  1. So.... now all I need to know is will adding the crossover hose work on a 1200, and is it absolutely neccessary to link the YICS hoses??
  2. Good info Don. I wish someone had pics of a 1200 mod, and 1200/1300 double mod. I'm getting confused as to which one works or is neccessary. Too much infomation to compute. Are the rubber caps the same one's that are removed to sync the carbs?? -Jack
  3. I liked looks the 511 tacticals, but when I tried to look up my size I struck out. They have my waist size in the shorts, but not in the pants. Also liked the kevlar jeans, and they do make them in a fat boys size, but $99 bucks for a pair of jeans is hard to take. Gotta do something....
  4. Didn't someone write up something about the rear shock?? Pre-crash
  5. The cinch bolts were loosened...see text and pics. You can very easily strip threads off the aluminum caps when trying to screw the caps back into the steel housing of the fork. Under the pressure you need to exert on the cap in order to compress the Progressives to start the cap threads is NOT an easy maneuver. -Jack

    FAST idle

Mike Junes had the same problem at VWIII. Started on the way to Sue-ville. I can't remenber what all the 'wrenches' finally found to correct the problem, but maybe one of them will chime in here with words of wisdom...
  8. Leaning into a turn in front of the house the rear brakes locked up tighter than a frog's a$$. Slo-mo lay down incurred. Bike doubled in size while laying on it's side. Picked it back up, but it wasn't easy. Getting my rear end under the seat in order to use the legs to lift is great for someone who's normal highth, but when you're 6'6" it's a long way down, and straightening the legs back out isn't easy..... Did it, but was breethin' hard when it was over. Whew!!!
  9. EBC's seem to be the brand most use. I think?? the stock # for the later quad piston calipers is FA123, but double check....the memory fades...
  10. I think you're talking about the stretch of 49 between Hwy 89 and Nevada City. 57 miles of twisties. Haven't done it yet, but it's high on the list of 2do's...
  11. Yeah Vic.... $30 bucks for an R&R is a lot better than the cost of another tire...
  12. Avon is going to send a fresh replacement tire to a local dealer, and it should only run the cost of a tire R&R. I asked about buying one, and the head of warantee dept suggested that I wait??

  14. The person I talked to is Keith...head of warantee for Avon motorcycle tires..., and I wrote the pressures down during our discussion. He seemed to know more than most. If you'd like to talk to him his number is 1-800-624-7470. You'll get customer service. Ask for Keith.
  15. OK, here's the up date on the tire and some info passed on by Avon on the Venom X's. Avon will warantee the tire 100%. Something that I learned is that because of the agressiveness of the pattern on the Venoms, the tire pressure needs to be kept at a minimum of 40psi up to 43psi on the front tire, and a minimum of 45psi in the rear. They can't be treated like any other tire when it comes to tire pressures, and factory specs, which were writen for the Dunlop E-II, don't come into play. Unless this is done, while running at high speeds, the wall adhesives will over heat and pool toward the middle of the tire causing cupping over a period of time, and eventually throw a cap. Tire pressure on the Avon is critical. I know a lot of members have been raving about the performance of the Venoms, and rightly so, and because of that, many have installed them. Just a word to the wise. Check those pressures often.
  16. Hmmm, I've been using 000 steel wool for as long as I can remember. Seems to get things shiny again all by itself. When I run into heavy rust I'll bump it up to 0 SW, and then finish with the triple o. The rust coming back it generally cause by steel wool residue left on the chrome. Wash it off, blow dry it and either shoot it with a clear metal seal spray or put some carnuba wax on the area.
  17. This is a great cure for replacing all those high priced new or ebay used antenna's. Thanks!! http://www.ambientweather.com/mi18cban1.html

    Need help

Not sure how it's attached, but if it's the same way the black tank edging is attached on a 1stGen, there are little metal clips inside the slot and they'll come off with a little coaxing.
  19. I'll give Auto Zone a shot in the AM. If not I'll drop by a body shop...'r two. Thanks.
  20. OK, removed the logo from the fairing in order to paint, and now I need to find some black two sided tape to get them stuck back on again. I've checked with NAPA, Kragen Auto, Home Depot and Ace Hardware. No luck ... Anybody????
  21. We'll see how it goes after I talk with Avon on Monday. I'll keep ya'll posted.
  22. Thanks for the info Rick. I emailed Southwest Moto and receive a quick response with Avon's customer service number. Gave them a call and left a message. Avon returned my call while I was out taking care of honeydo's. Should have left my cell number instead of the office. It's good to know that this isn't the first time this has happened, and I really doubt that SouthWest stored the tire in any contaminates. It's too late to talk with Avon this week, so I'll give them a shout monday morning.
  23. it does....thanks.
  24. Used to start my son's XS850 all the time by jumpering it with the Suburban. He never had any money to by a better battery.
  25. No, nothing on the tire....hate Armoral anyway... The date on the tire is 2305, and the yet to be mounted rear is 4705. I think the 05 is the year, so they're not that old. Picked them up from Southwest Moto in Arizona, and had them mounted locally by a dealer. I wish Avon put serial numbers on them. I noticed the cracks up in Susanville while airing up the front. If the dealer had filled the tire to max when he mounted it it sure lost air quick. I'm keeping an eye on it, and also have a Ride-on Kit ordered. And.... I'll keep my high speed trunkin' down to a minimum if any at all. I may end up buying another tire for peace of mind.
