  1. Enough's been said about repairing the computer module on this board, but i think there's one thing that's not being mentioned when the dash is out and exposed to the elements.... :-) Replace all the illumination bulbs with new ones, and save yourself the trouble of replacing a burnt out bulb later on down the road.. Why put a repaired dash that's 20+ years old back in without replacing all the bulbs which are pro'bly 20 years old as well? They're the same #158 bulbs used in auto dashes, and can be found at any local auto parts store. They run about $1.50 each and there's about 7 of them. Do it and save yourself some work.....
  2. Just keep the rear tire spinning very...very fast.....
  3. The boost sensor is located under the bracket that holds your coils. On your '83 the vacuum is pre-butterfly. Follow the vacuum line located between the #2 and #4 carbs (left front and right front). For your '86 the vacumm line comes off the bib at the base of the manifold for #2. Hope this helps...
  4. I hate gravel.......or dirt...or sand..... or 10-30 motor oil.......!!!
  5. Could be a difference. I have you by a hundred pounds Jimbob. So it's like two up all the time..... And I can take my hands off the bars at any time and they both track straight and true.
  6. I have two 83's and neather one has head shakes at any speed up to 105. I wonder if it's the size of the ballast sitting in the saddle that has something to do with it??? Running progressives with about 1.5" spacer preload. Max pressure in the forks and rear shock. Avon front with 50psi and Elete II on the rear with 40psi.
  7. I didn't have the patients to look thru their website to find prices, but I found something very similar on Ebay built out of rip-stop nylon. A full cover that you can stow away in next to nothing. I don't expect it to stand up to UV rays as good as my heavier models, but for o'nite touring it works great, and sheds water like a duck. Used it at Ft.Collins and didn't even think about where to stow it. It ran me about 20 bucks plus $14 bucks to ship. All black. Good looking. And if the winds howling, make sure you have it tied down.... i just did a search for covers on Ebay and it seems like the cover sellers are off for the summer. Maybe this winter they'll be back in force....
  8. Get an Odyssey......
  9. it's a start... just not sure where???...and neither does the seller.. i'm sure another member will know... maybe the radio filter???
  10. LOL.... Always wondered what an 'Ebay' bike would look like. Every piece of plastic on it from a different year. Kind of like a patchwork quilt. It would be unusual.....and nobody'd want to steal it...
  11. Tim. Sorry to see a good bike get toasted. I'm a little confused. The tank cover is gold royale yet the bike fairing looks to be black and the R&L dash look like a standard. Was the bike pieced together from several??? Or??
  12. Yeah, the 'pad' doesn't offer a lot of positions. I like to rest the back of the leg on the peg and extend the foot all the way forward once in a while, and it won't work with the angled leading edge of that pad style. Some pads do have a flat edge but they still dig into the leg. Round pegs are very versatile for positioning. I have a set of those 'cool' ISO pads, but find the good old round style works best. But..... to each his own.:)
  13. LOL... yeah, it's an old age thing....
  14. DANG!!!
  15. I gotta question. Are the 2ndGen and 1stGen finals the same, or does the 2nd have a few more teeth? The reason I'm asking is that if it is taller then putting a 2nd into a 1stGen might be something to think about. I always feel like shifting into 6th when running at highway speeds.
  16. good question. I think that if it did yamaha wouldn't have made them for the later models?? Being a water cooled motor might keep everything under control.
  17. Betcha money, marbles, or chalk you've dropped a cylinder. These V4's will run good on 3 cylinders. It just feels weak but will still cruise along at highway speeds. Change out the plugs and see if that doesn't help the situation.
  18. Just a question on the Ebay carbs. Did the engine run bad when the cover was off or on??? If it ran bad with the cover off, that's more like normal on these engines....
  19. Ditto on the heat pouring out the side covers. On the '83 there isn't any provision for a vent in the triangular opening, and I used the highway pegs a lot.... Since Ft Collins I found a nice set of side covers on Ebay from an '87 with the vents, and have since replaced the stock covers. The colors match the original '83 paint scheme, although I think?? that the covers are off a VXZ12 and not the '87 Royale. Big difference in the hot air flow and toasted ankles. This also brings to mind a poem I ran acrossed a few months ago. "Summer" a poem by Abigail Elizabeth McIntyre chit! It's Hot !
  20. Todd. Another way to check the actual temp of the engine is to go pick up one of those remote IR temp meters. The ones where you put the red laser dot on the object you want to measure and it gives you an LCD temp reading. I picked up one at Harbor Frieght for about 15 bucks. Does a nice job. It's also a great way to find a dead cylinder. Just point it at the exhaust tubes when you first fire the engine. The one or ones that are not firing are cool. You gotta get that scoot ready for the ride next month...
  21. This[/url] might be what Condor needs as he was having this problem up in Ft. Collins with his 83 Venture Royal. I'm not sure what the temp is that I'm running at. But i will say that the motor runs according to air temperature. If it's 105 degs out, it runs just under red zone and below the fan kicking on. If it's 65-75 degs out it runs about the middle of the green. Coming back from Ft Collins I stayed a needle width under the red all the way acrossed Nevada at 70-80mph, but it dropped down to just above half way when I got up into the cooler temps of the Sierras and even pulling those grades. So i donno. I guess as long as it doesn't blow up I'll stick with what I've got.... :-) I might add that I added water wetter to the reserve in Colorado. Whether it got into the radiator or not I don't know???:confused24:
  22. The tubing on the 1stGen engine guards is 1". Here are a couple of pics of the Kuryakyn pegs I put on mine. They're not any wider than those mounted on the horizontal tube, but further foreward giving more legroom for those of us who are horizontally challenged..... The long horns may place the peg farther out but I didn't feel it was neccessary.
  23. MANY THANKS TODD!!
  24. I use CorrosionX on my fishing reels all the time for corrosion prevention. Works great, but i don't think it'll do well as a 'crud buster'. SaltX is another great product for protecting metal from salt water corrosion.
  25. Just to let every one know, the MAC's were ordered and paid for this morning. Because they are building them, and not pulling from stock this time around, they will get back to me monday with a delivery date....
