  1. Correct. THESE NEW ORDINANCES APPLY ONLY INSIDE THE MYRTLE BEACH CITY LIMITS, NOT TO NORTH MYRTLE OR HORRY COUNTY. Most MB activities were outside the MB City limits anyway, and the rest have simply moved outside the limits to North Myrtle or Murrells inlet. Bubba is going as part of CMA. However, where Bubba stays in the state campground, the entrance is actually a few hundred yards inside the city limits. Therefore, Mamma's straight pipe Intruder will stay home (Hey, Bubba will be able to listen to tunes!). Bikers should go and support the surrounding communties that want thier $$$. Check out the link from Blueslover above. The dealers and vendors are providing the info you need to avoid going into the city limits and spending any $$$ there. It is just a little farther from Murrells to North out around the city limits. Bubba - not as funny as Boomer, but will have his fun at MB
  2. Bubba has E3s stock size both ends. Have about 9000 miles on them. NO howl slowing down. Pretty good howl when Bubba lays her over on the ramps and twisties. Done it from day one.
  3. Bubba has "stock" size E3s. REAR IS 15 INCH MV85B15 on rear. Mine does not have the "H". 150/80-16 on front. Mine does not have the "HB". The MT90-16 front is Dunlops eqivalant to the 130/90-16.
  4. Stayed at one near Meadows Of Dan VA called Willville. Less than 1/2m off parkway. Was a URAL meet going on while our CMA chapter was there. http://www.willvillebikecamp.com/
  5. Sorry Mamma & Bubba couldn't make. Now as I understand it, after dark the mild mannered Inhaler becomes the superhuman EXHALER! Did I get that right?? Dang, I stayed overnight at his house once, and I didn't get to meet the EXHALER.
  6. Have the unit on my wifes Intruder. Works well, when she uses the right volume button. can plug an MP3 right in. She plugs her "voice ready" mp3 capable cell phone in. She can listen to tunes, and when the phone rings is says to her "call from so-and-so". She can then decide wether to pull over now and call them back, or wait till later. Any kind of cell phone integrator adds big bucks though. Check around for other providers. I think "wing stuff". They sell packaged deals alot cheaper than directly from J&M. Any of the portable CB kits cost almost as much, have wires everywhere, and lack the performace. MAKE SURE YOU TUNE THE ANTENA. Check the tech section for details.
  7. Bubba only wears cowboy boots, but only the kind with a square toe (Dingo style) and rubber soles. Check Milwaukee for lowest cost, Double H for better quality. Some have rear entry zippers for us old guys. I prefer heel shifters.
  8. Thanks for the offer, Riderduke. Just got link from Goose to order. I can pop it in. Want to go to SC bad, but dont think I can make it happen. Finances way too tight right now.
  9. Thanks - I didn't see any place to order, so thought I had to buy through a retailer. I will call them. Thanks Goose.
  10. Nice. Great deal
  11. At 31k miles, have developed the clutch slip. Please link me to the low cost PCW clutch kit provider. Thanks.
  12. Nate & Duke - Bubba got the slip now. What is the cheap source for the parts??
  13. Thanks Snaggle. I can see why that helps. I notice the best increase was with amber DRLs, not bright white. The amber does not glare.
  14. So what is a "triangulated" DRL??
  15. I vote stock passing lights with low beams. MORE lights increases visibility. BRIGHTER lights blind others. I usually do not even run the brights in the country, as it makes the new reflective road signs blind me. I would never run a modulator or a flashing brake light. Our ex road captian had some kind of flashing brake light thing, and tied into his amber rear signals so they all flashed. It was very attention getting, but also very confusing. More than once he turned and the bikes behind him didn't expect it. Brighter headlamps wash out your own turn signals. I will upgrade the front running lamps before I consider buying the passing lamps. Then the next priority is convertig the rear signals to full run/turn/brake, the led type that have amber signals and red brakes. I have upgraded to a silverstar bulb. I think I am in the 30% "male pattern blindness". At least I still have all my hair. I have more sucess staying invisible and relying on my own god-given "spider-sense" then expecting others to yeild to my "display of candlepower". God will tell me when it is time, and I don't want to be remembered as a law breaking PITA.
  16. God be with you. My family appreciates your service.
  17. In VA, you go to the DMV and file for an "abandoned vehicle title", they will provide you the name and address on the title. You then send a registered letter to the "last known address". If it comes back "undeliverable" or does not come back at all for 30 days, then you just go back to DMV and pick up your title. HOWEVER, if they contest and want the bike back, going foward with the MECHANIC"S LEIN is very difficult. But if they don't know that, storage fees would probably keep them from pursueing the bike I am sure somebody here has a frame and matching title to help you out!
  18. Pilot - I do know that there is a difference in the way the mike operates on the J&M vs Venture. As stated the 5 pin venture cable operates the mike in "dynamic" mode, while on the 6 pin cable when connected to the J&M the extra wire "pre-amps" the mike. The Harley uses an 8pin setup, do not know why. So, I do not know if the mike output power is the same on both systems, but I assume since it is "pre-amp" on the J&M that it is a stronger signal. Buddy, I do not know the pinouts, but have both the 5 pin cable and 6 pin, and both have identical 8 pin connectors at the top. Can I just use a continuity test and follow them up the 5 pin cable, then back down the 6 pin? I have an electrical tester. Is there a way I can check the power output of the mike on the J&M for you to compare with the mike output on the Venture? or does this matter?
