  1. WOW!! Somebody will jump on this...
  2. I've had yearly bouts of heart fibulations about 7 to 10 years ago. Scared the crap out of me, and thought I was going to bite the bullet. The last bout took me to ER. They poked and prodded and after 2-3 hours came back with a clean bill of health and that I had a heart that was pumping like a steam engine. Before leaving ER one of the older nurses came in and asked me if I had any stress in my life?? I thought about it and had to admit that dealing with my late wife's health issues was indeed causing a lot. She responded with "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." Haven't had a fib in a very long time, and with practice know when to walk away....
  3. So... which one is your favorite???
  4. Where's this scoot located?? Give me a shout, maybe I can answer a few of your questions....
  5. Here in NorCal there are a bunch of bucket list rides, but the most heart pumping of them all was during Venture West SLO back in '08. The Naciemento Fergusson road leaves the west side of Hunter Leggitt Army Base and heads 25 miles over to Hwy 1 on the pacific coast. One lane and goaty with no guard rails and 2000 foot drop offs. I was glad to be riding my '83VR.
  6. I'm not entirely sure the side stand mechanics are the same as the 1stGen, but what happens is the back frame tab is threaded and to tighten the stand the outside bolt needs to be torqued. What happens is a lot of folks try to tighten the stand with the inside nut, but all it is is a lock nut. It get's over torqued and the bolt snaps off. You might check to see if the thru bolt has broken and leads to the holes wearing and the tabs bending, resulting in the kick stand not holding up the bike where it should....
  7. I didn't find progressives a wasted effort. Much better handling. The thought that air assist makes the fork springs progressive might be a bit off. With progressives the compression of the spring starts immediately and increases exponentially, while the OEM's spring compression is linear with the air having it's greatest effect and acting as a buffer right before bottoming out. 7 psi is next to nothing. On my '83... 17psi... I retained the air assist with the progressives. A lot of riders go without. Here's a thought. Why do OEM springs loose their strength, or wear out over time, if air assist is a major part of fork suspension??
  8. I've never done a 2ndGen, but do have experience installing Progressives in a 1st. From what I understand there isn't an oil drain screw on a 2nd like a 1st. However you might be able to suck the oil out of the fork with one of those small drain pumps?? Harbor Freight?? I thought I wrote up a tech article on the job??, but can't find it right now. Basically it's removing anything in the way of unscrewing the top caps, and bend a piece of coat hanger to hook the OEM springs and preloads. Refill with fork oil to about 5 inches from the top with the springs installed. Wouldn't think you'd have to take anything else apart in the fork. Found it....
  9. Is your bike a trike?? I see a lot of trike riders wearing tennys during the hot summer months. Most wear 3/4 lids..... There's a big difference between 2 and 3, and what's actually required...
  10. I notice he didn't have the cajones to sign his rant....
  11. I guess I was one of the 5 who originally bit the bullet. They originally said they were going to make a special run of 20, and I thought they had reached their goal. I guess not.... I agree on the center stand. I already have one on my '99 and really like it. "Specially after coming off a 1stGen. This second one will be going on the '07. Was going to get another for the '04, but triked it instead....
  12. OK, here's my spin. I want a water cooled fuel injected V6 based on the new V-Max V4. Lower RPM torque/power curve. Build in GPS, XM Radio, AM/FM and CB. Tach, speed, and odo analog cluster. Oil, temp, amp, clock digital reads. 6 speed transmission. 6 gallon tank. Full saddle bags/ trunk. LED Lighting. Frame mounted fairing. Adjustable bars. 4 piston calipers. On board Air Ride suspension. Etc.....
  13. I'm bidding on a Road King next week.....
  14. I hear ya... I guess it all depends on how much dinero you're willing to spend. I've never had a digital that didn't jump around a lot. Even the speedo on the 2ndGen drives me nuts.....
  15. The radiator guards were made by Steve Wagner, but sadly Steve passed away a few years ago, and to my knowledge no one has picked up the torch for the 'Wagner Grill'.... There's also a host of member vendors along with their products listed in the classifieds....
  16. One of these will clip to a plug wire... Electronic Specialties 325 EZ-Tach Digital Automotive Tachometer http://www.amazon.com/Electronic-Specialties-325-Automotive-Tachometer/dp/B000UZO0L0 I have found them cheaper than Amazon....
  17. How about an air shock balancing set up on a Harley. HARLEY SHOCKS OR ANOTHER SET
  18. I had a tank bag that attached with very strong magnets, which of course is meaningless on a 1stGen........
  19. I'm wondering if you could McGuiver something that would be a little more robust using a couple of those clip on air chucks???
  20. You said that it's still slipping with 2 up etc. And now I see where you mentioned that you haven't bled the clutch yet. You need to do that first. Then if you still have problems it might be easier to diagnose the problem. You can mess with the mechanical side of the clutch, but the hydraulic side might be the problem. I'm going to PM you a write up on bleeding the clutch. Maybe it'll help.
  21. LOL..... Nope, never did. I just thought you were ignoring me......
  22. Shoot!! Listen you young whipper snapper, you ain't even close to being golden. If I were as young as you...and know what I know now... I'd be dangerous!! We all have glitches during our lifetimes, but that's all they are.. a glitch. Wait until you're in your 70's before you start playing the 'how many years' game. I'll be racking up another notch next month and have gone thru a few of them, but the only thing I think about is how many more years do I have left... to ride..... and finding a girlfriend.... :-) WooHooooo!!
  23. Since the oil question has been answered it might possibly be that there's still air in the lines, or the clutch reserve expansion hole is plugged up...... Maybe??
