2 Miles with black powder??? Puc, what were those guys using for powder?? I don't think it was them... Or maybe it was wishfull thinking on their part. Or... maybe they were shooting Barret 50's.. http://controversialtimes.com/military/10-longest-recorded-sniper-shots-in-history/

Need to know where the 230 gr @ 400 fps info is located?? This is getting good....:icon_lurker:

Can't agree with you, but willing to learn. I'll need some documented case history. A few internet sources to some info would be appreciated 'cause we all know everything on the net is true.....

The energy of a 240 grain.. or other weight... bullet has lost all of it's energy on the way up. The end result would be like someone dropping a small rock from a height. I've been hit by shotgun pellets while bird hunting and they just bounced off my straw hat... Not much difference between the velocity of a 45LC and a 12ga round. This will work only if the round is fired close to vertical. The problem arises when the gun is shot at an angle close to horizontal where the bullet will not be effected by gravity as much and will retain it's energy. Then someone gets hurt if they are close enough. A couple of miles away may just be pushing it a bit... This is probably what's happening around your area only much closer.

WOW!! This is an oldie but goody thread. So may old friends and members who have wandered off over the years. For me, it was a trip down memory lane....

Me too.... Elephants, moose, buffalo... Never miss. Humming Birds are safe. I find it difficult to shoot around big trees, but I have wounded a few twigs and branches... :whistling:

Have fun and don't kill too many trees... :-)

I have a lot of those WTF moments.....many years later... :-)

Almost makes you wonder... Huh?? I think the few days before Christmas are when the most carnage takes place and probably the reason it was handled so quickly. I bet the claims dept is swamped and doesn't have time to question claims in depth...??

The amp rating is how much the battery will deliver with a given drain on it. 260 is a pretty weak battery by todays standards. 330 is a lot better. Also I find that if you're looking around for the best buy to save a few bucks in the long run it's false economy. Another thing to consider is... buy 'Made in the USA'. There are a lot of cheap batteries on the market from Taiwan. They are cheaply constructed and don't last. The best way to judge a battery is pick it up... Heavy is good. More lead plates and larger surface to transfer ions/amps... As far as a car battery lasting longer has nothing to do with the quality. It's generally used daily, and recharged after starting the vehicle... it's only job. All other electrical draws are handled buy an alternator. Most are rated between at a 60-90amp output. Our rectifiers are designed to limit the output to 26amps, and I read somewhere it takes 45 minutes of riding to replace the amps used by the starter. It's easy to start adding electronics to over load the charging system output. Heated grips.. seats.. vests.. gloves.. lighting.. audio.. etc. I tested one of the Taiwans in my '83VR on a group ride. I found that the tape player ate amps like a horse eating oats, and caused the bike to pull more amps than the charger could provide, and after a day of riding the battery got to the point it would barely turn the motor over. Turned off the tape player and the battery recharged back to full. If it had been an AGM/330 it might not have been a problem, or at least would have lasted a lot longer. My 2¢

I'm not sure I follow... What's a 260??

One of the problems I had with the Odyssey was that the foot print didn't match the OEM. That's one of the reasons I finally went with the Deka. They match the battery model exactely.... On the battery going dead after a couple of days sitting with out using the bike. I found that if I turned the audio system off when sitting that didn't happen. On the charging issue. Some great info in this thread, but just to make it easy, check the charging voltage at the battery anodes before delving into seek mode. Remember it has to be above 2000rpm for the charge to kick in and should be around 14-14.4vdc. Anything more it's generally the rectifier. Anything less it's usually the stator. Just because you get a high volt reading doesn't mean that the batt is getting amps. I ran my '99RSV for almost three days with a Deka and no charge between Sacramento and Cody. Finally died across the street from a Southern Auto in Thermopolis Wy. 80 miles south of Cody. The fact that it died was bad karma. The fact that it died where it did was good Karma. There was absolutely nothing for the next 80 miles... including gas stations, but that's another story... :-)

Yep... Me too. Thought it might have had a hitch in it's get-along so rebooted. Same thing. I'm just using Chrome.

super brace
Condor replied to adventurer 08's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The bolts for the super are longer due to the thickness. 17x1.25 I think??.. I't been a while.. so don't take it as gospel.. Bob's may come with the longer bolts?? I've installed quite a few and have never used Loc-Tite, and can't recall anyone mentioning it in the past... -
That's my thinking too. Plus it was fitted to a two step taper military barrel. The blem repairs don't bother me that much. I see them in a lot of highly figured walnut, and if done properly can blend in. The thing that does scare me is the cracking repair in the grip area. The recoil of a 264 Win Mag might be more than it could handle....

Stock update. I got a call from the seller/shipper of the rifle and he sent a check from UPS to me this afternoon. Two weeks from delivery, and about a week and a half since the claim was filed. Gotta give UPS a thumbs up on this one.... Now I get to go shopping for another stock. USGunStock is about 30 miles north of me. Thinking about dropping in and poking around.... They have several stocks listed on eBay and they always seems to take the 'offer'... They also have one that's a gorgeous chunk of wood, but it came off a military Mauser with the double tapered barrel, and wouldn't look right with a single taper... And... they have $850 bucks on it. No way Jose'... I can't imagine who would use this grade of wood and not re-barrel it as well...?? Just in case anyone's interested, here's the eBay listing. MAUSER

super brace
Condor replied to adventurer 08's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
When I started the group buy I was ordering them in quantities of 30-40. As the years passed it took forever to get rid of 10. So I had a lot of bucks wrapped up in braces that just sat here, and the last couple were like pulling teeth. That's why I stopped. It just didn't make sense to carry them any longer. Here's one off a V-Max. Do some research on to see if fits.... It does look close... BRACE -
super brace
Condor replied to adventurer 08's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If memory serves me correctly...it's been a while... the price was $76US with Paypal, shipped via USPS Priority. Canada was about 10-12 bucks more. All inclusive. Braces can be had off eBay for around $25 to $30 bucks. You just have to be diligent in your search. Or save the search and get emailed when one appears... Good Luck. -
I'm single and always right.....But I've been wrong before...

Wow!! What did they do... Lay it between two chairs and then have a 400 pound gorilla sit on it?? Insufficient packing my a$$. I was contacted by a claims investigator person who gathered up all the info and pics and submitted it to their claims dept for OK. They honored the claim. Then they wanted to talk to the FFL. I'll check this AM to see if they did or not.... I have 3 guns to pick up out of the 10 day this morning.
