I am confused. My 1999 Venture called out for a Yamaha 3FV-13440-10-00 oil filter. My 2004 and my 2007 Ventures call out for a 5GH-13440-00-00. Some dealers give me one type, others give me the other type for my 2007. When I asked, they don't know the differance and claim you can use either one. I see after market brands call for the same one on most Yamaha, Honda, and Kawasaki bikes. Anyone have any knowledge?:confused24:

My Idea of camping is leaving the window open at the Best Western. After several hours on a motorcycle my wife and I need in this order.. Shower, cold beer, good steak, soft bed with heat/air conditioning.

The dealers here in north central wisconsin let you test drive. Antigo has two new 2008s and a midnight 2007. Where are you in MN?

My 1999, 2004, and 2007 have all been the same. Light/Low Fuel Mileage Odometer goes on about 4.5 gals down. I always try to refill within 40 miles, get about 40 miles to the gallon. The most I ever put in was 5.5 gallons. When you fill it will fill around the tube if you have patients.

I'm on my 3rd Royal Star Venture and 5th Royal Star. They all had the same front brake sqweel. Pads may be ok, check your manual for info on pad thickness. I put some pads behind the brake pads that stop most of the noise on my 2004. Also two of my Royal Stars had 50000+ miles, never changed a rotor.

I would like to put on Avons or Elite IIIs with a narrow white wall like Electra Glides have. But our only choice for white walls are the wide type that Bridgestone and Dunlop 404s have. Unless I'm missing something.

Why not just buy a Accord? Too big, too much.....

Chuck, What kind of mileage did you get from that tire? I was thinking of upgrading my wifes 2005 1700 silverado to a Stratoliner, but am concerned about tires. My 2005 Vulcan 2000 Classic LT I got rid of ate a $300 installed rear radial tire every 6000 miles. Her 1700 gets 12000 miles out of a $200 installed rear tire.

The 1300 is a good bike, bike sales are slow for everybody, Yamaha built too many, some dealers are overstocked with leftovers and some are not. I'm sure he will enjoy it.

Margaret, I'd like to move farther south. I have been all over this country several times, almost moved to Johnson City Tenn. a few years back. I doubt I'll ever move now, too many ties to this area. Just got back from a 120 mile ride, a little cool, about 40 degrees.
-
I have been in the south in the summer. Riding in 100+ is not for me. I suppose you get used to it. At least in heat you don't have to watch out for ice on the roads. I leaving for a ride at noon today, 42 degrees and sun today!

Here in north central Wisconsin my Venture sits from around Dec 1st to April 1st. Sometimes I can get it out in the winter for a warm day, but then I have to wash the salt off. Always have wanted to move south for a longer season. Even at 55 with 40 years of riding and 300,000+ miles, I still love that first ride. This year it was 66 miles on March 14th. Whats the best part of the country for the longest season?

Bartley, The Classic LT has unbeliveable roll on power anytime. I tried out a 2006 Stratoliner, thats what I really wanted, but too many things I didn't like. (small bags, ugly windshield and backrest, etc.) But the kicker was the price, I got the Vulcan 2000 for a lot less. A 2043 cc motor is something to love. But these big Vtwins have a problem. They eat tires, expensive tires. $300 back tire would last 6000 miles, $250 front tire 9000 miles. My wifes 1700 Road Star gets 12000 miles from a $200 back tire.
-
Allan, glad the 2004 has worked out well for you. Bought a 2006 Vulcan 2000 Classic LT after you bought my Venture. (temporary insanity) My current 2007 Venture has been flawless so far. 50,000+ miles on my 1996 Royal Star Tour Classic, 20,000+ on my 1999 Venture, 50,000+ on my 2001 Royal Star Tour Deluxe, all for the most part trouble free.

Lots of good ideas here. I ride alone because my wife rides her own bike. Make two models. One base model like the current bike, just minor changes. More motor, full gauges, EFI, etc. Than an upgrade model for you two up people, heated seats, etc (think wing).

I think there are more people swearing at Metzlers than by them.

I put the 4" shorter Showchrome on my 2007. I love it, I rode 66 miles in 35 degrees this weekend, you gotta love Wisconsin.. I'm 6'0" but my wife rides her own so I don't know how it affects the back seat.

I have put the studded Yamaha leather tank strap on all five on my Royal Stars. (three ventures) Go on Star Motorcycle's web site. Otherwise Hopnel makes a fake leather strap with a pouch you can buy from almost any dealer. I have a blue 2007 also, and a 2005 Road Star Midnight Silverado.

The Vision reminds me of a Ford that was built a ways back. The Edsel was also fairly well designed, but no one could get past the looks.
-
Eck, What kind do you have? I would like some for my 2007. Do the fringes fly around while you drive?

I have used motorcycle oil for many years. Our goverment came up with some rules that reduced the shear value of automobile oil, but not motorcycle oil a few years back to save our planet. I buy Valvoline 10w40 Motorcyle oil because of the higher shear value it holds up better in our engine/transmissions. Consumer Reports tested oils many years back and found little advantage to synthetic oils.

My perfect 2009 Venture. Stratoliner motor, full gauges like the Electa Glide, CD player instead of cassette, narrow white walls, same basic look as Royal Star Venture, and new cast wheels like my wifes 2005 Road Star Midnight Silverado. Oh, and still a 5 year warranty. What else?

I'm with you, if I had to choose between a Wing or the Electra Glide, the Harley would be my choice. The Electra Glide has most of the market, not the Wing. Go after the leader. I have a 2007 Venture, my 3rd Venture. I also had a 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 Classic LT that I bought instead of the Stratoliner I tried out. I would have bought the Stratoliner, it was a better bike, but the styling, windshield, small bags, etc. kept me from buying it. A Venture/Stratoliner could be a winner.

noise in rear shock
beyeker replied to kruser04rsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My 1999 Venture did not make the noise, my 2004 Venture did when cold, my 2007 Venture doesn't? -
Thanks, I was ordering from Donelson Cycle. 10% off with no WI sales tax and no shipping. The prices at North Country are 15% off, but $30 shipping on my order of about $300 - $400, still no WI sales tax. I am going to order from South Seattle, 25% off Yamaha list, shipping was $20.96 on $300 and no WI sales tax.
