  1. Just thought I'd add a few remarks since my first post was kinda short. I have trailered 1st and 2ndGens 1000's of miles using a ton of rachet straps with all sorts of configurations, on the side stand and upright. I even used a Canyon Dancer for a while off the handle bars which I don't recommend.. I do recommend attachments on any unsprung part of the bike. The bike has suspension...let it work. Compressing the springs doesn't help at all. Some rigging took me 15 to 20 minutes to rig, with a lot of apprehension about it falling over before getting it secure. The pics I posted is the absolute best way to tow a bike on a trailer. If you don't own a trailer get the chock anyway. It will work holding a 2ndGen upright while working on it in the garage. It doesn't have to be screwed down permanently in the trailer. The whole set up is a ride on, get off. 2 rachets with long straps to secure.. found these at Sam's Club.. 4 for 20 bucks... Undo the straps and back off. Not even break a sweat.. One thing I might add is when backing off do it in first gear with the lever pulled in. What happens is when backing off down the ramp in neutral, and the motor off, is the front tire will loose traction as the weight transfers to the rear, and will skid down the ramp gate. Makes things rather exciting. With it in gear just feather the clutch if it starts to skid. The rear tire has plenty of traction. That's my 2 ¢... Sorry for the long post.
  2. If you set the CLASS at high/auto in the US it will put 17psi in the front and 71psi in the rear.....
  3. My daughter and her hubby gave me some when we visited for Christmas. First time I've tasted the stuff. It was great, but a little bit goes along way with me. I buy an 8 pack of beer and it lasts damn near the whole year. Plus I found that beer helps in causing gout, and I don't need any help in that department.... So for those of you that can guzzle the 'Pie', more power to you. I'm a cheep drunk...
  4. I've heard that before.... but take issue with it. Good deals come from curiosity and looking around corners. I get complaints from friends all the time that they never get the great deals I've come across... as they sit on their duffs waiting for something to magically appear in front of them holding a sign saying 'take me'... So waiting ain't all it's cracked up to be.... Ya gotta move....
  5. I'm thinking again..... rare!! If the reason for outlawing ear buds is they hinder the awareness of surrounding noises, then wouldn't music in a helmet do the same thing?? And what if I wear ear buds while wearing a helmet... would I still be ill-eagle, and how would they be able to tell.... Also $500 bucks?? The Gestapo rides again....

  7. Here's the way I tie the '07RSV. It should work on a 1stGen just as well. The front wheel chock works great and it's cheep here in the US. It's made in China so maybe you can get a break down under as well....

  9. The restriction also says headset coverings which to me means helmet audio too, or maybe even a helmet?? . However, I wonder just how many CHP are going to pull you over suspecting you might be listening to music?? Or for that matter, it seems to me this violates the helmet required law. Hey it's early and I'm bored....
  10. When I first bought my '83 the engine was on the noisy side. When I did an oil change I went with Valvoline 20-50 MC specific wet clutch oil and was amazed at how quite she got. I suspect you may want to change your oil.....
  11. It just may have been the meds.... But.... I think it's this 'once you've looked at it it disappears from any new post search. I've had it happen more than a few times where I've gone back after thinking about it a bit and can't find it to post. So I think the 'H' with it and move on...

  16. It's because oil sells slower than gas or diesel. The stuff on the shelves of major auto supply houses and the stuff in the warehouses were stocked with the higher priced oil. Since the sales are not as great as fuel the price will drop slower than those at the pump. They're not gouging. Just trying to get their investment back. Give it some time. Oil will also get very cheap. Actually the cost of refining diesel is the same as gas. When the refinery cracks crude, it all comes out of the same tower. The top is gas, a little lower is lighter oils like kerosene, and it gets heavier as it syphoned off, Diesel is about mid tower. Cold tar products are at the bottom. We used to buy diesel for $.26 a gallon back in the day. Same thing for gas in the cabin cruiser.... You're right. The cost of production plays a big part in the retail price. 20 years ago when crude sold for $50 a bbl, gas prices were below a dollar per gallon. Now we're amazed when it breaks the $2 barrier.... Walmart is so much bigger they buy products by the train load, not the car load. It's called purchasing power....

  20. I know the whole thing and the gear train are amazing workmanship, but the motor looks nakid without the covers. I wonder if it's possible to scan a full sized cover and reduce it to scale in a 3D printer?? It's slow... and I'm bored... :-)

  22. Just curious... Charging at 14.5vdc at idle isn't factory spec. You should get 14.2-14.4 above 2000rpm. At idle the reading should be a little under 12.6. Sulfating may not have been your problem.
  23. Your sync is not right. Everything balances to carb#2 (left front). I have a sneaking hunch you have carb #4 sync screw dialed in too much and it's overriding the idle setting on #2 . That's what's causing all the problems.
