  1. Looks like you answered your own question. Barnet HD springs are available for the MKI's as well. I installed a set in my '83VR and they did the job. I'm confused?? I thought the question was to replace the disc spring in a MKII with the MKI coil springs since the Barnet does just that. Not replace the coil springs with a disc?? And perhaps?? see if the MKI's will also replace the 2ndGen's???
  2. You're absolutely right, but it's actually two. Nice catch. However, still don't mess with it. It's metered to only apply 30% of the braking power to begin with, and trying to improve braking by changing the rear to a later model 4 piston would be a waste of time and money..
  3. I think those are the ones?? I saved 'm this time... :-) Thanks for finding it.... OK after reading the post I have my doubts. The mod I saw used 10" Krome Werks, no riser. I'd still be interested if someone have a set of OEM's who could put a tape on them for the spread at the neck.
  4. OK baths are out....
  5. The guy that put a set on his didn't mention that issue. Wish I'd saved the pic he posted.. Take the bike and turn the bars to the lock and take a look. I'm not sure what the OEM bars have as a center spread, but see if the wider?? distance will effect the tank. As far as the grips go they will be higher than the stock position.
  6. I'm not going to do a thing.... If it all goes up in smoke I'll claim I'm an illegal alien and tap into all that free stuff.....
  7. If I remember correctly one of the members of the Delphi Board installed a set of THESE on his RSV and the OEM cables fit. I leaning on putting a set on the '04 trike just to get the grips off the top of my thighs. I might also add they looked great. And.... Also the bend breaks right at the bottom edge of the dash....
  8. Dowco makes a good all weather cover... They also make a storage cover which will not last long out in the elements...
  9. Remove the clutch pressure plate. With your finger on the end of the rod, gently squeeze the lever . Does it move? Then the problem is with the clutch basket. If it doesn't then the problem is in the hydraulics. Slave to master. This'll get you headed in the right direction.
  10. I talk to Ed almost daily, and privy to a lot more information. It's quite a story, but I'm gonna let him tell it. He does have a laptop on it's way. Once he get's that I'm sure he'll be posting.... One thing I can share is he's having a heck of a time getting his ID's back in order. His wallet was destroyed..Drivers License, Bank Cards, etc., and it's almost like a catch 22. He can't get his DL with out proof of identity, but he can't get bank cards without the DL. They lost everything. Something we all should think about. I remember my Dad keeping all of the important papers in one of those small fire safes. ID's, birth certs., Deeds, etc. The whole place could have gone up in smoke, but we'd still be operational....
  11. I just wanted to say I like the new set up for PM's. I just traded several PM's with @Slowroll and the way the messages were layed out is a vast improvement. In the past we had those who replied by posting at the top, and those who replied at the bottom. The end result was a mess trying to figure out the hierarchy of a long exchange. With the box format everything is organized and much quicker to read from beginning to the end. Not sure if this is something new that Don has tweeked into the script, or if it's been there but for some reason I wasn't getting it. Either way....
  12. Another thought comes to mind. Are your brakes still linked?? If they are, have you tried bleeding the left front first and then the rear??
  13. I'm not as lucky as some, I no longer have a wife and miss her a bunch, but I personally don't feel real comfortable on a two wheeler any longer. An old age thing. 10 years ago I was running all over town on the scoot. Not any more. Creature comforts are more important the older I get. However, I'm going to give a trike some attention this summer. If that doesn't work out there's gonna be a lot of Ventures up on the block.
  14. You might try replacing the hose from the reserve to the plastic elbow. You may be getting junk flaking of inside of the old one and blocking the opening to the master??? Otherwise like yamagrl sez. Reverse bleed...
  15. Missed out on the used spacers in the last couple of posts. So Craig, could you post the source for the new ones. I'll need one for the light bar on the '04. Have everything else, just needed the spacer. Zzyzx was going to make up a couple but he's been side tracked... maybe for a quite a while??
  16. Here are a few pics of the '83 and the '99 after getting them out of the garage. The '83 will probably be a basket... It's also a heck of a way to tint a windshield....
  17. I voted no. I think they make a mean machine look 'girly'.....
  18. Just remove the other bolt and you'll be in balance again.... Don't need 'm anyway..
  19. Nice looking scoot. If I took my '99 and my '04 and ran them head long into each other, that's what the result would look like... :-) If you find you don't like the Russell Daylong I have a nice Corbin for trade fodder....
  20. I talked to him this morning and did ask about insurance coverage, and he said his wife takes care of that stuff. One thing he did mention is...depending on how things shake out they may think about relocating. Figures. I finally get someone locally who talks bike and can hang with, and he moves?? Haven't had a coffee bud since @HdHtr moved to DC.
  21. zzyzx' house burnt to the ground last night. Everyone got out, but two cats are still missing. What a mess. A neighbor reported that the house lifted off the foundation 4-5 feet by an explosion, and it's an all electric house...?? One wall of the garage with the bikes was burned and it's pretty black inside, but the bikes may have made it?? I got a couple of pics from him this morning.
  22. Looks like a fancy Sportster to me.....
  23. Three things I can think of. Yep on the cap, two the thermostat, and three the drain valve is set on open. This will cause the coolant to bypass the thermo and circulate too fast and not transfer heat as efficiently. I used to add a little 'water wetter' to the coolant as well on my '83.
  24. After the pain my late wife went thru I'm super happy that a couple of cortisone shots in the right knee made mine painless. Nice thing is I still have some padding left, so it's just arthritic, not bone on bone. Left knee is perfect. Had bone spurs that irritated the knee and caused the swelling. Every one seems to have a different experience with knee replacement. I had a friend who had both knees done at the same time, and two weeks later he was running around a very large boat yard that he owned.... Go figure??
  25. Many years ago while driving on a country lane outside of Susanville Ca. I had a dog do just that. Came out of a drainage ditch and attacked my right front tire. 3/4 ton truck with an 11' camper won... The real scary part of that video. Did you notice that semi tractor rig lock 'm up to avoid running over the guy when he landed in on-coming traffic? It coulda been a lot worse...
