14,000 miles, and now it seems it has be replaced once already and tightened by a gorilla. ANY SUGGESTIONS? Bubba
  18. Wife & I planning our first cross country. We live in VA, and our daughter attends USC in LA, CA. Fellow gave me a great idea other day. Ship a box of laundry to our daughter for the return trip. When we get there, empty the box into the trailer and fill the box with the dirties and ship it back. Shipping laundry is as cheap as laundry machines, and more time for riding. The way he used this idea is he packed a self-addressed box when he went to a far off rallye, and threw his dirties and souveniers in it till it was full, then shipped it home.
  19. Used CB all day today during group CMA ride. Leaving a parking lot, I tooted my weak stock horn to get someone yakking to get with the program. But man, my horn was actually LOUD! WOW! Got to the end of my ride and pulled up beside my wife's bike and told her "CHECK THIS OUT!". It was so loud it about knocked me off the bike. She said "sounds as cheesy as it always does". I took my helmet off and hit it again. Same weak toot. unplugged the helmet, switched to the speakers, hit the horn and BAM, horn sounds out of speakers (remember, headset and therefore mic are not plugged in). Turn off CB and leave just radio on and no problem. HELP!!! If I turn up the CB loud and forget and blow the horn, I am gonna be hurting!
  20. Its 1979. On my dads 1973 CB350. Stupid kid in cutoffs, sneakers, no shirt, open face with glasses. Crest a hill on open country ride at 60 mph. Smack into a swarm of locusts. My entire chest and face was lightly bruised.
  21. Hang the helmet on the helmet hook? On day, he will come out of a restaurant to find some moron with a biker vendeta has poured a soda, or a beer, or an ice cream cone in his helmet. If I leave the bike where I can't see it, helmets are in the trunk.
  22. Okay, Zumo 550 says it can talk to Bluetooth cell phones and headsets. My cell phone is compatible. Just purchased new headsets connected to factory intercom. Also, the audio out from the Zumo simply plugs into the Aux port of the cass player. How do I get the corded headset mic to talk into the mic port of the Zumo?
  23. Mine acts like it does not set, but when I release the throttle, it drops 5 mph then picks back up. This is explained in my thread Cruise Control Delay Part 2. Sorry, I do not know how to link to other threads in a post. Go to "search" at the top menu bar, and put in "cruise control". Read both my threads "part I" and "part II" and see if yours is really acting like mine. All the responses I got on here before involved hitting the "accel" button immediately after hitting the "send". In "part II" I described my symptoms in more detail, and did not get any info that helped. I have not however, pulled the left leg cowling and checked for slack in the cable yet. It is either too cold, or I have to work. Check it out and let me know if yours is acting the same, or is truly not setting at all.. If it does not set at all, it is a break somewhere in the "cancel" circuit, which loops thru both brake switches, the cancel switch, and a speed sensor switch somewhere. Sorry, I dont' have a wiring diagram. I read it all while researching my problem, brake switches stuck on, shorts at the cancel switch, cancel switch stuck down, etc.
  24. I ride mostly solo, and my wife rides separate on her intruder. So, just got a pair of "dual mode" headsets and a JMCB for her bike. My question is on the Venture can I make the audio play thru the speakers, while at the same time the CB comes thru the headset? I can adjust the volume of the Audio, CB and IC all individually. There seems to be separate HS and SP settings under both the Audio and CB menus, but when I change it in one location, the other changes also.
  25. Tap "set" button, then tap "accel" button. Tried that, bunch of times. In my previous thread, one response stated that once the "set" light comes on, it is good to go. The light comes on less than 1 sec after tapping "set" button, but still drops 5 mph when throttle released.
