  1. Sure if you're dealing with money, but when dealing with applied lateral force, not much. BTW most of the older 10' trailers are all leaf springs unless it's a home made McGuiver. Lately they've been running tortion bar axles. However, you can run any set up you want for peace of mind. I just think it's over kill and of little value.....
  2. Just wondering... Years ago I had a starter problem with my 5.7 Vortec Suburban in that I couldn't keep starters from dieing because of the heat generated from the header. It was suggested that I replace the OEM with a Hi-torque starter, and it would have if I hadn't bought a dealer installed new one. (Life time Mr. Goodwrench) I'm sure we all heard them, and I think Chrysler used them on some of their motors?? They gave off a sort of high pitched 'wheeze'... And they're a lot smaller than OEM...making it easier to R&R. Anyway I wonder if something like that would be available or adaptable to our Ventures? Just a thought??
  3. Interesting concept, but I'm not too sure it's sound. The lowering of the bikes center of gravity 3" to 4" isn't going to amount to much when sitting on a trailer for vertical stability, and comparing any perceived trailer oscillation to swinging sides of beef in a semi is like apples to oranges, or vertical vs. horizontal movement. Coupling a trailer's undampened rebound to a dampened rebound of the bike also doesn't make sense?? Although most small trailers don't run shocks, the bikes suspension will dampen any rebound oscillation that could possibly occur.. Even with a 'project' bike, unless it's also undampened then it could possibly happen in theory.. One more thing to mention is try to avoid 3' deep pot holes.... :-) I've trailered a bike many thousands of miles, even over some OMG rough back roads, and never had a lick of a problem with a bike not staying put.
  4. Yeah, but is it Leatherby's quality......
  5. Granted... I just looked at fuel, lodging, and grub.....
  6. The last time someone brought up the difference in the exchange rate between the Loonie and the buck, I was just anal enough to do some checking, and found that even with the big discrepancy the actual cash outlay was about the same due to the difference in the prices paid for lodging and fuel in the US. OK not exactly, but dam close. Coming from down under in the US, the Canadian prices eat up any rate savings. Same thing in fuel. The difference in the cost, it being cheaper in the US, makes up for the difference in the dollar. Granted a trip south for our northern neighbors won't be the screaming deal as in the past when the exchange rate was pretty much the same..... My daughter lives in Sault St Marie MI, and the big box stores are still doing great biz with Canadians coming across the bridge... Even with todays exchange rate. I wonder why??
  7. BUMP.... What's happening?????
  8. So I'm surfing cable TV, and I ran across Mecum Auction MC Auction from Las Vegas. If you hurry you can watch too. Finally something on TV worth watching.....
  9. How about 'Nick'??? I think that would be a good name....
  10. You might have to put some tie downs in the floor or mount t-track on the side walls. I have two of my enclosed trailers rigged with t-track, and one has both. It just depends on the size of your trailer?? Floor tie downs are the cheapest way to go...
  11. Yep, I think you ran into the Kung Pow Metric section....
  12. That's sorta like searching for your glasses.... while you're wearing them, or looking for the cell while you're talking on it... Things are going downhill quickly.... I've discovered bulk buying bikes too... I just haven't gotten to that sharing part yet.....
  13. Man I'm so glad that I'm not alone. I feel better now... :-) Pox on Harbor Freight...
  14. I'll drop by later on and take a dirty pic...or two?? Will you settle for mud?? :-)
  15. Sorry for getting irritated.... Probably was a 5.0L....
  16. Groan....!! You assumed that the HP stood for Horse Power, and you know what they say about assumed. It stands for High Performance, and the 289 stands for cubic inches. But as an expert in all things Mustang, you knew that... yes?? I really don't give a damn about the horse power, just what it said on top of the motor......
  17. Yeah sorry 'bout that. Had small block chevy on the brain. It has a 289HP-FI auto.... I'll edit the post...
  18. Your office is now dirt Steve... I did rescue the donuts however. It's more than just 'that stuff'. You have no idea.... The last person who went in there to find something hasn't come out in over two weeks... We leave a plate of donuts inside the door every night and they are gone in the morning so I guess he's OK.... That's generally the way I locate everything. I now have 5 compressors...that's how bad it is.....
  19. That happens a lot. The idle will increase by turning in that sync screw in the right front off #4 carb, and it can be mistaken for an idle screw by someone that is unfamiliar with syncing the carbs on a 1stGen. What happens is #4 overrides the idle setting on #2 , but it also screws up the sync. I've seen that happen a lot on second owner Ventures...
  20. Here's a pic of the one I bought my daughter on her 16th. It's a '94 GT 289HP-FI (corrected) auto It's now running around Sault St Marie MI. Great car....
  21. So I wonder if I'm not the only one. I need a small something, and find it on the web cheap. It also comes in 100 packs. So I say what the 'H' and buy 100. The I go ahead and fix whatever I'm working on... maybe one or two pieces... and then can't find what I did with the other 98 when I need them again.... Drives me bananas.....
  22. I've never heard of an engine in need a sync causing engine noise. What I have heard, and experienced, is a lot of vibration in the grips when it's slightly out of sync. Way out of sync and the motor will have a hard time staying lit...
  23. So... is that the end of the story?? I read the whole thing, and all that leading up to a ship doing an about face on an anchor...?? I already know this is true and correct, because I've seen it done in the Movie 'Battleship'..... Maybe it's Puc's writing style...leaving you wanting more.... Or like Paul Harvey... We need the 'rest of the story'.... I can relate to what Puc is talking about. Hitting the wall... My own started right around 65 with the bod getting progressively sorer and weaker. Culminating with colon cancer surgery in '12. Every year I keep saying this years VR West is going to be my last hurrah, and Yreka last June was maybe the deciding factor??? It was not fun, and I don't think I'm up to doing another...... maybe?? I still have a lot of Ventures laying around in various baskets. I guess one of the reasons I keep them is I'm not willing to admit that the clock is ticking... and they are memories... Just maybe I can make a few more in 2016...
  24. Yep @vzuden is right. Harbor Freight Dave. http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=chock I think they're the best bang for the buck on the market....
  25. NAH...... Braille :-)
