  1. Personally, what I'd do is rent a 10' U-Haul trailer, go down and yank the thing back home. Borrow a friends pick up truck if you don't have one. Having never seen it, it's the only thing that makes sense. a 14 hour ride gives it plenty of time to mess up your day big time on the way back...... Or check on the board and see if a few members in the area have a trailer and maybe a relay could be set up???
  2. I second that. The wire leak is right over the cross-over and it will smoke until it burns off. The clutch slave is in that area too, and if leaking will also cause the bike to smoke a bit.
  3. Check with Rick at http://www.buckeyeperformance.com/ I think he has heavy duty rebuilts for around $140....
  4. Toss in a can of Sea Foam with the next fill up. Can't hurt anything and if there is any crud in there it'll clean it out. Syncing carbs is not a big deal if you know someone near by that has a Carbtune II.
  5. Might be the boost sensor isn't functioning. Or.... synced your carbs lately??
  6. Could be a short in your ignition switch.. A few members have had to mess with theirs lately......
  7. I think the dull glow is ambiant light coming from the other dash lights.... Does the intensity change when you adjust the dimmer knob??
  8. I'm no electrical genious, and don't do demons, but I'd take a look at the starter solenoid being bad???
  9. Could also be one of the 'o' rings from the anti-dive unit???? Just a thought...
  10. Just a note. Ebay just had a set of Jardine's close at $350...sumpthing. Last week there was another set that closed close to that. MAC's are lookin' better all the time.....
  11. As long as it only whines in one particular positiion I wouldn't worry about it. Ride it until it gets worse,...... or somethin' falls off......
  12. I just bought an aftermarket. Took the old gasket with me, and sort of matched it up with one they had.
  13. Hmmmm.... i think i missed that part of the conversation... Still drove me nutzo............
  14. I'm starting to understand now. While riding with a pack of 2ndGens on the way to Fort Collins I was going nutz running at 70mph when the speed limit was 75.... I guess they actually thought they were doing 75??? I knew I was in trouble when that little old lady pushing a baby carriage, along with just about every one else, passed us out in the Nevada Badlands............
  15. welcome aboard Matt....
  16. i had to replace one side only. Bought it at a local non-afilliated shop. Looked lead/silver-ish....kinda like oakem..... Worked. If you're carefull removing the old mufflers you may not need to replace the gaskets....
  17. FOR ANY FUTURE FEEDBACK ON THIS THREAD IT"S BEEN CHANGED TO: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=12626
  18. Go ahead and make it out to me Dan. JACK CHALAIS. Thanks.
  19. Thanks for the input guys............ We now are back up to 9 on the list....for those of you that are counting.....
  20. Well it didn't take long, but was sorta expected. We're had our first and second list casualty. Calperin had to gracefully back out due to unexpected problems, and tiny84 decide to go with a set of Road Kings off Ebay. So............... if there is anyone else that would like to join the list, now's the time. We will need 10 to place an order. See below......
  21. So far everyone seems to like them....A LOT!! They are a slip on and you won't have to remove anything other than the old mufflers. You may have to do a little fudging in the flange area to get them lined up. DaveG had to take a little of his passenger steps to make some room on his '90VR, but others haven't mentioned that they had to?? Some longer bolts from the hardware store, and flang gaskets seem to be the norm....
  22. GENTLEMEN.... The list of 10 is completed, and I've waited the extra week to see if anyone else wanted to hop on the bandwagon. It's now time to start asking for money. For US members, I take Paypal payments (prefered) using the paypal@cast-aways.com email address, or you can send a check or money order to Cast-Aways, PO BOX 8, CARMICHAEL CA 95609-0008. For or Canadian members the options are Paypal or a Money Order in US funds. Sorry, no checks....my bank kills me on the conversion..... US=225.00, CA=235.00 No problem if you've changed your mind, but please let me know, so I can start beating the drum again to fill the list. As soon as we get the moneys I'll give MAC a call and start the ball rolling on their end...
  23. i was going to tell you that, but you figured it out all by your lonesome.... i used a couple of 10"x1/4" extensions.....
  24. At the risk of throwing more fuel on the discussion... and I agree with you Dick.... But I ran into this stuff, quite by accident, when I had an outboard motor to dress up a bit to resell. Tempo makes colors to match the major outboard manufacturers colors produced over the years. Pretty tough stuff. Has to be to put up with the constant exposure to sun, saltwater, and fuels. Granted the color choices aren't the greatest, but if you're willing to take something that's not quite what you were looking for, it'll do. The first time I used it I couldn't believe the results.... Looks like the original finish. I used it on the '93VR and it's respectable.... and it sure beats the cost of having a pro do it.... -jack
  25. Plan Z.... Reverse bleed the hell out of the clutch. Unless you've been there before I wouldn't mess with a slave replacement until I got it home. Bet the bleed will cure the problem. Congrats on the n2y scoot.
