  1. @Pasta Burner, yes they are, the Kuryakyn 7980 Longhorn Offset Dually Highway Peg with 1" Magnum quick clamps. A little pricey but well made and they let me ride many hours longer than otherwise I could. I can ride all day on this bike with my feet slightly extended. I have the positioning of these set more downward than straight forward. As long as my legs are extended greater than 90 degrees I'm good, takes the pressure off my knees. I would recommend them.   2. Hi @Pasta Burner, I attached mine up by the clutch fluid reservoir, left side handlebar. Not a lot of room there but it worked ok. It seems to be holding up just fine just don't forget some Locktight if you're using the style that I'm suggesting. Good luck, Mark

  4. I know I'm late with this but attached is what I gleaned off the Utopia site. I also have one that I need to adjust reward as it is too close to my back and after a while creates a pressure point. Hope this helps others that might want to install this backrest, Mark
  5. @Pasta Burner Your cup will fit tight, just make sure to use the Locktight otherwise the single screw attaching the cupholder to the clamp gets loose. @Marcarl Maybe he was TOLD to go for a long ride😐

  7. Hello all: I recently bought an inexpensive cup holder on line for my bikes. I like to sip on tea as I'm riding, especially this time of year. Well made and easy to attach. You'll need Locktight on the small bolt that attaches the holder to the locking mechanism, seems to be the only weak point. I see that my local Yamaha dealer in Guelph carries them now as well.   10. @XV1100SE great idea. I'd like to meet the Ontario group. My work schedule is flexible so most week days are good and we head to the cottage most weekends in the summer but flexible there too. Ouch, that sounds painful @saddlebum and too bad that happened during the summer of all seasons but never a good time to endure that. Good luck on a speedy recovery. Mark

