Jacking Up My TC
Condor replied to N3FOL's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
957 dry...!! Wow!! If I remember right the RSV comes in at 850#. Plunk my lard ass 300# in the saddle and with gear I'd guess we're pushing a little over 1200#... Thinking about trying to panic stop considering the traction of just two tires is kinda scary.. What were we talking about?? Oh yeah.. Jacking up a TC.. Harley has a few folks making a center stand for the Road Kings etc. Maybe one could be McGivered to work on the new twin... At 957 lbs you'd be pushing the max weight rating on one of those HF tables. I've always wanted one but never pulled the trigger. I'm now bidding on a 1500# rated table.. Way better that the HB. I'm not riding any longer, but I can still wrench... Just having a tough time getting back up after sitting.... -

I'm not familiar with the new venture, but does it have a center stand, or at least a place to mount one?? If it does, that's your center of balance... You might also think about investing in one of those Harbor Freight MC table lifts... -
It's family...

That was neat.... I'd never take it off FULL... I would install a recoil pad tho- Sorry officer I killed the intruder with my BB gun.... :-)

Sometimes Old Folks just need to be reminded... :-)

This lady really likes her job...

My browser is Chrome, and I can't tell any difference from 7.... Maybe I.E. shows some difference in appearance but I haven't used IE in years.

Yep.. Nerve damage. I'm just now getting over Trigeminal Nerve damage on the right side of my face from a dentist hitting the nerve during a root canal. One in a million shot.. At first the pain was the worst I'd ever felt. Went to my HMO and the prognosis was only time will heal it. That was 3 months ago and little by little it has subsided although just yesterday I had a strong attack. I experience the 'pain needles' during the attacks. To be on the safe side you should go have it checked out. You might had also suffered a concussion...

Lucky you... Thumb holes are illegal in Komiefornia.... Along with just about everything else 'cept Pot..... and aliens..

The Garand is another on the bucket list. I think I'm gonna have to get one from the CMP. On the open market folks think they're made of gold... It will probbly be cobbled together but I just want to shoot it... I already have 35 enblocs waiting... :-)

Well I finally done it... I held out as long as I could, but my OS is now a 10. I don't know nutin' about anything beyond a hotlink so my hired gun son-in-law came over and did the up grade. I do run Chrome as a browser and after the smoke cleared I can't figure out what all the fuss was about. Business as usual... The cost?? Home made tamales and chili...

I've been after a 99E Savage for a long time, but every time I see one come up for auction there's always something else that I want more and can't afford both... An 88 Winchester is another... Some day???

I hope you have a few pounds of that H870 left Chuck. They haven't made any for a few years now... I run IMR4831.. a little faster burning than H4831.. and get around 2800'/s with a 140 grain Nosler SP. Plenty fast for me... I haven't loaded in a long time either, but they're still making 4831 if I need it...

I agree Skip. I have a couple of '94's in 30-30 plus a '94AE, and...couple of '92's in 44-40. Also a Marlin 1895G in 45-70. There's a lot of romance in those old...and new... levers...
-
Chuck that's smoking.... What powder are you using. My 264 clocks in at a little under 3000fps with Nosler 140's on a good day...

I've heard that aluminum foil will work but I've never tried it. Never have had a problem with rust from using 0000 steel wool on chrome.

Heck a half inch at a hundred is nothing to sneeze at...... I've been shooting a 6.5.. actually a 264WM (6.5x64)... for about 50 years and the reason I picked it was the flat ballistics. It'll drop 4" at 200. Zero'd in at 2" high at 200yds, and it'll deliver a kill shot on the cross hairs to 400. About my limit. And it loves 140gr. ammo. I imagine 140gr. would work with the 280AI as well??
-
I'll probably never shoot this one, but nice to know it will if need be?? Should make a dandy deer rifle.. I did pick up a box of 6.5 ammo just because. Who knows... maybe some day?? :-) Thanks for the input. Once Chuck runs a few rounds thru his 'modern' Kimber I'd be interested to hear how it performs....

It's light Chuck. It has a RAM Line stock and that saves a lot of weight. The action is a 93 Swedish Mauser, and I'm not sure what the 6.5x55 Swede bbl is?? The stock bbls military were stepped, much like the 98 Mauser in 7x57, and this one is a tapered sporter mystery bbl... Kimber built these things when still in Oregon. Here's a bit of info on the it. https://www.chuckhawks.com/kimber_swedish_mauser.htm Like the author of the article I picked up this one for much the same reasons, and it's absolutely like new...
-
Have fun with that new gun..... I have an older Kimber 6.5x55 out of Oregon... strickly for a collectable... that's very nice.. I've heard good things about the new ones...

I think a gal in leathers is just plain SEXY....

Yep, If it could only talk... I've used a white vinegar bath diluted to 3% 50/50 with water to clean brass and bronze parts. Generally overnight the patina disappears and they shine again.. Used at 6% before painting any aluminum surface..masts, spars etc.. then rinsed off.. it will etch the surface and give the paint something to adhere to... On MC stuff I generally use 0000 steel wool on the chrome. Wax the plastic... :-)

That's about what they're going for... But.... where in the hell can anyone find a full blown low mile touring bike for that kind of money??? -
Some VW history... Accurate when I can look at the patches on the wall. Otherwise it's all fuzzy logic...?? The first VW was held in Bakersfield CA. in about 2005 or 6. When the club had a big group of riders in L.A. and another in No. Cal they got together in Bakersfield for the weekend. I guess that was VWI. The next year we all met in Death Valley. II. Susanville came next with riders coming in from OR and WA, and Nev...as well as L.A. III. We skipped a year because of the International in Ft Collins CO. Then in '08 we did Morro Bay. Then we held a big one for the western states in Cody Wy in '09. Because it worked so well and the infastructure was all in place we went back the in 2011 for an International. After Cody we did the Dalles in OR in '14, and then the last one in Yreka/Mt Shasta CA in '15. Since then it's been pretty quite. Lack of organizers and old age have set in. I know my riding days are over... It was a hell of a ride...
