  1. I'm going this route..... Have a little monkey on my but too. However my old '83 had a leather covered 1stGen seat that never gave me a bit of discomfort. It was done by a local leather shop. Since moving to the 2nd's I have had nothing but trouble, and so far haven't found an answer. Figured I'd try the Air Hawk and see if that helps....
  2. WOW!!!!! Got short of breath just looking at the pics...
  3. Me thinks that Tweek had a kilometer.... Hdhtr and I ran a stretch of Hwy 395, on our 1stGens, back to Susanville doing triple digits up to 115mph for about 30-40 miles. But that was back when we were immortal. Most of the time the tach reads 4200 +/- when slabbing it. On the 2ndGens I don't know what the tach reads 'cause there ain't one, but ride slightly faster than the flow....
  4. Sorry...should have been more descriptive... It's the larger hose behind the smaller one that looks like it came off a 1stGen.... In the pic from the '07 it looks like it might be rubbing on the top of the oil journal... Hope it has a hole it..
  5. Now that's something. My Mom and Dad named me Jack, and I own a black 04 Midnight. Go figure....
  6. Have a great trip Ed........

    Why me

This is gonna be interesting. I have a couple of those Harley Tail Light assemblies that are dedicated to the 'someday' pile. Never gave it a thought that they might be too heavy.... I'd be interested in hearing about a brace or??
  8. It's a pretty big vacuum hole Carl. If you look closely at the pic from 7, I think?? I can see coolant residue on it. That's what made me think it might be a chafed hose. Another thing is the residue is all on the stator cover side. The other side of the twinkie is dry and dusty. That's why I was hoping it was the rubber plug... I'm going to replace the coolant tomorrow morning and see if I can spot something once it heats up. I also have a problem with the clutch. The reserve is full, and it will start in neutral, but when I try to put it into first the trany clunks and the engine stalls. The bike will not free wheel when it is in 1st. It will start in 2nd, but still wants to lurch forward a bit. The clutch seems to be grabby, but works well enough to ride it into the back yard. My thoughts are when the engine overheated it cooked the slave seal and I'm not getting enough movement to release the pressure plate all the way. We'll get her fixed. One thing I know about is clutches.... But first things first... :-) Yep... Go with the flow...
  9. Some of you may already know, but 7 of 9 barfed all her coolant after the first days ride at VW-Shasta. I parked her, turned her off, and got off. There laying under the middle gear cover was a puddle of coolant. So I let her sit overnight and the next morning the puddle ran from under the stator cover all the way back to under the final. So put her back on the trailer, hung around till Saturday, and went home early. I was praying that it was the rubber plug under the fin. No such luck. I haven't raised the tank and filled the radiator yet, but in poking around I ran into this. The first pic is of the'99, and the second is of 7. It's a hose, and the problem is I don't have a clue to where it comes to, goes to, and what it's called. Can't find it in the parts manual.. One thing for sure is the hose on the '99 clears the oil fitting by a country mile, and the hose on 7 looks like it's close enough to rub and chafe. With big hands I haven't gotten in there to feel around yet, but it's a possible???
  10. A ride up Podre Canyon to the town of Rustic for lunch is neat. Follows the Podre River. Great eye candy....
  11. Walt, Did you remove the delivery pipe?? The manual calls for the carbs to be removed to get it out of there.... For those that don't know what a 'Twinkie' is, it's sort of a heat exchanger that sits in the valley between the cylinders... One of our members didn't know what to call it, and since it looked like a Twinkie he hung that label on it, and it's been called that ever since....
  12. What did it end up costing you?? Also I picked up some stainless screen to wrap the ceramic from McMaster-Carr
  13. Nice looking....and would love to take one for a ride, but like all these cool customs I'd need a shoehorn to get my fat a$$ in the seat and probably cut a foot out of the shins. For some reason they are all built for midgets.....
  14. :sign yeah that:
  15. That would be a strong possibility Ron... If all the stars align. Like you, it's always been on my bucket list just to say I did it. Next year it'll be 76 and I'll be 75.... 'Bout time we met.... Maybe we could get a gaggle of 'far-west'rs' to take the ride??
  16. Pie is good.... :-) Ice cream and pie is even better.... Maybe by the time next year rolls around, and I get one of these bikes purring again, I'll trailer the scoot up there. Dang!! Just the thought of Ice Cream made me build myself a root beer float.... Yummm!! I just thought that by now there'd be signs of a few scoots on the streets since it's the 75th.
  17. Wish I could ride with you all. Always wanted to make Sturgis and get the t-shirt... just once, but been procrastinating for so long I just don't have it in me any longer. Being the 75th, Ida thought that things would be heating up already, but looking at the WEBCAMS things are still a little quite...
  18. Push the set button twice... If that doesn't work try hold the button in and count to 5, then let it out....
  19. On a second gen, pulling the left rear fin cover off makes access to the slave a piece of cake....
  20. The cruise control cable comes out of the throttle cable junction box and connects to the slave behind the lower left fairing. Remove the fairing and you should have access to vacuum hoses.....
  21. Ran across this while surfing this morning. Might be of interest to someone. http://www.treasury.gov/auctions/irs/chny_auto_7909.htm#image
  22. What an awesome video. We got talent in the building!!! One of the best I've seen in a long time. And... I think I'd better go on a diet... :-) A ride when it's cooler sounds... 'refreshing'.....