  12. @FreebirdI might do that just out of curiosity but I suspect it would be costly. I inquired regarding the Valkyrie as I thought about changing the seat colour from black to brown and with the exchange rate and shipping it was $$$$. One can dream and maybe one day I'll have the motorcycle budget for that. The two tone seat colour does look sharp, Mark
  13. @MonsterBiker I use Frogg Toggs top and bottom and If I recall they were reasonably priced. The bottoms are actually called Toadz and I went up a size ( 2 XXL) to accommodate the Joe Rocket pants I wear. The bottoms have straps that can go around the bottom of your boot so they don't ride up your leg, They don't get used that often but when you need them...you're glad to have them. @VentureFar I've never tried the hood of my rain gear under the helmet. I always thought you would get a pressure point on your head. I'll have to try that next time I get caught in the rain, Mark
  14. Thanks for all the replies and that is a sweet looking bike. I checked the Corbin website to see what they still carry and they don't seem to make a seat for the first gen ventures any longer which is not surprising as there would be a limited demand for a thirty something year old bike. @Freebird the Corbin seat on my 99' Valk is well broken in with 60 thousand Km's on the odometer when I bought her. It is very firm but surprisingly comfortable on long rides and maybe a little cooler in the summer compared to the plusher first gen ventures, which are very comfortable. Corbin still offers a seat for the Valkyrie. @Pasta Burnernice looking seat you got there. It looks fairly plush compared to my Corbin and others I've seen. Adds a nice touch to your bike, Mark
  15. Hello all: just wondering if anyone can give me some of the history on the seat that I gleaned from the internet? I've never seen one before, have you? I assume it might be a Corbin as they do make seats of various colours/stitching/welts etc. This one has the original VR emblem on it, so was it offered by Yamaha way back when? I thought it looked pretty cool and wanted to share it with you. It shows me that a seat can really add to the overall look of the bike. I have a Corbin on my Valkyrie Interstate and it has so much more character than the stock seat and really adds something to the look of the bike. I saw a newer red Goldwing last summer with a white seat (not my first choice in a seat colour) with red accents and it really tied in nicely to the overall look of the bike. Mark
  16. Hi Kevin @Prairiehammer, I own three Yamaha Ventures to add to your list. 1. The first is an 84' Royale I bought new in May of 1985 VIN# JYA41W007EA000303. This bike is currently in the shop as there is a strange rattle in the crankcase. I can only hear it when it is tilting on its side slightly and has been doing so since I had the second gear fixed about 5 years ago, approximately 156,000 kms. 2. The second is an 86' Royale I purchased in 2019, JYA1UM008GA000330, Approximately 110,000 kms and there were 6 previous owners who all took very good care of this bike. 3. This is also a 84' Royale but I'm using it as a parts bike for my original. Its an interesting bike. The saddle bags, trunk and exhaust pipes are in great condition, better than my original Venture. However the performance of the engine is not good, actually in bad shape. The fellow I purchased it from said that these were all added to the bike from other Ventures over the years so I'm going to swap these out and put the OEM muffler back on and save the current Mac's for use in the future. Also, there's some other small chrome piece's I might also swap as well the radio, air controller and cruise all work as well so I'll be saving those as well. Vin # JYA41W007EA000897, approximately 150,000 kms, not licensed and 16 previous owners. The last two bikes mentioned are in storage so I can't check the date of manufacture but can send this info to you in the spring if you would like it. I be curious to know some of the history of the last two bikes if you can provide any. Thank-you, Mark
  17. @Marcarl Thanks for the advise. I'll try both of those ideas. The bike is in storage so will need to wait until the spring. I assume there's some adjustment in the floorboards as there is in the passenger foot pegs on the 84',.. That might make all the difference. Mark
  18. Hi Carl, @Marcarlthanks for the tip. I did get my wife on the back of the 86'VR and she said she found it uncomfortable as the passenger hand grips rubbed on her legs, yet the 84' was always comfortable enough. I thought the bike would be more comfortable than the 84'VR as the 86 has an adjustable backrest as well as passenger floorboards which I thought would make for a more comfortable ride. She might be somewhat biased because of what I previously said about including her in all motorcycle buying decisions. She is also the smart and practical one, as well as this will be my third bike. I also bought a beautiful 1999 Honda Valkyrie interstate two years ago, with her blessing. She figures who in there right mind needs 2 motorcycles let alone 3?? I never thought I would own 3, but when I saw the 86 and the beautiful condition it was in and the price, I could not, not buy it, I just love the look of the old Venture's. I was saving for the new Honda Goldwing or the Yamaha SVTC but soon realized I didn't want to part with over 30k on a new motorcycle, so for about 1/3 of that I purchased two bikes in the last couple of years. Also, sorry for the large pics. I'm not sure how to make them smaller, this is the default size. All the pics I've posted seem to default to XXL size, Mark
  19. Larry DR, good luck with your 83" VR, they are an amazing motorcycle and I hope you have many years of pleasurable riding as I have on my 84'VR which is still going strong. I bought mine new in 85' as it was a 84' leftover. I believe I paid $7,200 for it from Royale City Cycle in Guelph Ontario. I still have the receipt and all the paperwork from over the years. I traded a 78' Suzuki GS 1000 that had a Windjammer Fairing and Krauser bags and trunk. They gave me $1600 for that bike which was in great shape and I rode off the lot with the new VR 84' and I drove around in a $600 Ford LTD (early- mid 70's) for a couple years. I remember my Dad shaking his head and couldn't understand why I drove an old wreck of a car and yet had this big beautiful new motorcycle, although he never rode bikes so he never got it. Question for Snaggletooth: how did you secure the lower cowl to your 84'. I made an impulse buy this summer, and bought a lower cowl from NCK Salvage and Sports in Woodstock, ON to add to my 84'. I went in just to inquire and they had a maroon one in stock, same colour as my 84'VR so I bought it for $95, thinking I'd figure out how to attach it later. I was confident I could as I'd seen pictures of a blond 84' (it may have been yours) on this sight so I knew it could be done. I also bought an 86' VR in the fall 0f 2019 as an impulse buy from a nice guy in Binbrook, ON. He just had a stroke and said he'd never drive that bike again, although he had a sport bike which he was still hoping to ride. I went to view it and it was covered in a layer of dust but I could still see the shine beneath and no rust at all that I could see. I went back a couple days later for a test ride and discovered the sensor that kills the engine from the kickstand was seized so every time I let the clutch out the engine would die. Also discovered the front tire was flat. He said "the bike had been sitting for a while", but stored in his heated garage. I found an old insurance slip on the bike that suggested it may have been sitting around for many years and along with the sensor and flat tire, I would think that is true. Much to my surprise and delight, the stereo, air suspension and cruise all work fine as well the bike seemed mechanically sound (although I'm no mechanic) and drove beautifully. I've since had the controller for the air suspension touched up as it worked intermittently, and now works every time, thanks to Malcolm Dadd, owner of Mintztech Service in Mississauga, ON. Thanks to Venture.org for the thread on how to do this fix. Oh, I mention all this as I can see on the 86" the lower cowl attaches to the front engine crash guards. Do I need to replace the crash guards on the bike with a newer years 86'-93 crash bars or create some brackets to hold it in place? One word of caution to the membership and I'm sure most of you know this as you all seem like a very knowledgeable group and a little older for the most part and with age comes wisdom (I'm told). You should always, always include your better half in all decisions pertaining to motorcycle purchases. I failed to do so and I'm now banned from going on Kijiji (similar to E-bay), also, she has nothing good to say about that bike although she lovingly calls the 84' "my Girlfriend"😃.
