  1. So much for that burger and food poisoning... Dam I hate that... Sometime ya gotta question exactly what they are serving in those little food stands... Hygiene can't be all that good... Nice report BTW.... :-)
  2. I'm sure they'll let me keep it. What the 'H' are they going to do with it?? Like I've said... It can be fixed, but just not the way I'd want it to look when finished. Ya gotta remember, I'm more of a collector, and at my 'advanced age' not running up and down mountains chasing Mulies and Antelope any longer. In my hunting days that baby would be repaired and I wouldn't give a damn what it looked like. Just as long as it shot where I pointed it. Now it's gotta look really nice and will stay that way until the kids have to deal with them.... BTW I just picked up an Ithaca M37 20ga made in 1968. The same year I went to work for Ithaca. Had to have it....
  3. Yeah, it's got me befuddled too. Although some stocks with a lot of figure are weaker than those having straight grain running through the grip area. I'm picking it up Friday and once it's in the barn maybe I'll be able to tell a little more.....
  4. Found this while reminiscing this morning.... From better times. Ponch and Lil'bit, Cody 2009.
  5. Nothing like having a hired gun running this place... Thanks one more time Don....
  6. It looks like a take off on the 1%.... 99%=N.F.G. Personally I'd stay away unless you're into that sort thing??
  7. So I get this notice in my email box saying that someone posted to a thread I had previously posted to. So I click on the link and it takes me to the thread on the board, but there isn't an added post. Just mine and it's the last one. Here's a copy of the text and link. I'm confusted?? LisaCarpenter has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - My Semi-murdered out 2006 RSV - in the Picture Folder forum of VentureRider.Org. This thread is located at: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?88978-My-Semi-murdered-out-2006-RSV&goto=newpost Here is the message that has just been posted: *************** Nice pictures. *************** Anyone have an explaination???
  8. I met Ponch and Lil'bit in Cody. During the Chili cook off, while I was down at the last Cabin deep in conversation with Erv about guitars, one of the guys came up and said I'd better go check out my RSV up by cabin#1. I thought it might have gone down. So off I went and found the tank and seat completely removed, and Ponch running the wiring for my new Tach. I had it mounted, but didn't have time to wire it in. Thanks to Ponch I had rpm's on the way home.... Miss him....
  9. Time of the year might have a little to do with it. With Black Friday and Cyber Monday added to the shipping glut, things get mangled a lot during the holiday season...
  10. Never heard of them either....
  11. There was insurance of $600 bucks on the rifle, and the seller put down the value of the stock at $300. Received an email from him that they have gone ahead and approved the damage and sending him claim papers to fill out. So may get enough to pick up a nice piece of replacement wood??
  12. I did have a Pfaff sewing machine shipped to me via UPS and it came in with the brace cracked in half. It was one of those made in Germany that could stitch two Buicks together. Cruisers use them for sail repair etc... UPS paid for the whole thing....
  13. I'm sure it could be done but probably look like 'H' when through. I have used teak sawdust mixed with FG Resin to repair teak on boats... Makes it stronger than the original break, but I'm really into great looking wood for gun stocks.... That's why I collect Custom Mausers, and Limited Edition rifles... When I get through with this one it'll look like it belongs...
  14. And here we all thought that ice chest on the front tongue was there to keep the beer cold...
  15. There's too much missing when they are mated together, so the repair is out... The packing was great. In a soft padded gun case, in a Kimber oem rifle box, in a shipping carton. The outside carton end was repaired with UPS damage tape, but the inside box showed no damage what so ever... I did talk to one FEDEX driver and he said that the gun was on the top shelf of the delivery truck and fell on it's end, and it happens a lot. First time for me... Some of the sellers on Gun Broker use a cheap plastic case to ship their guns in. Now I know why.. PS: I wasn't too impressed with the stock anyway and planned on restocking it with some better figured wood. Maybe even re-barrel it??
  16. So I picked up a FN Mauser out of Colorado and the UPS shipping apes struck again....
  17. Wish they had taken it one step further and weighted the tongue to see the effect. Keep that ice chest on the tongue full... And all the tools up front...
  18. Never been quite that lucky with guns... Other things..sure... One thing I do know is they are all worth more than what I'd paid for them...
  19. It all depends on the condition and and documented back ground of the rifle. Seems like they are asking for $450-$600... Bayonets are rare. Here's a great place to figure out a value. http://www.gunbroker.com/All/BI.aspx?Keywords=1909+mauser I'm no expert, but I think you shoulda kept the Mauser, and paid cash for the Ruger. Stainless barrel 10/22's were recently on sale at Sportsmans Warehouse for $199. If your Training rifle was a DSM34 in mint condition it's in the books at $3000.00. $475 for an 'ugly'.. One of the things to remember about firearms. They appreciate in value once they are not produced any longer... And... generally they out perform gold....
  20. Yep... I own a Kimber Custom when they were in Oregon with a 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser Carl Gustaf '95 action. More of a utility type build, but cool. Finland and Switzerland used the same military rifle in 6.5 for a very long time. Just recently going to an AR16 type. Very well built actions.
  21. Mauser made military rifles from several different factory's in Germany for countries world wide. Spain was just one. The value depends on which factory produce the rifle and whether it was during war time and might have seen battle. The M98 is one of the great action designs and they..as well as the FN's are the most sought after. I'm watching a beautiful Argentine M98 Custom right now that might join the stable. Until recently the mauser action has been the action of choice for customizers, and probably the most copied. I have a couple of realy nice mauser actions made in Czechoslovakia. Brno's are considered a very high end rifle. That's all I know about Milsurps and I'm stickin' to it.... :-) Don't regret passing up something because you didn't know anything about it.... until later... I have a bushel basket full of stories like that...
  22. That was entertaining....
  23. You forgot Curses.... As in 'Curses Foiled Again' Hope everything gets patched up OK Jeff. Man created hernias, and God created the machine....
  24. I was raised on Homeopathy. Like cures like. I also had my first classic migraine around 10 or so. The first one knocked me on my butt, and I suffered with them for the next 10 years or so. Massive headaches and super sensitive to bright lights for a few days. Then in my early 20's they disappeared and I didn't have another until my mid 40's, and occasionally thereafter every couple of years or so. What I did is start to fight them. When getting the prisms I would tough it out and just keep going. The prisms would disappear fairly quickly and the headaches wern't nearly as bad.. They also became less frequent. One thing I did notice is just prior to having an episode I was mentally sharp as a tack. Quick thinking and all. Brilliant!! After the attack.... pretty slow and mentally confused for a few days until I settled down to my normal average baud rate... My 2¢
