  1. Mr. Maineac - I had not noticed the front being wider before, but it seems just eyeballing with a tape measure to the widest point that the front is indeed about 1/4" wider. No worries though, they were great. New last sept, then about 17000 miles before the rear showed cord. Front has plently left. Took on cross crounty trip from Virginia to LA and back home though SD pulling a 350 lb trailer, a trip from VA to mexico 2-up with trailer, another to Myrtle Beach 2-up with trailer, and 3 or 4 cross state trips, some 2-up some with trailer. Going to try Darkside. The front E3 is not being changed at this time.
  2. My poor venture has been on the jack for 11 days now. Ordered the BFG tire from these guys. Recieved order confirmation showing my shipping and billing addresses, and it stated I would receive tracking number within 48 hours. After 10 days of no response to emails and phone messages for a tracking number, they finally called me back. The cannot ship the tire because my SHIPPING address is different from the BILLING address on my credit card!!!! I live in a commercial district. All mail goes to the POB. The guy wanted me to change the BILLING address on the credit card to my SHIPPING address. I told him that if I did that, I would never receive my bill, and to cancel the order. I placed a new order at DiscountTire.com. They are out of stock, and it may be 14 days before they get it. I really need my bike. I never thought the BFG would be this much trouble to get. I guess all you other guys bought them all.
  3. Tx - check for slack in the cable at the cruise actuator. It is in the left side lower cowling near the horn. Mine was backed all the way off. Adjusted it all the other way, and still think there is too much slack. it holds within +/-1 mph as read on the gps. I dont have to do that stupid "push set, then push resume twice" stuff anymore either!!
  4. There is already one one the left side inner fairing. It is below the handle bars and you cannot see it sitting on the bike. But it is there. The wiring is very small and is served by a 5 amp fuse behind the right side lower fairing (Pain to get too). This is only good for small electronics, and has power only when the key is in accessory or on. My cell charger is plugged there. The fuse pops if I plug my air mattress pump here. There is a an additional mount on the left side just below the seats also. You should be able to see the round "pop-out". It is black plastic and in a black plastic panel. Mount one here, and wire 30 amp fuse and wiring directly to battery for anything heavy, like heated clothing or the pump for your air matteress if you camp.
  5. Who ate the two 12" subs? were they Italian? Cold cut? Maybe meatball? Come on, tell us what happened to the subs?
  6. My friend (Union Jack Ltd) has restored and repaired only MGs (and healeys) for almost 40 years. He has over 200 of these cars in his possesion at any time. Only the bonnets were aluminum. They were also very poor quality aluminum. Bondo would not stick, and they bent easily. Most were twisted when someone tried to "slam" the hood without removing the prop rod. Most of the aluminum bonnets junked years ago. It is a uni-body design. Front inner fenders, cowl, rocker panels and Rear fenders are welded to car and are structural. The aluminum bonnet was the "standard" one only, and was used on both B and B-GT. He has never seen a raised section C hood in Alum.
  7. Only the bonnets were aluminum, not the fenders. The inline 6 was known as MGC and had a bulge in the hood.
  8. The Garmin Zumo has (two) different volume controls. For the master volume, press the bottom left button on the "frame" of the unit, then press the + button repeatedly to max volume. You should see yellow bars on the screen. Then, go to "settings" (the wrench on bottom right of main menu) then "volume", set "navigation" to 100%, and try 70% for "mp3/audible". If the music still not loud, increase the mp3/audible percentage. This percentage may need to be changed when you change from mp3 to xm, depending on the signal strength of the mp3 memory card you are using. If you have a Zumo (assumption based on you have XM tied to it) why do you need a separate MP3 player, as it has one built it?
  9. WOW! Does this switch exist on a 2nd gen??? Could I switch the OD indicator to be a first gear indicator.
  10. OutKast

    D'OH!

Bubba thought about making some comment about how a 2nd gen would never have a problem like that, but Bubba hates it when them 1st gen guys do that, so he will take the high road and not say nuttin'.
  11. Didn't Bubba suggest you check all those, and especially those in the saddlebag and trunk frames 2 weeks ago under your post titled "sore back" where you stated you felt vibration in the seat. Jus' cuz hiz name is Bubba dunt mak im stewpid! Take the bags/trunk/seats off, and locktite everything. Also the latches and hinges inside all the boxes. And do not forget the shifter bolt, dag-nabit! Just ask Riderduke! The bolts holding the bags to the frame with the rubber washers do NOT need locktite.
  12. I did a bike blessing for a guy that was 82. He was riding a 1500 goldwing. he had never ridden a motorcycle until he was 81.
  13. Get the fan/cooling worked out, and send me a pic. I have heard of the gravel/acorn/whatever in the fan story before myself. Might be a mouse nest if not ridden often. Close enough for me to think about. Mamma needs to move up from her 700 intruder. I have been looking for a "classic" style for her, but she just seems to lean toward the "custom" style. I would like for whatever she gets to have tubeless rims.
