  1. Welcome to the party... This has been happening for years with Metzlers. It's sorta a love hate relationship. Some guys love 'm, and others won't touch them with a 10' pole....
  2. Since I don't do much out of the inclement riding I just went with a 10" smoke on the '07 and '99. Will probably go with one on the trike too...when I get around it. It satisfies my needs, looks kinda cool, and only cost $50 bucks!!
  3. I bought a pack of 'El Cheepo' pads off eBay a number of years ago, and when I tried to install one it was too wide for the caliper opening by a few mm's. They're still laying somewhere in the roll-away. I just figured if they can't get the measurements right, what else is not up to par. Nothing but EBC's since...
  4. Just because I went and did a Google on Tesla Battery Cost and got this page. http://insideevs.com/tesla-battery-in-the-model-s-costs-less-than-a-quarter-of-the-car-in-most-cases/ Considering the car sells in the $100,000 range that's plain ugly. Now if they could build in a steam powered generator?? they may have something. I guess all electric cars today have a significant battery replacement cost. I wish when they are touting how eco-friendly/green they are they could also mention the maintenance cost. Oooopps.. there goes the resale value..
  5. If I remember correctly the pic you're refering to had the 'G' plainly stamped on the back of the basket. Not sure I've ever read about one that had a number. Did a Google to see if there might be another on the web somewhere with no luck...
  6. I wonder if replacing the batteries might have something to do with putting it up for sale?? http://chico.craigslist.org/cto/5615351170.html
  7. When I did the Progressives on the '83 I went to 15wt with about half of the PVC preload that Progressive supplied. Basically just cut one tube in half. Something that no one mentions is the stock preload metal tubes have washers in the end that look like a 'bowler' hat. They will fit in the end of the PVC, and need to be used. I also kept the anti-dive hooked up. Still ran the air at max psi. Turned out to be the best riding bike of the stable.
  8. From your original post you did say you honed out the master, and it did have some pitting at the relaxed position.. ?? ... So what's happening is even tho you're pulling on the lever, the pressure isn't building up until the rubber cup moves a ways down the cylinder. Personally I'd replace the master/reserve with another. If the 14mm worked before, changing it to a bigger will actually help, but not for the reasons you'd think. It would replace the honed/pitted master you have now.... My 2¢
  9. The reason the slave is so hard to remove is the shift linkage rod blocks the bottom mounting ear to just pull straight out. I've found that if you rotate the slave upside down the top mounting ear will pass over the rod and the thing slips right out. Same thing when putting the new one in. Put it in upside down and then rotate it and the bottom ear will move behind the rod... I'd have a lot more hair if I'd figured that out sooner.....
  10. Coolant running thru a cylinder will smoke. A leaking seal will let coolant drip out the bottom of the water pump while running down the road. Not so much while sitting.. Just a thought.. Replace the motor if it does turn out to be a head gasket....
  11. I agree that there will be a gain Kev , but.... the improvement over OEM's will not be as significant as when the R1/6 is applied to the MKI's. I always thought the OEM calipers on the MKII's were decent, and not in need of much help, if any. I know the debate on braking improvement can go on and on... much like the best oil... but I just don't see the need to spend the bucks.
  12. :confused07: 1stGen OEM's and R1/6's are held on by two bolts....
  13. I experienced the same sporty feeling with the Avon Venoms on the '83. I bought a set, but only mounted the front as the EII on the back had a lot of miles on it. No wiggle. After a few years I did mount the back but never ran it at high speeds. I trailered the bike to Cody and did mostly mountain touring, and didn't have a problem. If I ever get around to needing a new tire I may go to the Cobra. Right now I'm running EIII's on all the RSV's. And with the few miles I've been putting on and the milage I get with the 3's it may never happen in my life time.....
  14. Depending on what kind of shape the calipers are in would dictate on whether to rebuild or not. If they're really clean I wouldn't bother. If the pads are in very good shape I'd leave those alone too. Then it's a plug'n'play'n'bleed job. Here a pic of the style you should b searching for. I get a head ache trying to figure out the years, but R1's and R6's are the same. I might also add that if these are going on an '89 it might be a little redundant as you already have 4 piston calipers and propably won't feel much difference. However.... the blue dots do look kinda cool... :-)
  15. Got $125 for the last set I found a new home for....
  16. Neither.... I'm not that paranoid. Have a decent helmet, and antiquate lighting....
  17. Thanks Bob. I'm going to wait until my family hacker gets back from Disney Land and go for it. BTW for those that are afraid of losing all their pics etc. I bought a couple of 19G memory sticks from Sams Club. I then used a program/tool called 'Everything' and did a search for all of my .jpgs and copied them to a stick. I then did the same thing for all my music files to the other. It just gives me a little more confidence when messing with the OS. https://www.voidtools.com/ All you do is enter a string and it will search your entire memory for matches. Search for .jpg and it will give you every pic on your computer in a nano-sec. Awesome tool.
  18. I'm still running Windows 7 pro, and have bee thinking about going to 10 voluntarily. Lately I can't get windows 7 to even update. Don't know what the 'H' is the problem. Figured it was about time. Can't even get PITA I.E. to work. So have switched over to Chrome. Chrome seems to be faster, with no problems. How will 10 effect Chrome?? Also when I go to the update page I don't see anything that refers to 10?? Is there another URL to use??
  19. I've driven millions of miles over the years.... ya gotta be old to say that.... and I've seen tons of truck tire carnage laying on the highways. Never saw one blow.... until a couple of years ago. I equate it to being struck by lightening...... Probably never see another, but just the one got my attention. Good thing you were passing the truck seeing as how it was one of the rears that went. That stuff can be lethal....
  20. WOW!!!!!!!
  21. A good reason to be running Ride-On in the tires.....
  22. I don't think you're going to see anything touring from Yamaha for a long time. The whole touring market is flat and saturated, and until it improves we're not going to see any investments by major manufacturers in touring bikes. I think all bike brands are hurting right now. Whens the last time you've seen a new Gold Wing? With all this talk about a new Venture, just how many will be beating down the door to buy one in this economy?? Especially since we have 30 years of bullet proof V4's still on the road.....
  23. My bad, but now I gotta ask... Why would anyone want to put an '87 clutch in an '84??
  24. Here's a place that might have some useful information that might answer some of the questions you have about setup and installation. It's a hodge..podge of videos. Just scroll down to find the subject that might help. http://www.mtcvoyager.com/videos/ Nice Job!! BTW....
