  1. I am 5ft 6 and 74 years old and have been riding bike since 1960 ..I bought the Venture from a friend , runs great but very top heavy ...I decided either to sell it or change it ..So this is what I am doing , work is on going ..Have removed 65 LBS and I have lowered the bike 1 1/2 inches and installed low profile tire on the front The bike has a great feel to it . I have matched the color to the original front ... I may paint the rest of bike when the project is done .. ...I can now balance the bike with one hand on the handle bars and lean the bike over 12 inches past centre and bring it back to straight up right
  2. I have had plenty of calls from guys asking to do the repair the large dealers are turning away I like going to the dealers to buy what they call a non repairable bike ...I bought , repaired and sold 2 in 2020
  3. When you deal with honest and straight people ..It makes things a lot easier ....
  4. Fuel cost is a big item here in Manitoba Canada , went to fuel up and  ended up paying $6.61 per gallon ...It was $5.80 per gallon up till the middle of April ..It does go up in the early summer season here , but no one seems to know why it has reached all time high

I have been using Castrol in my XV1100 Virago for years and all seem to be well . When I bought the old 83 Venture XVZ12TDK the former owner had been running the automotive grade Synthetic 5/30 .. after I changed to Castrol 10/40 and I noticed the Clutch did not want to release ...I flushed the clutch system but still no change , seemed odd because after running the Castrol for at least 5 years ...I switched to Lucas 10/40 and so far the clutch seems to be working ..
  6. I would not be doing this especially after spending 10 months of time and $800 on my 83 venture ...Had call from my doctor sayings some of my medical test came out bad and they have pulled my drivers license ...I can't stop riding so I am going to ride in dirt . I did the same thing to 650 Bonneville in 1969
  7. I have a old 1981 Mono Shock 750 Virago that I will strip down and Install new off road dirt grabber tires ...This bike has 18357 miles on it and I need a bike to run up and the hills and valleys about 15 minutes from my house ...When I asked and older rider why he quit riding on the roads and highways he tells ..Too many rules , and he says sometimes it just plain fun to make the dirt fly , I am thinking I will give it a try and see how it feels . I do not want to quit riding the highways all together , but I looking for a way out to blow off some steam .
  8. When as parents lose a child it makes a hole right through you , we lost our son to cancer he was 45 in ...October , 30 , 2020 ... today as I am typing this it still hurts .. I will be praying for your family tonight , I have found as some others tell me that it is a process .....Always remember , but be strong .. After the memorial service we had for him that night I had dream and it was my wife and I walking through heavens door ..We saw someone coming toward us and it was our son ..He said I have been waiting for you ...Those who pass on to heaven are not having any pain , but are resting peacefully
  9. Sometimes it is best to look at the situation use what we would call common sense ....20 years ago my dads uncle was following a loaded pickup loaded with plywood when one of the plywood sheets lifted off the loaded truck and it went and came through his windshield cutting off his head ..

My goodness that’s horrible.  We actually have TV commercials and UHP will run campaigns and put up “secure your load” on the digital overhead signs.  The landfill even charges double if it’s not secured or covered, so it’s nice to know there is growing awareness.  This happened in my town just a few years ago

We only have one chance at it to make our load is secure . 3 years ago my wife, son and grand son were in a car heading down the trans Canada highway , when a pickup truck pulling a trailer loaded with metal pulled onto the highway just a head of them .  The trailer  hit a bump coming of the shoulder and 2 foot by 2 foot piece of metal came of the trailer and bounced across the lane into a truck then came back into the car my family was in ( no one was hurt ) ..Fortunately the metal hit the front of the car and deflected itself under the car ..It  wrecked the transmission and sub frame and made holes in the floor of the car 2 inches from the brake pedal and continued to make 16 by 10 inch in the rear  floor where my son and grand son were  sitting  .. .M.P.I  insurance said to me that the metal not going into the care was rare ...

This happened about 9 pm at night .  I got a call on my cell call from my wife , she was crying ..I asked where are the RCMP  Police ..She said that the police had not arrived  yet ..I called 911 and asked for help , got into my truck and started to drive to the location ...1 1/2 hours away ...When I got there the rear of the driver  side of the car was on the highway and front was on the shoulder .. I got my wife , son and grand son into the truck and waited ..Made a call to CAA as the RCMP had not been there ...Put the hazard flashers on , called for the police and i was told that they we coming , I said then that I was leaving with my family in my truck  ...I made 4 calls to find a tow truck to come out before I found one that would come out   ..I still wonder why the RCMP were not there by that time ...

That’s some pretty bad police response.  So thankful that nobody was injured.  I don’t use it often around home but my Garmin GPS I bought for when on business travel has a dash cam which is pretty awesome.  I haven’t needed it for an accident but rewatching some near misses is interesting.