  19. I have your adapter to use Zumo on my venture, and it works great!!! Can you make something similar for the J&M CB unit on Mamma's bike? The J&M already has an auxiliary input jack, but no way to talk back to the device, same as the factory unit on Venture. To use anything other than a music player, you have to buy a $270 "integrator" plus another $150 "adapter" for each device you want to integrate. My understanding is the integrator's purpose is just to prioritze all the devices so only one is talking at a time. But the two ways I would like to use it would be only one "mixed" use device at a time, with the device providing it's own internal prioritization. Option one. We can currently plug her cell with internal MP3 right onto the stereo aux male plug provided, and listen to music and hear the phone ring. Since her phone has speech capability, she can hear it say "Call From Bubba". She can answer and hear me talk. This adapter would be something like a standard 3.5 stereo female on one end, and a male "triple" 3.5 one the other end with the mike signal tied into the extra contact. Option two - Mounting my zumo on her bike. Similar to your current adapter. The big change: Both our headsets are "dual-mode" type mikes. Tied to a factory unit on goldwing or venture, it is a 5 wire setup and the mike operates "dynamic". But when I change to her bike, I switch to a 6 wire lower cord and the mike operates "pre-amplified". So , my limited electronics assumes you would need to do something different inside your "magic" pvc tube so the mike output is at the proper power. If you can make the Zumo adapter, then I think for her cell phone I would need just an adapter to plug the 3.5 stero output and 2.5 mike input into one end, and have the common 3.5 male triple on the other end to plug into her phone. If you can make this, mine is free since my idea, huh? Maybe? Let me know what other info I can provide to help if you are willing to try!
  20. How about "Varina Man"? or "The Man from Varina"?
  21. My wife rode her 1986 vs700 suzuki intruder (now an 800 know as C50 boulevard, the same bike just with new badging) on a 6500 mile round trip from Virginia to Los Angelos and back, sometimes cranking out 700 mile days with no complaints except not enough cold protection when passing thru Vail Colorado. It is fitted with a Corbin Gunfighter seat. When in LA, when 19 yr old average size daughter, who had previously only ridded an old honda CM400t had no problem handling the bike at all. Whenever we get a larger bike for my wife, like a Vstar 1100 or VTX1300, I intend to keep the old intruder cause it is so much fun. If you buy a used one though, stick with the 1988 and newer VS800. The VS700 was only made 2 years, and some parts like rotors, calipers, etc. are different and hard to find. However, a 1988 VS800 Intruder is almost identical to a brand new C50 special Boulevard except for trim and badging. Hard parts are all the same and used parts cheap.
  22. If you filled to top of sight glass while the bibke was leaning on the side stand, that would do it. The bike must be sitting straight up and down when you check it, which is a PITA since 2nd gens do not have a centerstand. Just a little lean will be enough to change the reading. Fill it only to halfway between the marks. Filling it top the top mark sometimes causes leakage at the driveshaft seal.
  23. The heater I am talking about is a "jet blast" type, there is a tube about 8" dia and about 30" long. It has a high pressure fan in the back, and uses a pressure pump forcing the oil through an orfice, and lights with an electronic glow plug. Basically, it is a portable oil-fired furnace. It has a long list of fuels it will burn. All these are "light oil" fuels are very close in weight, and in BTU per gallon. The differences are slight processing differences, such as anti-gelling. The post above that had a problem with diesel probably had some summer formula or "off-road" type with out "anti-gel". "Off road" diesel and "#2 heating oil" are basically the same thing, but they are dyded with a high concentration of red dye only because there is not any road tax charged on them. One tank of red dyded fuel to cheat out of taxes will probably take at least 10 tanks of highway diesel to flush out the dye. K1 was much clearer with less odor, but is still basically the same weight oil. For years diesel was considered the "dirty" fuel, and K1 clear kerosene was considered much cleaner. My question is, what actually is the diesel "dirty" with??? I thought it was the sulpher. Since the new (Jun 08) highway deisel has basically no sulpher, and K1 has over 500 ppm, is the highway diesel actually now the "cleaner" fuel. The new diesel is also clearer with less odor. I can not visibly see any difference between the two. For $1.20 a gallon I am not gonna risk my health and burn diesel without knowing. But if I could save $1.20 a gal....................
  24. Just noticed this on our home page "recommended links". I am afraid to check that link out!!!! Dang artic blast. Too much computer time on my hands.
  25. Yes, I picked this car up in mid-90s for $1000. Promptly spent $5000 on the motor, and another $3000 on other things like convertor, shift kit, headers, front suspension kit, springs, shocks, dual exhaust, etc. Then probably another $3000 in replacement sheetmetal yet to be installed. I am out of work. Thieves have broke in twice in 2 years. Make someone a deal, can even deliver!