  14. What year is the bike??? And your asking price???
  15. Could I plug into the disconnected connector under the tank and power something else? Is 5 amps enough for a heated grips? Or passing lamps? Or enough for an additional power outlet at the rear seat? Or is there already a connector for that?
  16. I used the blue. All the bolts I mentioned screw into metal. These are the one in the sabblebags and trunk FRAMES, not the ones holding the bags themselves on. The rubber washers under the bag screws keeps them from vibrating out.
  17. I thought it would be good to have them switched to use just while warming the bike up. But I saw a post from V7goose the other day in which he stated the carb heaters are also only powered when the bike is in gear, not during a nuetral warmup. Guess I need to check a wiring schematic and verify he is right.
  18. It really is not a big job. Bought my 04 with 14,000 miles on it. One grab bar missing one of the bolts, the other bar wiggled up and down. You could lift up and down the trunk about 1/2". The big bolt loose under the seat was letting the fender vibrate. The shifter fell off at about 18,000 miles. Riderduke showed me that one of the trim bolts on the side cover under the front seat is only for decoration and works on the shifter. That bolt is still there. the only noticeable vibration you should get is maybe a little if you lug the overdrive too low a speed. the OD is only good above about 65.
  19. Take your saddlebags off, and remove, locktite and re-install all the bolts in the saddlebag, trunk and rear fender framework. Some may already have fallen out. Remove seat and check the bolt under the seat that holds the fender to the frame. Mine had backed out allowing the fender to shake and the bolt head was hitting the bottom of the seat. Put locktite on the grab handle bolts while the seats are off. Locktite not needed on the seat bolts. While you are at it, remove the allen head bolt holding your shifter on and locktite it also. Those are also common to vibrate out over time. Fill the groove on the shifter shaft with grease while you have the bolt out.
  20. My biggest wonder is why they put an indicator on the OD? If I am in OD and try to upshift, no harm done. But if I try to take off and not in first, may stall the bike and drop it, or even maybe pull out in front of a truck then stall or no power and get squished. So, how do I make my OD indicator a first gear indicator?
  21. I would like to post my theory on syn oil / clutch slippage. I switched an older CM400t to syn with no problems. I switched on older GL1200 interstate with no clutch slippage. However, the oil drip behind the water pump quickly went from a drip to a leak requiring repair. A few time when cold (winter riding below 40 deg) I thought I noticed a slip in 4 or 5, but none when shifting or launching. It definately got worse after switching to syn, but I feel it was there before the switch. I feel certain my engine revs quicker with the syn. I believe the stock clutch spring is just barely adequate. so barely adequate that the few extra HP you pick up with the syn puts you over the line if your clutch spring is even slightly weakened. We do know that many have reported clutch slippage and upgraded the spring that have not used syn. I have not seen any reports of clutch slippage when using syn AND the upgraded spring. I definately have no slip now, and definately accelerates more with syn / upgraded spring than it did with dino / stock spring. Maybe FREEBIRD could make this a poll to test my theory. If you have experienced clutch slippage in 4th or 5th gear, what were you running? 1. dino oil / stock clutch spring 2. Dino oil / upgraded clutch spring 3. Syn oil / stock clutch spring 4. Syn oil / upgraded clutch spring I am reporting condition 1 and 3.
  22. Most RSV vibrations can be cured by synching the carbs.
  23. You can remove the tape deck without affecting anything else. You can mount any device that uses a walkman type jack and plug it into the aux port on the front of the tape deck, or if you have removed the tape deck plug into the jack left when the deck was removed. Some have mounted MP3 on handlebars or in the tape deck opening. Check in the "technical" read-only sections. Freebird has tech articles with pictures. One project was removing the tape deck and replacing with a equalizer. There is also one on upgrading the speakers. Many of the "starglide" conversions (removing trunk similar to electraglide) have removed the CB system from under the truck. I do not know of anybody totally removing the factory tuner (some because the intercom is integral to the tuner, some because the intercom is required to talk back to the bluetooth cell phone controller in a ZUMO, some because the CB is "controlled" by the tuner) from an RSV and installing something else from scratch, but I am sure somebody has. But quite a few have added music systems onto thier RSTD and will probably chime in with some help. I am sure any kind of "marine" (water resistant) unit would work. My old GL1200 interstate just had a regular head unit from a car, but had a faceplate I bought from JC Whitney that had a clear door that flipped down over the face to protect it from rain. I have not some a faceplate like that for sale for years though. I have removed the tape deck in its entirety. I listen to the MP3 built into my Zumo 550. Some have bought XM anttenas that plug into the ZUMO.
  24. A lot of the guys call these a "starglide". Type "starglide" into the search and find quite a few of them. I remember one even removed the rear seat and relocated the wiring under it.
  25. You talking about the actual lower fairings in front or your shins, or just the clear pieces hanging off the bottom of the headlight fairing?
