Not this one, but the eclipse that went across Baja/Cabo San Lucas 25 or so years ago caused the wave action to stop and the ocean to look like a pond. Very weird...

Hmmm?? I wonder if a 2ndGen heel/toe would fit?? Or be McGivered to fit??

LOL!!!!!!!!! Now that's creative..... I was going to dust off my welding hood, but thought the better of it. It's one of those newer instant darkening models, and figured the 'H' with it. So I took a piece of note pad and punched a hole in it with a paper clip. Worked pretty well. With just a sliver of the sun showing it wasn't as dark as I expected...

Nope, but that's what happened... Don't believe me?..that's OK.. I had a couple of friends who drove 40,000 gal tanker trucks for refineries, and when they first went to unleaded they received tickets for being over weight, so had to cut back on the gallons carried due to the the weight of the H2O added to the mix. Carrying 40K put them over the weight limit due to the water weight. Shortly thereafter the tanks were redesigned to carry less volume. Not absolutely sure but I think they were cut back to 35,000 gals.

Take a pic of the bike during the eclipse of 2017 and post them here.... Don't forget to turn the lights on... It's going to be something that ain't gonna happen again in our lifetime. I'm sitting in a 75% southern zone so we'll see?? Same thing for @cowpuc and crew on the northern edge. It starts about 10am pst. I found THIS from NASA and the nerd in me finds it really intertaining... Maybe they should have named the new Venture the Eclipse and no V4 feathers would have been ruffled... :-)

I could see that except for one thing. Somewhere the GPS LCD output info needs to be interpreted to drive the needle of the analog face. That's above my pay grade...
-
That's why the catalist... And yep they did...

Actually the speedo pick-up on the RSV's and all the shirt tail cousins comes off the final. Not the front wheel like the 1stGens... However.... since this thing doesn't have a final?? The sensor needs to be somewhere. Digital or not....
-
The digital speedos on my RSV's jump in 5 mph increments. Besides being an LCD screen. And I hate that. That why I'm real partial to analog wrist watches, and if they're a smooth chronograph swing on the second.. that's even better. If that dial speedo on the V2 does the same thing you can scratch that one off my Like list. I don't see why they can't make a swing with 1 mph increments??? He11 they can do it for the tach. Why not for the speedo.?? OMVHO...

Interesting videos... So I've got a question. When they first came out with unleaded gas the added ingredient was water. I remember big tanker trucks being ticketed for being over weight because the water weighed more than gas... So with ethanol have they removed the water?? Or have they put in an catalyst additive to keep the water suspended in the gas and not seperate?? And... would that also effect the ethanol?? Just curious...

IMHO... So I went to look at the V2 yesterday and... I know I'm gonna catch a lot of flack on this..., but quite frankly I wasn't impressed. There were a few things that I did like, but not enough to go WOW!!! The likes.. Huge trunk space, analog speedo and tach, seating. That's it. The dislikes.. It's a rolling computer and how many of us have a computer over five years old that hasn't crashed at least once. Too many distractions going on in front of you. One fella hovering around the display bike like a mother hen in the show room while waiting for a demo ride, was more worried about syncing his phone up and making a call while riding the demo then in riding comfort or performance. I think the whole touch screen concept idea is a hazard. When all senses need to be on alert too many distractions and decisions are going on in front of you. When we need to be more worried about that car about to pull out of that driveway, or the car next to you pulling into your lane, or the potential left hand looey, we have this entertainment system that I'm surprised doesn't pull in Netflix taking eyes, ears, and brain away from what's most important. Staying alive!! If I won the lotto would I buy one??... probably not. I guess I'm just old school. I don't even like listening to the radio on a 1st or 2ndGen... Watch the scenery. Leave the computing to the desktop.

Another nice thing about the Indian cut away. You could actually touch it... So I guess the Yamaha is so hi-tech they had to keep it under glass with a laser beam alarm.. . I wonder if they also had an armed guard sit on it over night....?? They're having the V3/2 demo in Roseville tomorrow. I think I'll mention about going up to Auburn to look at the Indian Road Master while I'm there...

Having fun with the new Venture at the Sturgis Rally..

Puc, you have waaayyy more experience dealing with the heat and murphy. The only long distance riding has been to the Ft.Collins International in 100°+ temps. 105° for 10 hrs on the way back to the barn with the '83 and Venoms across Nevada, and 100°++ to Cody and back with the '99. They were the exception, but didn't have any problems. Oh yeah, and at the Venture West in Yreka in 2015 with the '07.. On the ride up to Happy Camp and back, I made it... the tires made it, but 7of9 had heat stroke and barfed in the parking lot of the motel. Coming out of the canyon my temp gauge registered 112°.., and my seat was so hot I had to sit back on the passenger seat. Very happy it was only a 160 mi round trip.. My general rule of thumb is I only ride when the temp is between 40° - 85° I hate Nevada and I-80 in the summer. Boring and hot... .. And this summer around here it hasn't been the greatest. Usually we get 7-8 days of plus 100. This year we pushed it up to around 20?? and I can't remember a day when it's been below 90... You know the old mexican expression.. I'm getting too old for this chit.... :-) -

Just got thru reading down this thread... again.... and noticed a few things that I hadn't before. Kinda like watching Battle Ship for the 4th time.. Always something new I hadn't seen before.. :-) Anywho... I noticed your demo bike was already registered in California. Wonder if it will be the same one they'll use for demo's at Roseville Yamaha next weekend?? And I gotta ask. Have you tried E3's on tweek's?? And if you have what kind on milage did you get?? I have E3's on all my RSV's, but the only one that has a few miles on them is the '99. To Cody and back towing a trailer plus day trips.. About 4000 miles total and they still look like they're new. I'm wondering if buying the el cheapo 404's, Kenda's, etc. for $80 bucks it's a false economy. By the time you buy 4 of them in one year you've spent more on them... plus the spoonin'... then you woulda for E3's ... I even got some serious milage on my '83VR with Avon Venoms. When I sold the bike they still had 50% wear left and probably 12,000 on them. And yep a carved a lot of canyons with 'm.... Still a great thread and when I read it again I'm sure I'll find something else. BTW.. That one piece side cover on the V2... I wonder how much that gasket is gonna cost?? :-) -
That's funny. I just got off the phone with my daughter who works for ACE in the distribution plant to order some A/C covers for those severe winters we get out here in California, and was also looking for some flex spray or tape to patch a hole punched in my new storage tent. Couldn't find the tape listed but I'm calling her back to add to the order... THANKS!! I forgot to ask her what the price was for the tape, but the covers were the same retail and cost me $3.68 ea. Talk about a profit!!

See.... Told ya so....

I get confused really easy lately. but doesn't the factory tool kit sit in the left saddle bag????
-
Might I suggest solar panels to keep the batts charged.... Also the Honda EU3000 generator will work for A/C's and Micro's....

Sorry for not being clear Puc. I knew it was a cut away. Seen a few of them over the years. What I'm trying to get at is... it doesn't look like... in a non-cutaway... there's any access to the alternator. Almost looks like the engine case would have to be split to service or repair it?? IMHO :-) Gimme a link to your test ride vids. I missed 'm...

Yes..sigh...we all knew that.... :-)

You're a really old far... I mean member.. #51 After the crash of '06 it was generally a helter skelter re-registration for the next couple of days when Don got it up and running agin... If memory serves me I think I was somewhere in the 300's pre-crash. Now #224 So It just depended on how quick you could hit the button... Dan, you're reeally fast...