  10. What is important is that if we cannot help some one else , then maybe at least we can learn from our own mistakes ......some might call that growing up and getting wiser
  11. I have done my share of things that I know that should not be done again ...I did find out mounting points and proper materials are the first thing to consider and as always safety
  12. I spent many years hauling with trucks ranging form 3/4 ton up the full sized 18 wheeler ..When you extend the rear of truck past the rear axle and put 800 lb plus weight on it , be careful ...That load will swing wide on a corner and will your vehicle support the weight at the mounting point .....I don't know all the regulations in the USA , but here in Manitoba that would be a serious highway traffic violation .. The D.O.T ( department of transport ) guys are driving the highways doing spot checks ..The ruling on this has plenty of fine print and I do know because I have been stopped by the transport guys and any infraction will land you a big fine....I still keep a light duty trailer handy for load under 3000 lbs
  13. I maybe turning my 83 Venture into a trike ...Doing some design work now and making a aluminum materials list and inquiring prices . Have heard some debate on the best rear end to use ....Not going to be an easy project
  14. I friend of mine bought one new in 2018 .. Then in fall 2020 he mentioned to me that engine on the Boulevard has a problem The shop was not sure what real problem was ..They called him a week later and said that they had found the problem and it would be a $1400.00 repair ..They replaced all moving parts in the engine ...
  15. In the years past commercial Freight carriers had a great delivery time ...Canada Post seemed to be the slowest . Just ordered a Batwing for a bike , and the seller used Canada Post for delivery ..The seller was about 1000 miles away and I have to say that Canada Post delivered the package right on time and the rate was very reasonable .. The commercial carriers were saying they could not promise any delivery date because of Covid and the rates were twice that of Canada Post ... It seems that Covid is starting to be a money making device .

Take it with any means possible , then find a regular nut that you fit over it and then weld the nut as a permanent fitment ..You put it into a metal lathe to fit a smaller size nut ..It really does not matter what size it as long as you have a wrench or socket to your new size
  17. I like RSV design great looking bike and maybe just maybe I can get ($$$$) from some where to buy one ...To buy that bike here Manitoba I have to take out a mortgage on my home ...We are the highest in Canada for insurance costs and the highest in retail prices ....The saying goes Tax Me I am Canadian
  18. When get to the years when we realize that each day is a gift . Sometime life throws us a real curve ball . I had heart attack in 2019 and I did recover quite well . Was taken to the hospital last week and got some news that no one wants to hear . I am back to where I was in 2019 , and that my heart has a nasty Arrhythmia , and getting a implanted device . The 2 words I heard loud and clear were ..no driving...no riding . To all out there ride safe ...keep it between the lines and the rubber side down
  19. What you are saying all makes sense , I did contact my GM tech support team and the did mention the same ...We were 1000 miles from home and the car ran terrible ..The car has 25000 miles on it from new and it just came out of storage ...I switched fuel from alcohol blended fuel to a none alcohol blended fuel to a premium grade octane 91 fuel and added some fuel conditioner and the problem went away .
  20. Sometimes an hour or two of slow riding on parking lots or around traffic markers can do a lot for one driving ability . At our Antique Motorcycle Club Rally we had a few driving skills testing events .. Lay a 2 inch x 8 inch x 24 foot long wood on the ground and try riding your bike along the wood without driving off it . 2 years ago my wife and I were returning home from 4 day outing at 120 ks an hour when I saw we were coming up to small car following a semi truck . I first noticed part of a tire coming from the rear of the truck , hitting the small car coming over it in our direction then off to the left hand lane . Then a second piece or the remainder of the wheel an tire came up from the truck hitting the small car and coming right at us . I cut the my bike to a hard left and I noticed the shoulder right there in front of us , I then turned my bike to a sharp right now heading for the rear of the truck . The first piece of the tire was on the pavement on my left and the remainder of the wheel and tire were coming right at us I turned the bike to a hard left and as the wheel landed it hit my right foot . I was able to keep the bike up right as I tryed head away from traffic .. My foot and leg turned numb , traffic was stopping from all directions , so slowed the bike to a stop on the right shoulder and waited to catch my breath ... There were plenty of people stopping so we continued on our way .. I have to say that the worst of all of this was my wife grabbing me from behind and screaming . My leg and for did not hurt till and hour later , could not wait to get home , I had had enough for one day
  21. I have been building stock and race car engines since 1964 . Have several engine built GM and others ranging from 3.3--3.5 --3.8 litre and 5.7 litre with condensation build up in the intake plenum resulting in water collecting on the Map Sensor , switching to premium grade fuel with octane rating 91 or better the problem is gone . The 5.7 litre running 12.5 compression ratio will not run on the low grade blended fuel . My Honda GL1000 did run on it but not to well The XV1100 Virago did not run well on it either My 83 Venture ran on but the performance was way down as it has 10.5 compression ratio My Kenworth needed the additive I have been running the Kleen Flo brand , I do buy in bulk and it is cheap , 5 gallons will last me a year . I buy all my oil and any fuel products in bulk
  22. I have been buying it in bulk from dealer since 1980 ...5 gallons at a time
  23. I have started to add abut 2 OZ of diesel fuel conditioner to each tank full on my 83 . I know that 83 Venture is not a diesel , I started this about 5 years ago in all my vehicles , the alcohol blended gasoline runs hotter and forms condensation in the intake plenum and then the Map sensor forms water droplets on the sensor and the engine runs poorly . Diesel fuel conditioner helps remove water from the gasoline , then the engine runs cleaner It has made a change for the better in all around riding
  24. Tires , Tires ,Tires ......To me tires are like a life line , when they go flat or worn badly you just cannot ride ..When my tires reach 70 % wear .. I I change them along with valve stem , I take no chances . For the design of the tire is important as to how well it will shed water and grab the road in all conditions . To all out there ....It is the journey and not the destination that counts .....and always keep it between the lines and the rubber side down Ride safe and enjoy
